I just scored an 09 GSXR1k rear shock but I have a feeling it will be too short and undersprung so I'd like to get a jump on gettting the "proper" shock for my setup and a ZX14 rear shock would do nicely.

Anyone have one?

Thought it was a ZX10 shock that fit proper, or are they the same?

Over at SVrider they have a whole section with the shock swap info for the sv's.
NMight have to search for it but its there.

Got a buddy that just totalled an 06 zx10. If you want, I can check on it. Have you done your front springs yet?

I think they both fit fine. Different spring rates is all

ZX10 doesn't have high enough spring rate for my fat ass and riding 2 up - the 14 is a better fit for me with my weight.

All years of the 14R fit the SV

There are no 14R shocks available on SVR I checked :(

Don't know where you could look. Maybe a drag forum? I'm sure they don't swap shocks out on those bikes as often as we do.

I think I grabbed one from e-bay - will find out in a bit.

Here's another guy who's done it (weighs about the same as I do and uses his SV for basically the same thing I do). mg66 on SVR:

You never said what you're gonna do with the front. New springs, emulators?

Sonic Springs and some heavier oil. I'll probably do emulators over the winter.

25,000 on her now and the original SV stuff is starting to wear out anyhow.

You will love them. Yesterday was the first day I got to really ride mine since the new suspension (to me). It was great. All kind of confidence in the curves. It still needs some fine tuning, but it is a major difference over stock. One thing I have to get used to is the engine braking on the SV

I have to get used to NOT having as much (just did the TPS mod and installed a aTRE and it made a world of difference).

Also did this today:

Oh well. Snagged one off eBay for 150. More than I wanted to spend but it should be worth it.

Congrats

don't congratulate me until I've shoehorned that sucker into the SV

For what it's worth, I now have a brand new shock from a GSXR1000 that I'll toss in there quick to see if it's too short like I think and if it is I'll end up selling it since it's about 10mm shorter than the stock SV shock.

I would skip the gix shock. Just put the 14 in there and be done with it. Does the 14 have the 90 deg or 45 deg resevoir?

Took about 20 minutes to install. Damn what a difference!
