Ya know... ever since my bud Marko from PA came into town back in Feb. I sometimes think about how his wife commented about our driving in Michigan. Now granted I was driving with them during non rush hour traffic times and not in the crazy busy areas.
On my way to work this morning I was laughing at what was around me in the left lane. I had an easy 4 vechicles behind me in the distance of what SHOULD only be 1. Same really goes for in front of me. We're all rolling at about 80mph right on top of each other.
So I took a pic of my rear view, no law against that, just texting. LOL

Not the best angle... the cars had moved. But you can see the shadows easily... we are all damn near glued to each others bumps... normal to use... extreme tail gating to most others...
LOL...
I've always said, if you can drive in michigan you can drive anywhere.

It's illegal to text but you can still use your phone?
Here it's illegal to use handheld devices (no matter what you're doing).

Really the only drivers I have found that share a michigan mindset towards agresive driving... is New Yorks. Tommy rolls just like I do. Don't take shit, and I'll F'in hit you to prove my point.

It's ok to talk on the phone, and dial, but as of July 1st, illegal to text and drive. It's stupid. Even cops say, it will be hard to prove on the side of the road that the driver was texting and not just dialing.

Really? I have been thru atlanta a half a dozen times.. I don't think anywhere south of the mason dixon is bad.
Understand this is 7am light traffic. I don't get back traffic in my area. Now when I lived in the northern suburbs of Detroit (Royal Oak/Troy by I-696). It was freakin insane! Or in Novi area where I-275/I-96/I-696/M5/M14 all come together... we call it the mixing bowl. F that place from about 2pm - 7pm
Aren't you in the right lane?
Mirror!!! Just like no the drivers seat isn't on the passenger side.

That's the way it is here. Remarkably it works fine. Very few accidents really. But when it gets dense you have to stay on your toes.

F that!!
They can't go any faster than I can... hence the same amount of traffic ahead of me. Not pictured of coarse.
That's one thing I dont get when riding with out of towners... If I'm in the left lane and doing 85. I'm passing everybody. Guys from other states move over to the center lane, just to move back to the left to pass the next guy a 1/2-1 mile later, when nobody is behind you trying to pass you. WHY?
F that... when I'm traveling on my bike I rarely come out of the left lane... nobody usually is rollin faster than me so why should I if I know I'll be back there to pass again very soon.

From your mirror, it's obvious the right lane is totally clear........So why are you still in the left lane if you're not passing someone?
And how do YOU know nobody wants to go faster than you? Can you read their minds?

Ive been driving the same way since I got comfortable behind the wheel, so a few months after I turned 16 lol. I think thats why people look at me like Im a lunatic around here but when I lived in MI for a year I fit right in. I used to do 100 everyday going to work on a stretch of 14 I think it was and would have people right there with me the whole way.

There is a big truck in the center lane and right lane. You can barely see the tires below my rear view of the center lane truck... there was no where to go... stuck.
Plus I was getting off a left lane exit about a 1/2 mile from when this pic was taken. Otherwise I would have tried to set up a better angle thru the mirror.

If everyone followed the same rule there wouldn't of been any traffic in front of you. But because everyone thinks they'll go faster than everyone else or they just don't understand the rule of the road, you end up with a stack of cars.. So F that!

That's until the Florida drivers invade. I left July 5th from Atlanta to Savannah and was surrounded by Florida drivers. If there was a slight hill and turn a mile ahead, then it was time to slow down. I was happy to get past Macon onto I-16 (FL people usually stay I-75) which is the Georgia Autobahn. Set your cruise around 90-100mph and chill.
But in Atlanta, we got mad tailgatin skillz.
The nicest drivers are NC drivers. I've never seen people go so far out of their way to stay out of the faster lane.

I kinda agree with GasMan....lived in IL, TN, MI for 7 years and now CA. MI drivers will tend to drive 80-85 in large packs and all lanes seem to do this. BUT...they do not drive as close as they do in CA nor do we in CA slow down for curves. There is this stretch on I-75 around Rochester Road when I was there last week in MI where I will do 90mph and the flow would slow down to 70. They do seem to leave larger gaps between cars vs. CA. I always snuck in between cars because in LA we know how to roll like that. Start turning when the car next to you is half way passed and you'll get in front. I know this pissed a bunch of people off too....sportin with the CA plates.
I also noticed that people don't back down in MI on the freeways as much as they do in CA. CA drivers are alot more laid back (and alot more illegal).

I think a lot of people think they are the only ones on the road so they can drive where ever they please, having no regard for anyone around them. I HATE passing on the right but do it if I need to.

SC driving sucks.. it seems the norm to travel the EXACT limit on highways. I have to pass people when I'm only going 5 over. There are some stubborn people that stay in the left, but most stay right. There are tight groups of people that go 85+, but I see too many cops to risk that.
NJ driving was nice. It was the norm to go 5 over, and most stay right for the daredevils that aren't scared of tickets.
MI driving.. I don't want to drive there if it's normal for people to tailgate like that. I'd just slow down to piss people off till they pass. I don't trust anyone enough to tailgate going 85 mph.. city traffic sure w/e, but highway speeds nuh uh.

I experienced the same thing living in NC, whenever I'd go between Greensboro and Charlotte. I don't know whether it's because they're afraid of cops, or they're not car enthusiasts, or because the limited number of lanes in each direction makes them feel nervous. You go down to Atlanta and people drive way faster. Which is either because the highways are wider there, or because most of them are ex-Northerners, lol.

Well, I drove for three years in Germany where the REAL TALK Autobahn is, and let me tell ya, you don't roll in the left lane unless you are passing ONLY. If you were to get and I mean be the one that is rear-ended on the Autobahn in the left lane then it is your fault and you are cited.
My favorite story of my driving the A-bahn over there- I rolling along hitting th limiter on my 96 Dodge Neon at 118 mph and passing some one doing about 80 when I see a vehicle must have been at least 1/4 mile back in my rear view. Looked to the sideview to make sure I could move back out of the left lane and by the time I was checking the rearview again on my lane change the car was now about 100 yards behind me. This all happened in about, 5-15 seconds. Right after I clear the lane a red blur passes me like I was standing still and again I was goin around 118, every now and then the limiter would slow me down.
So after driving there and driving here I do get a little crazed when some tool is just sunday drivin in the left. that is the go fast lane if you aren't screamin, then move the F over.

That is why German cars' suspension systems are wired so tight.......The cars need body control at high speeds. Germans might not be the most expressive or romantic people, but they don't fuck around when they build shit.
Most American and Japanese cars float all over the place, and their steering is too quick and artificial.

Not unless I have no way to pass them. If theres people doing the exact speed limit in the fast lane and the people in "slower" lanes ie the center, right, etc are passing us then I get irritated. I see no problem to still be in the left lane if Im still passing people in the other lanes. Sure it does. What if you tried to pass someone on the right, but then he finally decides to move over at the same time? BOOM. Happens all the time, why? Because people know they should move to the right, and when they finally get around to doing it, they might do it without signaling.

If you're already going 85 or something, and there's only one guy behind you, then that's not as bad as doing only 70 and holding up 10 people behind you.
But still, I don't care how packed the right lane is, there is always a hole you could cut into if you wanted, so that you could let someone pass. If he wants to go 120, let him.

You're not being consistent in this thread at all. Are you staying in the left lane and making people pass you on the right while you're passing people? Do you speed up and close the gap on them once they're in the right lane trying to get by too?
I don't care how fast I'm driving, if I'm not passing someone in the next 30 seconds, I'm moving over a lane. It's just basic courtesy, which is obviously lost on many anymore.

Maybe in your little world it is courtesy, but the reality of it is if there is no one in the left lane behind you it doesn't matter. It is like putting your turn signal on at 2am with not a car in sight. I guess if it makes you sleep better at night, then so be it.
I think many states have left only to pass rules so cops and emergency vehicles have an easier time getting by traffic. I cannot think of any other reason for it.
And the reason JoJoYZF doing 85 getting passed in the right lane is simply because he is not checking mirrors often enough. But I'm suspecting the dude is in his 20s....big ego trip at that age. hahaha

Maybe in your little world you're the only one on the road, but very rarely do I check my mirror and see nobody back there. I hate left lane campers so why woud I do it to anybody else? I bet every lane clogger out there thinks they're driving "fast enough". If the road is wide open I see your point, bit then I'm probably not passing anyone either.
Agree on JoJo's age and ego playing into his poor driving skills. :-)

People, we ride motrocycles. No need to worry about people sitting in the left lane when all we need to do is this...

For those that don't know what 696 looks like in Michigan. I refered to how it's below ground level. Here's what I mean... I was there Thursday...

I thought about this thread today. I was headed down I-16 between Macon and Savannah in Georgia. I was rolling 95-100mph being followed probably no longer than 1.5 car lengths and we rolled like that for about 20-30 miles AND passing cops. Of course below Atlanta I sat in 15 miles of bumper to bumper traffic (on a Sunday afternoon) because some dumbass decided to cause a big fucking wreck and oh yeah had a Michigan tag on what was once a large SUV that is now legally allowed to park in "Compact Car Parking". Fucking amateurs.
But rolling 95-100mph for 20miles and passing GSP doing radar is nothing but win!!!

i hate mfrs that creep in the left lane.. they put up signs FINALLY in michigan: THE LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING, STAY RIGHT UNLESS YOU ARE PASSING. I have seen those signs in the South for years.. and people seem to follow it a little better outside of Michigan..
