Damn, that sucks! It would only take me about 1 1/2 hours to get there. Can't believe they still aren't letting you guys have a drink. We got to drink on the flight home. And really bites that you're stuck on post the whole time. But, at least you're back in the states.

Na, Navy.
If I was airforce, we would have been home 4 months ago!
Troof! My wife's a couple months into a 6-month deployment right now. She's AF too. We got the occassional 6-month ones, but it's still mostly four. You guys get fucked.

I didn't know your wife was AF... cool.
Yeah, the Army has realized now that over a year deployments are hard on people/family/jobs/etc.
They are now trying to keep it to 9 months boots on ground, and no longer than 12 months total deployment including mob and demob.
Their theory is that people cannot truly learn and succeed at their job/task with 6 month deployments, so 9 months is a good time for keeping families happy, and getting the most efficient work out of the soldiers.
Now if the Army would actually use it's troops in the jobs that they have been trained for, it wouldn't be an issue. But me as a mechanic, I have not actually touched a vehicle for anything more than transportation and a quick trouble shooting in over 3 years...
Guessing you AF guys actually do your line of work, where as besides infantry, it seems all the Army jobs are being turned over to contractors.
I'm tellin ya, the thought of switching to AF has crossed my mind, now even more since I have my 6's already.
I can see their logic behind the 9-month tours. There would be better continuity...in theory. Shit, our tours to Korea are for 12 months and there still isn't much continuity. Everybody is either "short"-minded or TDY-minded. We have a good amount of jobs going to civilians too.

Fly back into the great state of North Dakota tomorrow!!!! :rockwoot:
Then it's 9 days or drinking, fucking, playing with the dog, riding and spending some time with the family before heading back to work.
Luckily, my leave carries me through the end of the month, so I will be pulling 2 paychecks for a week!
