The World’s Fastest Superbike is also the Safest

"The greatest testament to the rider aids the S1000RR has introduced is that not one bike was crashed throughout the press event that witnessed 160 journalists sampling the machine."
– Cycle World

BMW Motorrad USA is delighted to launch a promotion to help our active-duty servicemen and women ride more safely. Active* military personnel who purchase a new BMW S 1000 RR from August 19, 2010 until December 31, 2010, will receive a free safety package including Race ABS & Dynamic Traction Control worth $1,480 from BMW Motorrad USA.

The number of accidents, injuries, and deaths among US military personnel has been an issue of great concern throughout the U.S. armed forces. BMW Motorrad USA’s performance riding training partner the California Superbike School (CSS) is actively involved in providing training to the U.S. Marine Corps to help reduce the number of Marines that are injured and killed in motorcycle accidents.

This year, CSS switched from rival 600 Supersport motorcycles to the BMW S 1000 RR. Despite having 80 more horsepower, the number of student crashes on track has declined by 58%. While the tracks, training, and students haven’t changed, the safety features of the S 1000 RR have led to a significant reduction in accidents.

The new BMW S 1000 RR is not only the most powerful production bike on the planet, it’s also the safest, thanks to the cutting-edge electronic rider aids Race ABS and Dynamic Traction Control. No other motorcycle from any manufacturer offers this unique combination of safety features.

To show our gratitude and appreciation to our men and women in uniform for their service to our country BMW now offers them our safety package on the S 1000 RR for free. The result will be safer riders, fewer accidents and greater protection against harm to those who protect us.

Most likely the drain plug or oil filter was loose and fell out. I doubt the motor blew.

I dunno, found a lot of horror stories on the s1krr boards looking for it. Camshafts and conrods breaking, oil leaking from the sightglass, gearbox issues, and guys with magnetic drainplugs that look like that wooly willy toy. Id be leery as hell of the things

There isn't much of anything as far as failure talk on BMWMOA, but those guys are mostly older folks and not riding it like the younger crowd.

And, let's not forget the reason for the first recall.

The first recall was a limiter put on until the first 600 mile service. Many of the people that bought the bike didn't break it in correctly and ran the shit out of it... blew them up. At the end of the day it is still a motor that requires proper break-in and a rider that will ride it accordingly.

Almost every first year bike is going to have issues, but as I said I watched one do 1:15 laps for 2 hours straight at summit point with no hiccups at all. Also talked to the rider and had nothing but good things to say. Most likely idiots being idiots is the problem besides the normal first model year issues that will be sorted for next year.
