So, here's the ad: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/mcy/1854383511.html
I emailed her asking why her price was so low....
All I got in response was this chain letter:
Hi,
Up for sale is a perfect 2008 Suzuki GSX-R 750 Orange-Black with 4,014 miles on it,new tires, runs and drives excellent. This bike has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. It has always been kept inside the house through the winter months and has never been laid down. I bought it when i was serving in NAS Corpus Christi, U.S. Army base in Texas, and now I am in Naval Base Point Loma, California. The bike is still in Corpus Christi,TX.
I have dropped my price to $2,900 (purchase price) since this is an Urgent Sale! and I need to sell it before 10th August when I will be deployed in Iraq with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home.
If you're interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your; Full Name and Shipping Address to open a case with eBay they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 7 days inspection period before committing to buy the bike. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Corporal Laura Meier
PS: for more pictures of the bike see my photobucket album: http://s802.photobucket.com/albums/yy310/Laurapm21/

I see a lot of low priced items due to military personnel being deployed. I'm not saying it isn't a scam, but that's pretty much the norm around here..
why would she call an nas an army base?

Not sure why Ebay would need someone's name and address....

Yeah, that's the standard scam that's been going on for years on ebay, craigslist and other sites. No point wasting your time further.

Of three cars and a motorcycle in my garage, there is only a base sticker on one of the cars, and that's only because its been there for like five years and I'm too lazy to remove it. Base stickers are meaningless these days, especially in the AF.
The ad is a scam. That one, and ones like it, are very common on CL these days. Have a good look at the format of the ad and the "random" characters at te bottom of the page, and it's easy to spot.

...from another forum and although different...sounds very similar...
"This 2007 Suzuki GSX-R 600, with 3,846 miles, runs and drives excellent. This bike has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. This is a babied bike. Never been to a track day, dropped, or pushed in anyway. Clear title free of encumbrances and liens. All stock, excellent condition. I have a book with every single receipt from maintenance. I bought it when i was serving in Fort Belvoir, U.S. Army base near Bethesda, MD and now I am in United Kingdom.
I have dropped my price to $2800 (purchase price) since this is an Urgent Sale! and I need to sell it before 28 July, when I will be deployed in Iraq with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home."

No kidding and if you look...the two sales pitches have quite a few similarities...would almost bet they are the same person and/or group that put out both of these.

Why would transferring from the UK to Iraq mean that you need to dispose of a bike in the US? Logic fail. It would make more sense if they were shipping out from the US to Iraq. Oops, but that would mean potential buyers would ask if they could come over and see the (non-existant) bike. Can't have that.

 Someone on the other forum also mentioned that it's funny how it states "Fort Belvoir near Bethesda, MD"...I mean yes it is but it's actually closer to Washington, DC. :idk:

Base stickers are a thing of the past now. I know the Air Force has done away with them. A year or two after 9/11 they stopped issuing base stickers and went with 100% ID checks as the norm.
For those that don't know, with a base sticker, before 9/11, security forces would wave you on the base as they saw your sticker. As opposed to stopping and showing your ID.

Ask for pictures of the VIN tag
Tell 'em you want to buy it, but you're in Nigeria and will pay for it by a bank check mailed using FedEx. All you need is their full name, phone number, address and email.
