I searched but didn't see this posted here.
I thought this was all over the interwebs.
If it isn't, it should be...
From another board:
Hey guys,
A guy on the FZ1OA forum was at Deal's Gap last week and some college punk for University of Tennessee tried to steal his bike. Guy was sitting on the porch just hanging out and looked at a guy putting on gloves, helmet and back protector just like his. The guy was getting on a bike just like his. It was HIS FZ1 the guy was getting on. The guy stopped him. Called the LEO. They handcuffed him, but eventually let him go because he did not start the bike and ride away.
I have attached their picture that the photographers from Killboy got of them. If you know anyone at Tennessee send the picture to them so they can post it. Maybe the guy can be humiliated a little bit.

How did the guy plan to steal the bike? Were the keys in or was he planning to hotwire or whatever it is you do to steal a bike?
Too bad that rider didn't have a gun and popped his fucking brains out.

I'm sure that the victim knows the guy's name but hasn't posted for fear of civil litigation...:idk:
You must understand that the guy was not charged with any crime. If the bike owner posts his name and implies that he is a "bike thief" he can be sued for slander. Not to mention what would happen if some well meaning but misguided individual were to harm the thief in any way after his info was posted. BTW I'm not saying that this didn't happen BUT what if this were just some hoax to get back at this kid? :idk: I mean, I have pictures of Trip. I could post a pic of him on various forums saying that he gave my sister AIDS, for example.... Who's to stop me?:idk: Again, I'm not saying that this isn't real but I am surprised that all of you skeptics are jumping on board with out any questions....

That's kinda where I was going, actually. Someone is gonna get hold of this dude's identity and go all ape shit on him. I'd rather see his ass prosecuted and him thrown in jail. Maybe (if what happened actually happened) that'll stop future theft attempts.

I wasn't referring to that previous analogy (which ya'll were apparently too literal to grasp anyway). Maybe I should have said arrogant piety? Same goes for cars. If someone is in the car without tampering with it or attempting to move it, not illegal. We know of a few Miata owners that have warned us to park it with the top up, their experiences with people getting into the car brought on their advice.

thing that gets me is that if he had started it and tried to ride away, it will end in one of two ways. 1. He evades his pursuers. 2. He wrecks the bike. There is no third option. This guy just stole a bike, do you really think he's just going to pull over? Not a chance.

The culture change that is happening over there is pretty bad too. The more aggressive enforcement has driven away a lot of the sportbikes that scared off the pirates. The pirates up there are increasing exponentially and they cause far more reported and injury accidents and brought with them a new attitude at the store. They had to boot people from the premises for poor attitude to deals gap staff. That's the first time this has happened in awhile. The gap has really changed in the last 3 years.

I haven't been there in probalby 2 years. The cruisers up there sucked then. Worst of all, they acted like self-appointed public avengers, out to regulate the sport bike outlaws despite they are hte ones with the "outlaw" vests. Fucking lawyers.
I want to go back but I'll go during late fall/early winter and late winter/early spring. Best riding I had was the first time I went on Superbowl weekend. I saw maybe 10 cars on the Cherohala and a few sportbikes and sport cars at the Gap. No one was there! I even passed 2 THP cars near Foothills rolling about 70+ and they didn't give a shit.

Of it looking like that? Not much since it looks different now. Main difference is all the white parts are primered (including tank) and the red top is left untouched. I've just been too lazy to sand the rest and paint it.

Gotcha, forgot flickr fucked everything up recently. I might throw a thread together since my bike was a project (bought it wrecked and not working) and people are always wanting more pics/info on my bike. The F3 has been a tank with 45k+ miles on it.
Here is probably the best weathered look one. I've seriously considered sanding it down again, spraying it black to sand it again then clear coating the tank.

I was watching Campus PD today and on it htey showed a guy yelling and screaming that some guy and his girl were going to steal his CBR1000. This took place in Cancun.
The Mexican guy on the bike had 2 helmets (one for him and his GF) and keys to the bike. The other guy pulled out keys but they looked like Chevy truck keys (they were long). I think the Mexican guy provided papers for the bike and they drove off on it.
Made me think of this thread.

That's why after 4 Vettes I still don't belong to any Vette clubs. Some of the owners are fun to hang out with but the majority would rather wash and wax and sit around and talk...F that.
I have been to a Vette gathering with my dad. It was full of people like him, older mid age crisis fogeys who know nothing about driving a vette fast and just bought it to cruise around in. It was boring as shit.

Oops missed this one...I don't know about his but mine's never been back to a dealership and the only "fixing" has been to tune or add performance parts.
Hope I didn't just jinx myself and now something on it breaks.
That's because the workers in Bowling Green aren't your typical union workers and the cars are actually made well. IIRC GM selects good workers who aren't union friendly (though they are Union becuase they don't like replacing tires every week) and actually believe in doing good quality work. Mainly becuase they do plant tours and you can't have your typical UAW plant employee in the eye of the public becuase the tour would suck. You would be staring in at them and them staring back at you.

I don't know a car I haven't "hot rodded around in"
I had an 85 for escort that I drifted (i.e. pull up the emergency brake and get sideways) around the tight stuff when I was in high school
Gawd knows what kinda stupid stuff I'd do in a vette :tremble: Prob what Randy does every time he cranks his :rockwoot:
 I hear ya Troy !! In my 99 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 that I had or even the new Jeep Liberty 4x4 that I traded it for...if you're in a sport ute or he11 even a mini van and roll up and want to play...if we're not in a bunch of traffic...it's on !!
I even have a little Dodge Neon SRT-4 :wtfru:  in the garage to play with the 'fast and furious' crowd when needed. The wife actually has fun driving the little car and just like the Vette...it's paid for so it's hard to let it go. :idk:
The VP of Marketing here (who is also my neighbor :lmao: ) has a Z06 Vette....every time I walk past it on my way in to the office it has his golf clubs in the back.
I'm like, dude, come on....loan me the keys for an afternoon....let me at LEAST get the tires and brakes scrubbed in properly for you. He just laughs and says....I didn't buy it to "hot rod around" in.....
That line is so ridiculous that it leaves me speechless every time he says it.
One good thing about the Z06 is that it has more room than people would think so you can put stuff like that in the car. I'm not a golfer so you won't find any golf clubs in mine but you may find an AR-15 or Mossburg Persuader 12 Gauge from time to time...it's cool that stuff will fit in there.
When I bought mine I was on crutches...recovering from a compound fracture and shattered heel and ankle from a motorcycle accident and even the crutches fit in there...behind the seats. The look on people's faces was kinda funny to see me hobble in and out of the car but it worked just fine. :lol
Buying a Z06 "not to hot rod around in" sounds pretty lame to me...maybe he tracks the car ? If not...poor Z06. :wtfru:
I know people and have friends that buy and drive these cars like they were intended for but yep unfortunately there are a lot of Vette owners that have garage queens that they just want to wash and wax and drive slowly on a clear day and be seen in their Corvette...to each their own but that's just not me.
Oh and as I mentioned...this is my 4th Vette but 'back in the day' I've owned 4 Honda CRX's too...great little autocross cars that due to it's shape could make a stereo thump too.

In regards to the buying a car and not using it as intended...there's a guy in town who special ordered a Shelby Mustang...the real deal mind you.
Why was it a special order you ask...? Because it's an effing AUTOMATIC!!!!! He had to special order to GET an AUTOMATIC.
And he doesnt even KNOW what he's got. He had money to blow, and thought it looked cool. Non driving, mechanically retarded dude who just wants it because it LOOKS cool.
I get pissed everytime I see that car driving around town. Usually because I'm PASSING it in my jeep or the hubby's truck, as it's going at or under the speed limit and I am just so angry that it's such a WASTE!
ARGHHHHHHH.
I've known a few of the vette guys who only took theirs to shows. As in, garaged, trailered with a cover everywhere and NEVER saw the road.
I'll just never understand that. Why spend the money on a vehicle you dont plan on using to its capabilities as best you can? If you've got the money to buy it in the first place just to let it sit around, arent chances good you can replace it when you rag it out??

Agree again.
I work for a bunch of high end execs at a major corporation that make big money.
Several of them buy new cars every year or two and usually buy either Porsche, Mercedes, or BMW's. They can afford better but are mostly conservative and stick with these type cars. Not my current boss but my last two...which covers around 20 years or so would roll in with brand new Porsche 911 (993,996,997) Turbo's and only live about 4 miles from the office and NEVER really drive the cars. They also owned Mercedes AMG cars and BMW M cars and again...NEVER really drove the cars !!
Now the good part  They were forever tossing me the keys and asking me to go get their car cleaned up or gassed up (I didn't actually wash the car or pump the gas mind you ) and to take the car for a spin and blow it out a bit.
I've had some great fun...within reason...in some of those fine 500 hp Europeon vehicles.
Sometimes when they were trying to decide which vehicle to buy...the dealership would deliver cars for them and they would ask me to drive them and to give them my opinion.
There's also been a Superformance Cobra replica...a couple of Aston Martin's...a couple of Porsche GT3's and a Ferrari thown in from time to time.
Rough job but somebody had to do it...ahhh...the good old days.
Yep I've been paid to be a golpher but I consider it being a Golden Gopher. :idk:
I can't afford what they can...so I'm stuck with low end cheap interior Z06's and stuff.

That's part of the problem.
example:
Some people see a Mercedes (or enter ANY luxury/sport car..or hell a house/boat..the list is long) as a status symbol...and do everything in their power to get credit approval for one. Despite living in a trailer park, working at Denny’s, when outside of home and work...and strolling down the street, observers don't have a clue this Mercedes driver can't rub 2 nickels together, but at THAT MOMENT in time, THEY are a superstar...or at least they THINK they are. Till it's time for the service on the car, and they freak at a $900 oil change (of course not just oil....other things as well, but roll with me here) so they either don't DO the service, or they offload the car, let it go back...whatever.
The same type example could be used for a supercar. Scrape and save every penny for that Audi A8....but God forbid it get a single scratch, because the budget is already stretched beyond thin to AFFORD that car, much less repair anything that may happen when actually railing it...or hell even buying TIRES for it.
Personally I'd rather buy a cheap bike/car and rail the piss out of it regularly, buying tires when I need to, gear as needed, and having leftover for trackdays and FUN, then sink every dime into a new S1000RR and not have enough at the end of the month to take it anywhere other than sonic

Hmmm.... but I know several people whom won't ride their sport bikes hard on the street either. I don't know, for day to day driving, I don't see a problem with "cruising". I do agree with MP that it is silly to drag your sport car to the Gap to cruise around. Heck, I have a Mustang and I don't "hot rod" it everywhere I go but I do take it out to the back roads once in a while and let it run.

But is their reasoning because they dont want to mess it up? Or because they dont want to kill themselves?
I dont rail on the street on my bike, but mostly because I dont want to kill myself. I'm perfectly happy making the attempt at the track however. As far as not wanting to mess it up, my bike is scratched, has decent high mileage and I firmly believe dirt builds character...
When I had my Mustang GT I drove it like it should be driven, I wasnt afraid to "hot rod" it, I took care of her as required, but I didnt go out of my way to make sure I did the speed limit and baby it, and when a punk in a ricer felt he needed to show out, well, I am perfectly aware of how to use my emergency lights when I school punks.
I agree with the statement on buying something I can easily afford to use it like it deserves and is meant to be used tho, not buying something just to say "look at what I got" and worrying about scratches, dirt, dents, etc.
As much as I love some of the exotics, and at this point in time I could maybe consider getting one, I just dont want to waste money on something I KNOW I am going to want to tear up. Give me a good old GSXR any day, or a base model 4 wheel drive jeep. Eventually I'll get another muscle car, but I want something truly special when I do, and maybe at that point in time I'll understand the "sunday car" mentality.

This is what I also do/meant in my post. I didn't mean to imply that I run balls out everytime I get in the car or on the bike for that matter...that wouldn't even make good sense plus it obviously would rag the car out. I drive it normal...ok cruise in it most of the time...couldn't keep my license if I didn't BUT I'm not afraid to play in it either. Even a 'cruise' can turn in to spirited driving if need be. I keep the maintenance up on it and the bike partially for these very situations.
I just think it's lame if you buy a performance car or bike and NEVER let it perform that's all. :idk:
Oh and these 'high end' guys I described above...I don't mean they're high end because they own an AMG car or a Porsche...these guys live in 10,000 sq. foot homes with another nice home in the mountains...one at the beach...own several of these cars blah...blah...blah.
I just work there...but I know I'm lucky to have my job too.

And I guess with the vette club I saw at the gap store it was their whole better than everyone attitude. I was surprised their ego could fit in this universe. Then the whole "crotch rocket" bashing really pissed me off.
Yes the vette is a bad ass car. I am not a big vette fan but I can respect they are a performance vehicle, etc. and not looking to debate what the best car(s) are or anything. But in the overall picture it's a fucking vette - it's not a ferrari, it's not a gt40, it's not a lambo, etc. The vette, like the mustang, is pretty much a common day sports car. It's affordable to most people whether you are a crack dealer in the hood or a middle class motherfucker in the burbs.
So you are going to put yourself on a pedestal because you own a vette and I, to the best of your knowledge based on little to no facts at that given time, don't or at least I was not in possession of one at that given time? Or perhaps in my motorcycle gear I appeared unworthy to even be in the presence of a vette. Ridiculous.
And obviously you have a fast car and right ahead of you is some optimum roads to let it breathe a bit. So excuse the fuck out of me for "assuming" you might bend the laws a bit as most of the sport bike riders do. And for god sake I apologize for trying to give you a heads up on a cop handing out tickets like candy in an unmarked car.
Next time I will smack the rotten washed up never has been nasty looked cottage cheese ass middle age bitch upside the head and piss in her fucking convertible vette and depending on my diet for the past couple of days I might even defecate on the seat.
Really I didn't care if they were using the vettes for what they were meant for I just really was trying to help fellow enthusiasts out.
Me personally I agree I buy stuff to use it for what it is made for and like someone said in one of the posts above I rail the shit out of everything I own. Not like I can take it with me when I die. It will get use and abuse, period. I am not into show cars or show bikes. I have nothing against it just not my thing.

I don't rail my bike on the streets because it's reckless and endangering myself and others all the time isn't really my thing. And I'd argue that very few people do rail their bikes like they "should be ridden" because last time I checked no one's last name on here is Spies or Rossi. ;)

Agree 100 % The exhaust note is not very impressive at all to me from the Viper. A Vette or even a Mustang sounds much better. Another negative about the Viper is HEAT...it will fry you. My Vette has the performance plus very cold A/C plus an Active Handling System and Traction Control that the Viper doesn't have. It is a badazz car though.

I think the point is why buy a special edition mustang and then drive it under the speed limit? Why not just buy a luxury car or a something more suitable to your driving habits? Like these motherfuckers I know that buy a F350 Heavy Duty truck and then they haul their push lawn mowers in it? WTF? Why in god's name do you need an F350? A fucking Japanese piece of shit truck will easily haul your stupid lawn mower..
But you are right - it's their money and who cares? I don't really it just defies logic, etc.
I was going to respond to Rae Rae but you'll do... The special edition Mustang looks COOL!!!!! That's why! I'm sorry, it's not always, "hey look at me", maybe he just likes the way it looks. The truck thing is the same... I'd rather look at a 2011 F-350 in the driveway than some "Japanese pos"... I love the way my bike looks and I sometimes stare at it for minutes at a time... I doubt I'd feel the same about a Kymco 125 although it would still get me from A-B. Seriously fellas, if we all only bought EXACTLY the bare minimum of what we need, we'd all be driving mopeds and Yugos. I don't even want to contemplate a world like that!!!:panic:

I find that as I get older I have no issues with driving at or even under the speed limit even in a "fast car"
I do, however, pull the f over if I'm in sightseeing mode and there's other traffic around.
