"The most alarming finding was a near-doubling in odds of ADHD diagnoses among kids with higher-than-average levels of the most common of the six metabolites detected. Kids with high levels of dimethyl thiophosphate were 93 percent more likely to have the disorder than children with with undetectable levels of the marker. "

Pretty significant stats there. I always figured ADHD meant that you didn't exercise your kid enough.

Yeah, 93% isn't a "maybe" thing. This is pretty significant. I don't think anyone can pretend it's not real anymore. Pesticides are some deadly neurotoxins.
Ever notice all of the kids with 8 limbs and shit all seem to come from India?
Remember the world's biggest pesticide gas leak was in Bhopal [Union Carbide]?
Serious shit. Pesticides are bad, M'kay?

But what's the alternative that will still fill food requirements?

Organic.
Fine for a backyard garden....but would it work on a worldwide scale?

It has for the last few million years.
Only recently have we switched to chemically altering our food and the soil it grows in.

How recently, and why?
Maybe I should go to Google and do some reading.
My understanding was always that Organic isn't as foolproof as Pesticides, and that can lead to famines and such.

Actually, genetically engineering foods that are resistant to pests is a way to prevent having to spray deadly fucking shit on your fucking food...but idiots that fear science, and don't fucking realize that we have been effectively "bio-engineering" food for centuries anyway (only doing it through hybridization, and selective breeding, "hit-or-miss"), freak out at the thought of more carefully, and directly manipulating the genetics of food, and they call it "frankenfood", and march, and protest against it.
Pesticides are designed as neurotoxins. At least genetically engineered food is designed as FOOD.
Gee, which do I prefer to ingest?

Honestly, I'm not sure of the exact timeframe but I'd say the last 50 - 70 years.
Why? Money.
Farmers were convinced that raping the land and covering the crops in chemicals would yield more/bigger/better crops which yield more money.
It is the whole "corn" debate all over again.

Like genetically engineering the soybeans to resist Round-up?
There is a difference between cross-pollinating two types of wheat and genetically engineered food.

Buying organic is fine, if you want to pay twice the price.
Even if you go to a farmers market, who's to say they didn't use pesticides?

One produces more exacting results, and one is kind of hit-or-miss.
I suggest you watch the episode of "Penn and Teller's Bullshit" on genetic engineered foods.

Cliff's Notes:
Episode 1.
Trust the FDA, if the government allows it, it can't be bad.
Episode 2.
Organic foods is a scam. There are no noticeable benefits. All Whole Foods shoppers are hippies that have bought into the lie.

I know the first half dealt with diet fads but that was mostly common sense.
Part three of episode 1 was what I was referring to.

My folks don't put pesticides or anything on their crops and they seem to have as good a crop as anyone in the country. Take care of your land, rotate crops, summerfallow and the land will take care of itself.
I have been trying to eat more organic being pregnant. Our freezer is full of organic beef and bison, although pork and chicken is bought at the store. I also prefer veggies grown in mom and dads garden. I figure if I can minimize my exposure then I am doing ok. No use taking unnecessary risks.

Ask Penn & Teller.
Roundup has worked well for the last 30 years. The problem is that evolution is real: there are weeds that are now resistant to the roundup pesticide. Monsanto is also an extremely evil, evil company:

They don't.
Their "edge" is that they use words like bullshit and fuck. Also Penn likes to yell and be insulting.
Epsiode 2 has some comedic value for their making fun of hippies but I'd hardly use either video as a reference in any rational debate.

Hmm. I suppose The Amazing Randy is just a magician too.
C'mon guys. Don't you get it? Magicians deceive people for a living.
People like Penn and Teller, and the Amazing Randy debunk bullshit artists.
They know what a ruse looks like (they design them for a living), and as such are REALLY FUCKING GOOD at shining a big, bright light on the man behind the curtain.
What's perhaps MOST "edgy" about Penn and Teller is that they ALWAYS used to show how the trick was done AFTER they "deceived" you...so other magicians tend to hate them. That's how they got into the line of work I'd like to call "Bullshit Busters".
Oh, yeah...Penn does say "fuck". Bummer if that bothers you  (first clue this might be an issue for some perhaps lies in the name of the series; "Bullshit").
In case it's any consolation, Teller's schtick is to remain entirely mute (Penn models his manner of presentation to resemble a carnival barker).

Ask Penn & Teller.
What Penn and Teller essentially convey is that if you live in a rich nation, with an abundance of food, then it's fine to buy organic...but for groups like greenpeace to impose their views about natural farming on others when millions are starving is just elitist luxury hippie-speak bullshit.
You and I can probably afford to buy our stuff at whole foods (I don't), but that's because we live in a rich nation. For someone starving halfway across the globe, a pest resistant, or drought resistant engineered strain of corn just might save the lives of many people.
As someone who lives in a more civilized part of the world where we have an abundance of food, of course you and I are free to make these finicky choices about how we want our food grown, and if you are concerned about agrotoxins, then by all means; buy "organic" [good luck determining exactly what that means, though]...but remember that many really need not consider just how they want their food grown...only if there is any to eat.

So ADHD is fine as long as it isn't in a rich country?
