Right, but do you want a 4 yr old hitting your flexy screen with a plastic sword?

Astute point, sir.
gorilla glass has been on TVs for awhile. What a crappy article.
If you want to see gorilla glass, look at our iphone or android phone. There is a high chance it's gorilla glass.

It was stated in the article (they just didn't identify the manufacturers using it):
"It picked up its first customer in 2008 and has quickly become a $170 million a year business as a protective layer over the screens of 40 million-plus cell phones and other mobile devices."

Well wouldn't this article have been better in 2008...

oh it's not invincible. You can still damage it, ask some people that have destroyed their iphone screens.

Because it's impossible to make a rounded edge on a piece of glass?

True, but one that's as thin as they're touting? Still going to do some damage when you run into it.

I don't think you'll have it just hanging out in the middle of the room... suspended in mid air:idk:
shit a current LCD TV could cause some damage if you hung it out like that...
.uh if it's as thin as they say... you could mount it to a wall like a picture... when was the last time a kid got injured because they ran into a picture hanging on a wall?
when was the last time a kid got injured

Im not aware of any TVs that use Gorilla Glass which I think was the point of the article.

tried to find one on google, but it's flooded with that article.
There is even a ton of other forums that are questioning their mobile devices about if they got gorilla glass and demanding that they want it.
Prior to this article, none of these idiots had any fucking idea what it was and now they have to have it because of a stupid ass fucking article. Awesome, can't buy that kind of advertising.

It's still going to have all the electronics behind the glass, as well as your mounting brackets........So figure 5-6 inches away from the wall. Plus, most people mount their TV lower than they would hang a painting. Not too hard to imagine a kid running around and then hitting his face on that TV.

Again, not really a problem that would be unique to these swank new sets. My kid's bled from banging into a countertop corner, and there's no fancy glass on that.

The glass sat unused for what, 50 years? And you are calling people idiots because they are excited about the potential modern-day uses of it now that people know about it? Wow.
I don't know what you do for fun (and you do seem like a blast) but I'll wager most people don't dig through the records at the patent office or research micro-fiche at the library for old articles on scientific advancements.

yeah I have no doubt that there will be SOME kid that does it... like trip's article about the kid injured because of a fucking picture.
but enough to worry about it? no.
I'm sure if you looked there's probably 10k+ people injured by ball point pens since they came into being... should we have just stuck to pencils?
or how about motorcycles and cars... god knows billions of people have died because of car and motorcycle wrecks... should we have just stuck to horses?
come on... we can't pad the world... people are gonna get injured in stupid ways... some killed... that's life.

Besides, there are already TVs that use "glass" around the edges. My 5 year old Sony XBR LCD was like that. He point behind his glass is that they can make how screens thinner and still retain the same or better resistance to failures. Btw the new Samsung Galaxy S has a new super thin screen ... hmmm...

God damn, what are you fucking 2 years old? Unused discoveries find uses years later more than just this instance and most of them people don't know anything about it. An article appears with the term "gorilla glass" and it's already become part of people's lexicon and they are demanding to have it even though they have been seeing it standard on many other devices without knowing the term "gorilla glass." It's fucking retarded hype and you have fallen into it as well.
