Anyone on here ever run a marathon?

I did once when I had to go #2 really bad.

What type of marathon are you talking about? All running? Running with biking? Running, biking, and egg tossing?

If you combine all the running I have done over the course of my life it would be a solid maybe.

I've done two-half marathons and going to do probably three more this year, does that count?

No, you half ass'er. LOL

I would love to do some kind of "urban" bike marathon. Some weird routes through town and I'm not talking about those thin tired bikes.

I did a Gladiator 10K. It was lots of fun. Climbing into a hay wagon and back out, under netting, up a steep hill that was 1 mile long, through some piping, tires, over hurdles (at mile 5, ugh). I hope they do it again this year!

NO. I don't like running like I did back in the day. I still enjoy hill sprints but thats it. The 5 miles or so we do in fire school kills me. It doesn't help that he won't let us bring music.

I don't when I'm at school and I hate it. Music makes it much more enjoyable for me.

Been known to bleed a little, and good nipples are nothing to put at risk.

I'm contemplating one in Sept. The Air Force Marathon (no that doesn't mean it's done in office chairs) but I'll probably stick to the half... I'm really starting to get into Triathlons.

2 miles and I'm spent. Fuck that marathon bullshit. If I need to go 26.2 miles I'm taking the bike.

I have never done one and don't plan to. My sister in law used to do them, but she is miserable during training, miserable during the run, happy for about 2.5 seconds when she finishes, then she is miserable again from the horrific pain. I am learning from her experience that it's not worth it.

She also did a 50 mile run once and that was the last of the big runs she said she'll ever do. Nothing more than a 10K now.

longer, it was the special editions, I barely made it through, I really had to push it that last hour.

I haven't had issues with my nipples yet but I use body glide. ;) I'll keep your offer in mind though.

I've run a few 10k's and that is about it for me...even that has been a while.

I just never got that "natural high" that people claim to get.

I really didn't enjoy the 10k's...just did it to show I could.

I never really cared about running more than 2 - 3 miles when working out. I figure...if I haven't caught whomever I'm chasing by 2 miles or so...feck it..let em' go...and if I haven't gotten away from whomever is chasing me by 2 or 3 miles...feck it I'll just consider myself caught or we're just gonna have to scrap right then and there...last man standing wins.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I've decided to run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon this year.

Going to be a long, tough hall, but right now, I need something bigger in my life; some goal to work toward.

Original plan was 2012 but I think I'm ready (mentally) now to tackle this challenge.

What's the date of it this year? I could run a half - but not a full...

PS. and by "run" I mean "survive" -- just so there's no misconceptions.. .:)

Awesome, good luck

I may attempt the back to the future marathon, even though it's short, the mental aspect is much more grueling. The last 1/3 of it is excruciating from what I am told.

Technically, I kinda did.
They had a combo, 5K/10K/half/full marathon here.
I ran the 5K, and then waited for them to come around again... and again... and again (4 laps) and then I ran across the finish line with a couple of my buddies to help motivate them to finish it out.

Does that count?

Date is 10/10/10 which is what swayed my decision.

I'm weird about numbers and didn't want to run it in an odd year (I know :screwy:) hence the 2012 goal.

But I think I'm ready. And mentally, I actually believe I need it.

Thanks for the well wishes. Might do a blog so I'll keep ya'll updated.

There are a lot of people where I work that run. THREE co-workers who are long distance runners have all broken their feet in the last 2 years. The last guy broke his near the halfway mark in a marathon and kept going. :tremble:

I did 14 miles this week, just not all at one time!!

Same way I got through 200 level Spanish class in college, got an A, and can't make a full sentence.
