I think I'll give Dr. Laura (who is no kind of mental health professional) a bit of her own style of advice on this.

You're being too sensitive.

Suck it up, Sunshine.

lol @ the moral majority

Apparently her doctoral thesis was on the "Effects of Insulin on 3-0-Methylglucose Transport in Isolated Rat Adipocytes".

From that to shock jock radio?

What am I missing?

The only part where I find irony or her being too sensitive is her caving in and apologizing. :idk:

Hard to disagree with this:
"self-appointed activist types breed hate, breed anger, breed destruction should anyone hold up a mirror or dare to disagree." She added that the phenomenon could be observed in all aspects of society, from politics to education to the workplace.

i think she be allowed to say it. Black rappers can say 10 billion times against themselves, fuck em. You don't want it used against you, don't promote the use of it in your own communities.

The irony is that just whining about the sort of thing that she would tell anyone, who phoned her show, to "just get over it."

I didn't watch the Larry King stuff but based on the article I don't see it as whining.

I see it as sticking to her guns:

Don't want me to drop the "N" word? Fuck off, I'll say it on YouTube.

You have a right to free speech.

You don't have a right to have someone else pay you for it.

Agree for the 2nd time this morning.

I don't know who listens to her...I've heard of her but that's about it. After hearing the playback I don't think what she said was all that bad. Imho there wasn't anything wrong with the way she used the N word EXCEPT for the fact that she repeated it so many times which seemed a little over the top. :idk:

It was probably so liberating for her she got carried away....like a kid that's denied sugar by their mom then goes over to a friend’s house and devours all their candy :rockwoot:

I agree with all three of you. I've never listened to her show but I read the transcript from this incident and I don't really see the problem other than people being hypersensitive about race.

I heard the clip... at one point she says, "nigger, nigger, nigger"... I think that was out of line, but the rest... and her overall point rang true.

Maybe the audio can be interpreted differently. As I said I just read the transcript. When I read it I considered if I would find it to be offensive if she had said "N-word" instead. To me it wouldn't have been offensive at all. That means, through my prism anyway, what was offensive was the simple fact that a white person said the word, or said the word repeatedly, and the context was irrelevant to those getting bent out of shape about it.

I've never listened to her.
I've ran across email forwards about her but thats about it.

I really don't have a problem with her saying the word. I just think that anyone who uses the word is an asshole.

On a side note

"When I first started out in radio," she said, "people would disagree — they disagreed, they didn't hate. They didn't try to censor, they didn't try to destroy an opposing point of view. Instead, they just argued and debated, and argued and disagreed, and debated and argued." Now, she continued, "self-appointed activist types breed hate, breed anger, breed destruction should anyone hold up a mirror or dare to disagree." She added that the phenomenon could be observed in all aspects of society, from politics to education to the workplace.

I can only speak for what I can remember but back in the 80's (I guess early side of middle) it was talk radio and people like Morton Downey that pushed discusssion into the toilet.

So long as shes still making money, you know she will get paid for speaking engagement sand that sort of stuff. Might as well milk the controversey while its still hot.
