OK, much to my surprise, that doesn't look as unwatchable as I fully expected.
I strongly doubt it will ever be as good as the British show...looks like they had to put just enough of that American hick, "Here, hold my beer; watch this' factor in it to make it appeal to the American audience...but that aside, it looks like a bit of fun.

I think it will suck, but I will watch. Dont want the fat guy, but Top Gear had a fat guy before James came on.

I'll say it again, NBC blew a fantastic opportunity to take this show to the top of American TV ratings. They had Leno still under contract. Rather than create a fight with Conan, and ruin Late Night TV for everyone, all they had to do was team Leno, with Stacey David, and maybe even bring in Tanner Foust (like they ended up doing) as the young guy, and they'd have had a super-strong prime time show, and not fucked up their Late Night schedule.
It could have been a great hit for Universal, and Leno would actually be doing something he likes, and doesn't suck at (like comedy).

I'll save comment until they test "real cars"
I've had it with unobtainium cars on top gear. Shows at its best when it does everyday cars. UK version is great because they call out POS for what they are.
I don't need a fucking informertial or stupid "speed week" with the worlds supercars.

I like that its on the History channel, as long as there is no auto sponsorship. Tanner speaks his mind, even about cars he uses and is sponsored by, but I see that fat guy being a shill and I like Ferrara cuz he wont care, he will say a car is shit cuz he came from nothin and he has a gig on Rescue Me, so this is just for laughs.

Fuck the real cars. I can go test drive them myself. The supercars I can't. Keep it the same as the OG. Do some super cars and some regular cars. Mix it up and beat the shit out of them.
Even thought I didn't agree with what they had to say about what was a cool car and what wasn't I liked that they spoke their mind or at least it seemed that way.
Thats the good shit. Be honest about it. If you don't like something say so and say why. It doesn't always make that car a piece of shit because not everyone is looking at the same thing. But if you like it say why and if you don't do the same. Thats what I want.
And I watched that Tanner guy on another show and he wasn't too bad. So he might not be too bad. The guy with the glasses I will have to see. The other guy might be ok but we will see.
Just watch the show and try to clear your mind. Its not the OG and never will be no matter how good it is, so just don't compare it. Its not replacing the other show so there is no need to compare them.
James
They look to buddy buddy in the trailer. Half the fun of top gear is the guys constantly berating each other.

Yeah too much of my generation there... needs to have an older comedic guy. Sucks... Leno would have been perfect as a Jeremy Clarkston version.

I think putting it on cable was about the only chance the show had to avoid being an industry shill. History isn't solely dependent on advertising dollars to fund their network like NBC is. History also doesn't have to worry about pissing off their affiliates since they don't have any.
History's problem will be their owner (A&E Networks, joint venture between Hearst, Disney-ABC, and NBC Universal) getting nervous. That should be manageable though since an advertiser would risk alienating half the major broadcast networks. My guess is they will still play it safe by only testing supercars they will always love and hold challenges involving older used cars advertisers won't care about.

The only reason I see the watch this version is for the challenges with vehicles from this country. The other version already test every vehicle made.
