So, in comparing my pelvic region with the pelvic region pictured here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inguinal_hernia (WARNING: This is a picture of a penis) , it appears I have an inguinal hernial. No, I haven't been to the Dr yet.
But my pelvic region is swollen in exactly the same manner as the one on Wikipedia and I can obviously palpate the swollen area. Anyway, does anyone have experience with this, or know how much (ballpark) the surgery for something like that runs?
Fuck. Not really good timing.

So thats what your penis looks like.
Hell i think they can do that with scopes. In and out surgery i would guess.

I actually had my wife compare me to that picture after I shaved, in an effort to self diagnose...she giggled when she saw that picture.
It says its outpatient surgery. Still, that can't be cheap.

Can you reduce it, thats the important question?
Sorry not sure of the cost of the procedure, but i have seen it done and assisted on it as a student so with a case of beer I can give it a shot

No, I can not push it back in, it stays swollen and is hard....

My husband said his(without insurance) was about $6200.
With insurance, he paid $1200.
He's had 3 hernias....so if you need to know more about it, let me know. He's the expert.

if it is a hernia and ist like you describe I would say sooner as opposed to later esp if it becomes strangulated.

As long as I can't push it back in then I'm not strangulated right?

Correct, it can be incarcerated but if its strangulated thats bad. You will know the signs to get yer ass to the er immediatley.

Ok, the pain at this point is very mild and annoying. I guess I should avoid heavy lifting and jiu jitsu for a while eh?

probably, if its a bigger hernia thats better as in it wont become strangulated as easily as a smaller one

It's not even half as big as the Wiki pic, and it doesn't hurt. It's been 8 years since I actually even noticed it.

Had one the size of a silver dollar and had it repaired using laproscopy. I have absolutely no scarring because of this method, so I would suggest you use that (though it is more $$$ if you are paying out of pocket). The cost was around 5-6 grand and I had to pay about 500-600 for the PPO plan I had at the time. The mesh makes your intestines "tight" and a tad harder to breathe. It took me 6 months to breathe normally again, though I do alot of lifting in the core area so I push it hard. You also heal much faster using the laproscopic method. I was lifting heavy again after 6 weeks.
Hernias should be soft and be able to push back in. If its hard as you say, it could be the missing other 2 inches from your 3 inch penis. :lol

Get that thing checked. My youngest had one at 9 months and was back in his bouncer the next day. He's had no problems since and minimal scarring. I obviously am of minimal advice as I don't have a penis, but I've had a regular hernia so I understand to a degree what you're describing...The day I got worried, I couldn't get out of the bathtub because of the massive knot and pain. Better now than after it strangulates. I just lost my insurance when I left my job, so I'm in the same boat. Can't afford Cobra with no income, right?

I am guessing that the insurance company got a discount. This was in 2000.

Firstly, I wouldn't wait just due to the pain you will endure while a) walking - roughly a 7 of 10. b) Riding a bike smooth surface - 8 of 10 potholes/bumps - 9 of 10 c){and most important} strangulation of the intestines in the hernia.
My Pop had a hernia that he got when he was 34 and when he was 65 it had been strangulated for so long that it had basically lost blood flow and started to rot inside. They doc had to remove like 12-14 inches of his intestines and part of his colon. Was stranded in the hospital with tubes hangin every which way from sunday out of his body. He HATED it, couldn't wait to be out of there. So that will also cramp the riding style as well.
Best bet is to get it taken care of and be down for maybe two - three weeks of the ride season and be healed and not worry about it for a good long time. It is Outpatient.
The cost thing........Well, how do you put a pricetag on your health. If you have kids think about time away from them, if not then think of time away from the beloved motorcycle that will be parked for ever if you wait too long.
Just sayin

Kids. Pssst. Stop using them as a reason. Their healthy. Plus you're suppose to die before them anyways. Duh!

Well its just not an option to get the surgery right now, so I'm going to let it ride a bit. Will still make it to the Dr. here soon. Going to have to put the bike up for sale unfortunately. I really thought I could make it to 40 before my body started falling apart, This year I have sprained my ankle twice, developed a nasty shellfish allergy (shrimp was my favorite food) and now have part of my fucking intestines pushing through my body.
If I can baby it along for half a year I should be able to swing it ok. I was planning to compete in Novice at the NAGA Jiu Jitsu tournament in Sept....now I can't even go to class. Fuck!
Thanks for the advice and listening to me vent dudes.

When I got back from the trip I had a consistant, small, ache that felt like it was from my right testical...which is one of the reasons I went to a cruiser. Dr. said he couldn't see anything wrong so I figured I was being a puss....but maybe that was a precursor to this? I dunno. I know when I camped I carried a lot of huge logs out from the woods for the fire....
