So I have finally settled on this summers project. Last summer I restored a 65' T-Bird which taught me a lot about cars so this summer I have decided to do something I have been thinking about for a few years. I am going to build a car. I found renderings of a car someone did in 3DS max that I want to build with some alterations however I don't have the 3D CAD skills to draft the body work to cut out on the CNC Mill at my friends shop. Anyone have any thoughts?

Damn. Thats wild. What are you going to use for the "glass" What are you making the body out of and what are you going to use as your frame and drivetrain?

BTW I can't use CAD, I'm just interested in the project.

I use to use max all the time, but got burned out. I can see if any of my old papyrus buddies.

Just ordered my engine earlier today, Dodge 488 V-10 Iron Viper Big Block Crate Engine with 390 horsepower and 500 ft-lbs of torque as well as a manual mid engine placement transmission. As far as body work goes I'm going to cut out a 'template' or whatever you want to call it on the CNC machine at my friends shop and he is going to hand lay it with carbon fiber. Another friend of mine does custom shaped fish tanks and says he should be able to do the canopy out of lexan as long as I can get a mold for him made out of wood. I am designing everything else from scratch, the chassis will be a hybrid monocoque/space frame made up of a mixture of about 50% straight aluminum 30% chromolly and 20% carbon fiber. Most of my suspension is from a couple of wrecked Porsche 911s at the local salvage yard. I'm getting creative with the interior and playing around with some next generation toys (think secondary IR headlights and a display in the cab for night time fun). All input is welcome as well as fun things you might like to see me try out.

More than anything this will probably turn into a track car or something to take out on deserted highways in the middle of the night lol.

P.S. this was my first choice to duplicate but it is a bit out of my ability and price range, if you want to see some cool stuff check out http://www.paulin.net/ and look at the VR concept animations for it.

I do want the back end from this on the vehicle I am building though.

I'm pretty good with Solidworks, but umm . . . yeah . . . that would be expensive. Think $60/hr for umpteen hundred hours worth of work.
