View Full Version : Is that normal?

For the last week i have been running my bike pretty damn hard and a lot further then before.
*No idea how many miles*
But i've noticed a few things that i didnt really pay attention to before.
Like for one.
Going around turns(like turning onto a street) If i kinda get on it the rearend will start to slide out from under me(almost laid it down in grove city)
this is really ANY time i get on it in turns~ Normal or just the POS rear tire?
(before i just thought it was from something on the road)
also once the tire gets sorta warm it loses nearly ALL traction, especially on the edges. Exp. when the tire is cold i can almost flip the bike backwards, but once its warm and try to do it it just sits and spins the tire
Cheng-shin tire BTW :wtfru:

Crap tires.
Also what is your body position. Are you leaning into the turn like you should, or is your chest straight up and down like a dirt biker.

tires m8. if they're getting less traction when they're warm then they're beat.
If i read it right this is happening when you are turning at a 90* angle like from street to street?

Body posi. Is leaning into the turn with the bike, but when it starts to go i jerk it back.
And its most any turn just a little worse street-street..
Damn i was hoping i wouldnt need a new tire. Oh well its still on craigslist

What bike is it? Could be the suspension in a different part of the travel.
Tires usually don't spin up or at least it is pretty hard to do unitentionally.

Its the ninja 250but like i said, its really bad when the tire is warm.

even worn rubber is still gonna be rubber, i really dont see how you could have missed your tire being THAT worn down, and i especially doubt the edge of your tire is worn that bad. Im thinking your just a little fruity and god is trying to scare you straight.

How's your rear shock setup?
If it's too soft or too firm your rear tire is gonna bounce or otherwise do wonky things.

i really fear that we are overdiagnosing a very, very, very simple problem here people.
We're talking about low speed turns on city streets not 60* lean angles at the track.

Right: bumpy-assed city streets. Hence my suspension question. :)

i think if he was getting wheelspit or slippage issues because of bumps he'd be smart enough to figure that out on his own. but eh
Is it possible that the rear tire is cocked to the side? I had the same feeling a while back on my ninja 500, turned out I adjusted the chain, and cocked the wheel to the side. The bike felt like it was on ice while I was going straight. A while later I had a very similar issue when I dropped the bike and the forks twisted in the triple trees.

what do you mean "cocked to the side"? like the tire isnt set on the wheel or the axle is cock-eyed? that sounds like a very dangerous situation.

Like the rear tire is not aligned straight. When I first started riding nobody really showed me how to adjust my chain length on my own, so after some reading I tackled the job myself, but I skipped the part where it said to do both sides of the swingarm to keep the wheel straight. After adjusting it a few times the wheel was so crooked in the swingarm that it cause major handling problems.
As for the front wheel, the ex500 ninja has a tendancy when dropped to twist the front forks in the triple trees, causes the rider to want to fight with the bike to keep it going straight

I agree with derf. Check for mechanical wrong.
The problem with the 250 suspension though is that I don't think it has the adjustability.
Yeh chech the cheap stuff first

If this is that black bike you posted pictures of, the tires on that bike are crap. And they're probably 10-15 years old. Get rid of them.
I also wouldn't doubt that whoever spray painted that bike didn't mask off the tires beforehand

this is where i was going. dont think the suspension needs touched, ur liable to make it worse.

If tires are that old than you likely found the problem.

It's a 250, clearly it is just too powerful and any overuse of the throttle will simply break the rear loose regardless of tire or traction. :lol

suspension and MT-75 tires helped my 250 IMMENSELY!

10-15 years old? No. 15 year old design on the tires? YES.
The tire selection for the 2fiddys are ridonkulous. Go buy the MT-75s like Hokie said. Or if you are trying to sell it, buy another one of those cheap ass Dunlops and slap it on there.
No Worries

New Pirelli's are a good idea, but instead of MT-75's try their Sport Demons. It will feel like a new sport bike.

The rear tire is a POS Cheng-shin.. It was supposedly new when i bought the bike.
its not really even worn compared the the outer edges.
the front tire is probably 17 years old..... but the front is not the problem it holds...
Was going to do like all the other 2-fiddy riders and get Pirelli sport demons or W/E they are.(scooter tires)
or just replace the whole rear end
GSXR600 shock+EX500 wheel/swingarm so i could run a pilot street power 150/60-18....
But i'm selling it and buying:
1.Interceptor
2.GPZ
3.Seca II Turbo
4.GSX
BTW homeslice, The plastics/tank where not even painted on the bike.
Though the idiot i got it from painted the wheel with the tire on(thats actually a red wheel)

How far up does the overspray go? Couldn't that be the problem?

could have been, bu i dont think spray paint will stay on a tire for nearly 2000miles :?:
Could be though i think when i got the bike i kinda scrubbed everything down since oil, road gunk and shit was all over the whole bike..
Could be though

Change BOTH of your tires, even to the Dunlop OEM. They will be far better than a 17 year old front and a spray painted POS rear.
And make sure the rear is straight when you put it back on or you will have problems like derf mentioned.

Word, just craigslist or ebay for stock 250 tires. Tons of people will be selling them for like $20 I bet.

My old SecaII had small tires similar to Ninja 250s. I got some Bridgestones for them and those things hooked up damn well. I took it to the twisties a bunch and never had a problem with sliding.

In order...
1) tire condition
2) tire pressure
3) suspension
4) body position
