So the time has come to unveil my new bundle of joy. Originally I was trying to buy was92v's F4i, but the bank was iffy that I was claiming that I was in the middle of a $4 raise and were dragging their feet, so I said fcuk them and moved on. Unfortunatly I has a slightly (read extremely) lower budget without the bank loan. So I started looking for something mechanically sound for about $1500.... FZRs, older ZXs, but all of them were beat up and had a bagillion miles. Then one day I was trolling 675.com and found a picture for a bike that peaked my interest, so I did some digging and liked what I saw on youtube. So without further audu.... my....

1984 Honda VF500F.... (sorry she is wet, I was riding out in the shit weather we've been having.)

And YES, the bike really does 3,506 miles. The bike sat in a warehouse for 18 years until the second owner bought it and restored the thing. He repainted it a "2005 zx6r" like metallic titanium. A slight paint chip on the bottom fairing and crack on the side fairing (can be seen in the engine photo), but other than that the plastics are perfect. The clutch is buttery smooth, and the transmission is good. Only thing that will need adjusted is the carbs. I think the thing is running a little lean. When the choke is fully disengaged it wants to putter and die, without a little coaxing from the throttle. But shit, for a bike that is older than me it is in fantastic condition. The pictures don't do this bike any justice. :rockwoot:

Well yea. I'm going to run some seafoam just incase he didn't clean them as well as he said he did. If that doesn't work, i'm going to see if the idle is set too low. Then I will mess with them....

There's nothing worse than buying a bike with a bank loan, wrecking it and having to make payments for a few more years on nothing. You're better off for paying cash.

Congrats! It looks very nice and clean as you say, but better check out the issue before anything else happens.

I will. I'm going to be gone on business for the next 2 weeks, and its going to kill me to not be able to wrench on it. I was thinking about doing a bench sync, just incase he didn't get that far. But for sure I'm going to set my mixture screws correctly, and test from there.

Those are excellent bikes. Good find, though the original Red/white/Blue paint jobs were awesome. You might check the carb / intake clamps to make sure they are snug, but it sounds like the pilot jets may still be clogged. Enjoy!

The original paint jobs were nice. I bid on one on ebay with the original paint. It got too out of hand. But I will be less worried about messing up the stock paint now. I am really excited, but not as excited as I would have been with the F4i. :dthumb:

It's in better shape than my 86. But then again, mine has about 70,000KMs.

Oh and the idle may be set low. Mine has been known to vibrate the idle adjuster when idling. Causing the idle to drop and even more vibrations. It's a vicious cycle:lol:

BUT you have that awsome stock paint job. Is your windshield taller than the 84??? And what aftermarket exhaust do you have? I hear the exhausts are pretty rare to find.

I think they're about the same height. The picture I posted seems a little deceiving.

Right now it has an old Vance & Hines on it that's held together loosely with old rivets and screws:lol:

Sounds pretty wicked though! The suspension is a little Saggy on it now but I still have fun on it once in a while. I actually get it to spin and step out to the side a little sometimes. It's fun as Hell. It's main purpose was to teach my GF to ride and last her a year or two while she builds skill and confidence. So far it's done that job perfectly. She's only dropped it once but you can tell from it's scars that it's no stranger to the pavement.

Have you done any of the top end oiling modifications? The boys over at VFRworld mentioned that there have been instances of oil starvation issues when the bike is at idle, ending in burned cams. Or have you not seen any problems with it yet?

AFAIK that only affected the early 750s(V45s).

From what I've read the 500s and later 750/1000s were not effected like Karl said. Myself I have not done anything to it or had any problems with it.

V-four.... this is no EX500. I can't wait to get back into town off of this damn work assignment and ride. I only got to ride her for 12 miles before leaving for four weeks. Its killing me, especially on a day like today.

I found a newer GS500 in better condition. I like the bike and would like to work it back into shape but I just dont have the time or determination for it right now. I would rather just drop a couple hundred bucks and get my GF a better bike. She was making a lot of improvements with her riding last year and I think the Bike's "Imperfections" were holding her back.

I must say though...I still cant believe how well and strong the motor runs after 24 years and about 50,000 Miles.

I understand. I love the thing, but I can tell I am going to want something hotter in a year or so. I am not a small guy. :lol:

Or I might just keep it as a backroad hitter, and buy a track bike next. Who knows....
