Anyone have any idea on how to transfer kindle books to the nook? I have a kindle which crapped out o me so I bought the nook, and I dont want to loose my library. The kindle books are DRM locked, but there is a way to do it, just havnt been able to find too much info on it

Download Calibre

As we speak, but does it remove the kindle drm so it will work on the nook? I have a few hundred kindle books and I dont want to loose any of them.

Also calibur can be found here: http://calibre-ebook.com/

I didn't know there was such a method. Good to know.

I have a Sony eReader that I absolutely love and will cry when it dies.

Yeh the I flipped the page on a kindle and now the screen is stuck with a message that it needs repair and I should call amazon. I call them and they say that its broken and will need to be replaced, but they will discount it to $125 for the new one. This was kindle #3, the first one also had an error message, 2nd one the screen was crushed under the weight of a real book. I'll give sony a try

Just too fragile, 3 of them in a year and a half? I love it, I really do just cant justify the 6 month lifespan that I have encountered. Others have had better luck with theirs and I will say that it is great at what it does, for reading books it really is incredible, but I decided to give the nook a try.

Here are the two next to each other. They are both the same size but the nook has a soft keyboard (with swype) and a full color secondary display at the bottom (dark in the photo). Really I havn't seen any reasons that the nook is better than the kindle yet (except for the possibilities the second screen opens up). Both readers are almost the same, and while the kindle has more memory the difference is something like 1000 books vs 2000 books, both amounts I could never read in the time I am away from my PC where I can just get more. The nook also has a replaceable battery and a place for an SD card. Again, both are good on paper and time will tell how the nook adds up

I've had nothing but good luck with my Sony. I travel constantly and it takes a beating with no trouble.

Yeh it definately has its advantages. It doesnt hurt your eyes after a while and it is a screen size that you can actually read. Overall its just a nice gadget to have

My friend just got an iPad and it was just under $800...but I agree with you on spending $300 on Kindles and then paying for the books...which is why my cheap ass will keep reading them on my phone. Heck, if I get the EVO, I'll have an almost 5'' screen. I'm still eyeballing the Archos 5 which has a 5'' screen, costs $250, does all Android apps, is a GPS and will of course read books as well...

Its not for everyone. I cant stare at a computer screen for more than 2 hours without my eyes hurting and tearing up. With the ebooks I can stare at the screen all day and never blink. Some folks can stare at an iphone screen for days on end, I can do a cell phone for about 20 minutes before I get a headache from the small letters.

The Dune books ROCK!!! The L Ron Hubbard Mission Earth books are great too! Aldiko has a ton of books but mostly older ones. I read Othello the other day between jobs for example. BTW Derf ever heard of pinch zoom, knucklehead?

If you havnt yet read the foundation series you should. Pretty friggin awesome books by the master, Asimov. I think the whole series is something like 30 books that all intertwine with each other over the course of 50k years, start with I robot (yeh like the movie) and work your way through the second foundation trilogy. The whole series is written by a few different authors and you can easily tell who the better writers are, but thay are all still awesome books

I just put the Kindle app on my Droid X the other night....it's completely transformed the device for me. I mean, I was addicted before with the amazing browsing ability (why they don't allow folders within bookmarks is puzzling though) but now....books on demand? And that HUGE screen on which to read them? It's the fucking BOMB.

Amazon just announced the 6" kindle in the graphite color to be released in august (27th I think).. without 3g, it's $139, with 3g it's $189. boyfriend has a kindle, I steal it from him every chance I get :lol

Yes. It really is. I bought one a few months ago, and love it. There is zero glare, it has the appearance of real paper, so even outside in the bright sun I can read it perfectly while I relax with a drink or whatever. One of my favourite pices of tech actually, since it makes getting books so easy, and makes reading them even easier.

Accessability. No running to the bookstore, no ordering books if they dont have what you want, no need to use bookmarks or anything like that. You want a book, go into the kindle store, do a search, buy and download. Plus, as I said, unlike a phone app, there is zero glare, its just like reading paper.

The Kindle app allows me to dowload books directly to my Droid X. Win. Apparently, I can't download newspapers or magazines using the app. I'm honestly not bothered as I can read the newspapers and magazines that I'm interested in directly in my browser already.

Other than that, I guess I don't see the need to spend the money on an additional device that does essentially what I can already do on my phone? Or am I missing something about the Kindle itself? I'm honestly not all that familiar with it's features and capabilities.

It's like anything, those that have it swear by it and those that don't, don't get it... I've used a Kindle and it is cool BUT when I'm at home, I can read using my laptop if I want and when I'm out, I use my phone. A kindle would be just another piece of crap for me to drag around that I don't really need right now. Besides, I'd break it for sure... Oh and I'M not reading books on the beach or whatever, so the lack of glare really doesn't entice me all that much...

My boss has the nook and loves it. FYI, the right page flip arrow on the case has a bad habit of cracking since you press it the most. Apparently they are recalling and fixing them, I think you only pay shipping.
