is it just me or do yo ufind it tacky if someone plugs in their cellphone in a place of business or a hospital or something.

had a pt get all upset before when I wouldnt let her charge her phone, its actual dept policy that theyre not allowed to because god knows one of these knuckleheads will electrocute themselves and will then own the hospital.

I still see them doing it with the oultets in the waiting room, couple of the nurses I asked also thought its kinda tacky.

They do it at the bar all the time but that's all these fuckers do is text and yakk on the phone all night so it keeps them there longer.

At least when they wind up in the hospital after leaving my bar they have a full charge...

Shoulda told the idiots up here about that. this one was knockin shit over tryin to get to an outlet, I had to break it to her that shes not that important that she needs to take a phone call at 3am. Plus she was texting away in the waiting room and had to tell her to shut it off and put it away when I went in the room to see her.

I preferred it when cells weren't permitted in places like hospitals. It made it rather clear cut.

And yes, stealing someone else's current is tacky.

My phone can go an entire week without a charge. Of course my usage is very very low. And Tom, HTF are people going to electrocute themselves charging a phone? You'd have to be a complete fucking moron..... oh wait you are talking about the general population...? I see your point. :lol

We still have signs prohibiting cell phone use, but apparently none of them can read :td: I cant count how many I have had to tell them to shut their phone off more than once. If youre there for a true emergency we will give some leeway but when youre there becasue your back hurts for 6 months and dont wanna go to work tomorrow, too fucking bad.

And this was better this skell almost knocked over a slit lamp which is not something cheap to replace.

The way I see it is that every doctor, nurse, assistant, and janitor in the hospital has a phone and I have had them take numerous calls while in the middle of treating me or my kids. I'm not turning my phone off for someone who won't do the same for me.

Depends on the place I guess.
In a hospital, yeah, unless they are staying there a long time with a patient or something.
But who really carries their charger around with them anyway?

No one should be taking a call in the middle of dealing with a 'client' either. It's unprofessional and rude.

I see it in airports all the time. I've been known to plug in my laptop while there to get a little juice. Are they really going to miss the one cent of electricity I'm using after I've dropped 400 bux on a ticket?

Ya. I do it in airports (if I have to).

I don't think you meant at work but, I almost exclusively charge my phone at work. Work pays for it, I'm on call all the time, so why should I spend my own money on the electricity to be on call for their business?

I've done at the airport, same with the laptop but no where else. I have a huge pet peeve with douchebags that think they are so important they can't NOT answer their phone, or talk in the car with others around or at the check-out line in stores...etc.

RUDE! get over yourself you are a nobody same as me...

Cass

Yeah.. I've done it at airports.... but hospitals/restaurants/etc..... eeeeeeh not so much. I can *almost* see it at a coffee shop, but if you're going to be there that long, you're almost taking advantage. Especially if you're drinking the 1.65 free refills coffee, ALL DAY.

If I need a charge, and there's an outlet within reach of wherever I'm sitting, I'll charge up the phone. I won't go out of the way to do it, though.

Stealing electricity? Really? I mean, I guess I understand the logic, but should I also wear a parka so none of my heat escapes and uses up their air conditioning?

Hella weak. You could leave your stereo on all day and it would only increase your power bill one cent.

And worrying about somone electrocuting themself? WTF is that all about? If that was such a big concern, then airports wouldn't allow it either.

Not sure why it would be a big deal at airports sine they have those row seats with outlets between them.

Your average airport goer isn't someone who uses ambulance rides to get from place to place either. You can do the math on that on which will be more likely to sue for something hoping to win the lottery.

I don't see why its tacky. I don't carry a charger most times so I don't do it. I did charge my phone when I was in the hispital for over a week while my brother was fighting for his life.

Yes, absolutely... but while you're in an ER exam room? "I realize I'm in the EMERGENCY room... but my current emergency isn't my physical health, but rather the health of my cell phone battery" I'm not going to go out of my way to out people for it, but it is a little ... off.

I can see it in an emergency room as well. I couldn't breath and had to wait 8 hours before. If I had the phone I have now I could have kept myself busy with the internet or something. Plus if you are in rough shape some people that care about you could be asking questions. Once you get taken in then thats a different story.

While I was in the waiting room I used my phone to call my mom to let her know I was in the ER.

Exactly.. IN the exam room..

Anyone who reads any of Tommy's w*rk adventure threads knows that his patients aren't the smartest creatures. That's what this thread stemmed from... not from normal rational people making use of amenities whenever possible. I'm sorry if my previous statements indicated such... I did digress a little... but geez people... it's ok. Really :)

I skipped over the exam room when reading your post. But at the same time once they are done and you are waiting for the doctor to come in I don't really see the issue. I have waited a couple of hours in some of those cases before.

And I have read many of Tommy's threads. I have also seen people charge their cell phones in the hospital while in there with my brother, and not one of them would be Tommy's normal patients.

I wouldnt touch anything while in there and make sure ya got good aim

To add to what flexin was saying, I think its differnet on the floors or if youre in a bed. Some of the new ER's have internet at the bedside so you can get on line to do stuff or kill time as is the case once your admitted and up on the floors, because in a lot of cases youre just killing time while adimtted anyway.

I do, however, think people whine too much.

I find it tacky in most situations however at my current job I do simply because I work nights and use it to listen to Pandora all night. It is a very laid back work environment and I only do it at lunch to boost it enough to last the rest of my shift then it goes back in the car. I think it all depends on the situation. It does bug me that a couple of the day shift guys have chargers in certain outlets that stay there night and day so it is 'convenient' for them which I find extremely tacky, kinda says 'this is my personal space and not work'.

So it went to another level the other day, while working I went to the deli down the street go grab some food and whil eon line some lady comes in and asks if she can charge her phone in the store and offered to buy something. The guy behind the counter told her to GTF out of the store, made me LOL while in there.

people who work somewhere using a charger is one thing but if a customer or client comes in and just randomly plugs in is prety tacky IMO
