I know it's early, but I wanted to get this out to everyone....

"Motorcycle and Scooter Ride To Work Day is Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Press Release Issued By Ride to Work (May 21, 2008)

This year's seventeenth annual motorcycle and scooter commuting demonstration will increase the number of riders on the road, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. "Riding to work on this day shows the positive value of motorcycles and scooters for transportation. For many people, riding is an economical, efficient and socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits," states Andy Goldfine, the event organizer. Motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts and rider organizations worldwide encourage their members to ride to work on this day.

According to the United States Census Bureau and the Department of Transportation, over eighty million cars and light trucks are used for daily commuting on American roads, and about 200,000 motorcycles and scooters are a regular part of this mix. On Ride To Work Day, the practical side of riding becomes more visible as a larger number of America's 8,000,000 cycles are ridden to work.

Ride to Work Day helps demonstrate how these vehicles make parking easier and help traffic flow better. Studies have shown that across equal distances, commuting motorcyclists reach their destinations in less time than those using automobiles, that motorcycles and scooters consume less resources per mile than automobiles, and that they take up less space on roads. Motorcycle and scooter riders seek improved employer recognition and support for this form of transportation, and more public and government awareness of the positive value of riding.

More information on RTW day is available at the expanded Ride to Work Day website: http://www.ridetowork.org."

Unfortunately, it's all too common here. At least once a week. :(

Every day is ride to work day when my truck gets 12mpg and gas costs $3.79 (this morning, it'll go up before I get off work). Even the rainy ones. Just keep a dry set of clothes in my desk.

There was guy on my bike specific board that lives in western ohio that just got killed by a drunk driver about a week or two ago as well. He was fully geared but the dude smashed into him and dragged him a little ways and he ended up in a ditch. Drunken piece of shit FTL.

This isn't specifically directed at anyone on here. Damn.
I ride to work everyday as well. There are lots of other people who don't ride to work who might like to know about this info.

Read the info I posted. It's not just "a day for riding to work". There is more to it then that. Share this info with anyone you know and on any forums you are on. The point is to get as many motorcyclists we know on the road on that particular day.

Been some really shitty weather here lately, but that hasn't stopped me. I just collect more "you're nuts" looks than usual. To them I say, "I'm paying $20 a week for gas. How's that $70 feel?":zowned:

...and when do you ride? :zowned:

If I only commute, a tank of gas in the bike lasts me 3-4 days. If I ride for the hell of it, not even that. And I'll bet my little 650 gets a lot better mileage.

Um, I ride every day, unless there is a 50% chance of rain or higher. My commute to work is probably just shorter then yours.

Lets see, I got my R1 in March with 7350 miles on it. It's the end of May and I have 10,500 on it now. So i'd say i'm doing plenty of riding, both to work and for fun. :idk:

Nice. I don't get anywhere near that good. I'm actually tracking my mileage right now. I just filled up this morning. I want to see how many miles per tank I actually get.

I'm getting just over 40 mpg with the ZR1100. I guess 1993 technology ( carbs) isn't the best for mileage :idk:

I've been riding every day to work. The bike getting 40 mpg beats the hell out of 14-15 mpg with the Suburban :rockwoot: I'm literally saving $75 a week.

Sounds like July 16th will be SUV Smack a Newbie day too.

I ride to work most days. I get roughly 40-50mpg. My work is 20 miles away so it takes me 1 gallon to get to work and back. $4x5=$20-25 a week (Depending on gas prices). My truck gets maybe 15mpg if I'm nice to it (Which I'm not). So $4x15=$60 a week. Not hard to do the math there.

Pouring rain , lighting, and babysitting after work for a 1 year old. Cutty and I were trying to think of ways to mount a car seat to the bike. All the ways we thought of didn't sound the safest...... But waking up to rain and really bad lighting yeah, sorry no riding today....... Both the SV and the Vader are tucked in sleeping for the day. :( sad

Don't feel bad. I was promoting this day everywhere. So what does our weather do today? 70% chance of rain with possible localized flooding.

I'm at work till 4 and then have to head across town for a meeting and I won't get home till after 9 or 10. So no riding for me today. Stupid rain....

I hate rain. But after a week of working the later shift and then today working the early shift..... Way to tired..... So riding would have woke me up. HOwever it was bumper to bumper traffic for the last 10 blocks I had to drive. God damn people...............:panic:

Rode my motorcycle to work today (As usual) and then had a buddy bring his extra mountain bike since my new Mountain Bike's hydraulic disc brakes are leaking and are in the shop. So I rode a Motorbike and a Bicycle.

It was a good day!!!

I didn't notice any more bikes than usual. But I'll have to check the local news and see if there were more deaths from people getting smacked by drivers who had no clue it was "Ride to work" day.

didn't see any more bikes out on the road than expected.

did the excuses flow like water why they couldn't ride today.

needless to say, mine was the only bike in the employee parking lot. :(

I ride everyday unless it's raining in the morning ( only once this month). Wednesday I only saw one "extra" bike. Some guy on harley type cruiser that needs more time behind the handlebars. I hung pretty far back as he wasn't the smoothest rider I've seen.

Got caught in the rain thursday on the way home. It was raining pretty good and I passed a guy on a another bike. He had an open face helemt and he had a big ass grin seeing another bike in the rain.

I also found out that my Olympia jacket isn't waterproof like the salesman said it was. When I questioned him on friday about his waterproof comment, he replied "Oh, it's the liner that waterproof. Not the outer jacket." Asshole
