View Full Version : Your First Love?

So, at one point or another, one motorcycle has to peak interest, and make you the motorcycle fan that you are today. Whether it was a motorcycle your dad had when you were a kid, or a bike your friend had in highschool that you wished you had, or just something you saw in a magazine.... what was your first motorcycle love???? Pictures are welcomed!

Mine had to be a 2003/04 CBR600RR that I saw when I was back in HS. It definitely got me interested in sport bikes, and eventually racing.

1979(?) Honda CR250 Elsinore.
My brother had one when I was a kid. My dad had plenty of street bikes, but none had the cool factor of the 'smoker to me.

Id wanted a hurricane 600 for years before I rode. Pure luck I found one for cheap when I first started looking. Still wish I hadn't sold it, but the hawk should be as much fun or more when its done

The Hurricane 600 was probably my first but since my best friend said he would only buy that bike and we both wanted a bike but didn't want the same thing I went for this.

Kind of ugly to look at now but at the time...late 80's...I fell in love with...The Ninja 600R !!

I was totally a katana fan back in the mid 90s, dude up the street from me had one and I thought it was the shiznit. Then I started riding and finally rode one, found out it was crap compared to the sport bikes of the time.

Always been around motorized bikes of some sort but when I was younger this one had me hooked. Also, a friend of my brothers had an '85 or '86 Ninja that I loved.

First was this 350 Honda my old man got!!! 1971ish I got a ride on the back of that thing and that was it. you could ride bikes on the road!!!! at the ripe old age of 5 I was hooked forever. broke my leg and still got rides even with the cast on and sticking almost straight out as we rode along. rode all the way to grandmas house that way, 350 miles. (ok I took a couple brakes in the car but most of the way I was on the bike)

They were gone by the time I was looking, so I went SV. Glad I did as I really like the V-twin.

I never had any interest in bikes until one day I came home for a visit and my mom says with a childish grin, "have you looked in the garage?"

Before that day I never knew, or cared, what a naked bike was. Didn't know anything about bikes, but all I knew was that my mid 50s dad just bought a red sportbike.

And I knew I had to have one.

It was an 04 Kawi Z1000

I only got to ride it one night and that was at the drag strip when it was slammed and stretched.

I still wish I would've had the money to buy it from him when he sold it. :(

nice. I had one a while ago, just had to have it for a little while.

My dad's wound up being his first attempt at chopping a bike. he bought it brand new. crashed it by sliding under a semi trailer when the driver pulled out in front of him. next thing we knew the body work was hanging in the shed with a fresh coat of Krylon. the forks got longer the "sissy bar" on the back got huge. he put on some wild ass pipes, it was interesting.

You sure that isn't Alex Barros on the 500?

Edited to add: I first noticed bikes around 1985 when Honda was advertising the Interceptor and Suzuki was doing the same with the GSX-R, but at that point I just thought they looked cool. I took notice again around 90 or 91 when one of the bike mags put out an article with tuner bikes. If I remember there was a turbo Hurricane, a turbo ZX-11, and a few other bikes. Again if I remember correctly they were running around 190+ top speeds and it really caught my attention. All that stuff was nibbles though. Seeing, and more importantly hearing, a Ducati 851 with an exhaust on it really set the hook. That was almost 20 years ago and I can still recall the "What the fuck is that thing!" feeling.

I was 8yrs old on my Uncle's 1984 honda shadow V 700
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/timchrisbike.jpg

Taken at a KOA camp ground in Monroe, MI

I remembered holding on for dear life, the roaring sound of the motor, the vibration, the wind. Thinking WOW, we must be going a million miles an hour!!!

It wasn't till later after I was 18 that I was able to look at my own. Then much like the other people here... the F4i was my dream bike. But I got my used 97 EX500. Same uncle went and looked at it and test rode it for me. Then showed me how to ride it in a parking lot.

My experience is similar. I grew up watching chinese tv that had girls riding motorcycles and I knew as soon as I was able I would be riding. My cousin's boyfriend took me riding on the back of his GSXR1000 when I was 14 and since then I always loved the GSXR's, any size, I just loved the blue and white paint scheme.

Not exactly sure how it happened, but I started liking the naked bikes. First one I really drooled over was the BMW Dakar. I saw a Z1000 at the dealership and also drooled over that. After I got licensed, I saw a 2nd gen SVS and fell in love with it. The SV650S became my 2nd bike and the SV650 naked became my 4th.

Was first introduced to bikes when I was a kid and my step-brothers got bikes. My dad tried to teach me how to ride, but my mom put a stop to that real quick. I got back into bikes when I was 21, but didn't buy one until I was 25. It was a 1981 Kawi that I bought in 99. Had too many problems with it and it wasn't that much fun riding. Gave it up when I left the AF soon thereafter.

A year later at the new place, I became friends with a guy that had a 98 Katana that was fun to ride. I decided I wanted a bike. Stupidly bought a 198x Honda CB750 that was more trouble than it was worth. Luckily, I was able to sell it for more than I paid for it after I gave it a quick rattlecan paint job. Bought my friend's 98 Katana. It was a fun bike and I enjoyed it on the track, but really fell in love with the '05 R6.

Bought one brand new, then sold it shortly after my daughter came along. Went 5 years without a bike after that and hated it. Got the Strom cause I love the upright riding position, mixed with the fact that it does a good job handling the curves, even when loaded down with top case and side cases. Gas Man can attest to the fact that bike can still corner when fully loaded, as he saw me run hot into a couple turns on the way down to the Rally, but the bike still held to the road. I hope to keep this bike for a LONG time.
