Its so funny to watch people protest, yell, scream, cry and do everything they can to prevent a Mosque from being built (not just at ground zero, all over the country), but I haven't heard nary a whine about this arms deal. We are so easily led you do have to laugh about it.

We don't want Mosques because Muslims are the devil. Not all Muslims are terrorists but, all terrorists are Muslim.

The article won't come up for me but unless it contains new information your title should really read "US about to sell a record arms shipment to place where some of the people responsible for 9-11 were from".

Obama likes catering to Arabs. We need the money, wont suffer from the ancient tech on a battlefield.
Strange tho as the White House was instrumental in blocking South Korean sales of their Korean War era M1 rifle stock pile to private dealers in the US?!
Are our leaders more frightened of their own citizens than foreign powers?

Yea, its all Obama's fault. No Christian God-fearing, white Republican president would ever do something like this.... DOWN WITH OBAMA! LONG LIVE THE TEA-PARTY..
Wait...WTF?!?!?
Bush Announces $20 Billion Arms Deal for Saudis
text size A A A
January 14, 2008
President Bush, on his first visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday, delivered a major arms deal aimed at countering the perceived threat from Iran.
Bush also met with Saudi King Abdullah in talks expected to cover the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
The arms sale, which Congress has 30 days to review, would amount to $20 billion worth of weapons, including precision-guided bombs. It is "a pretty big package, lots of pieces," national security adviser Stephen Hadley told reporters on Air Force One.
The sale is an important part of the U.S. strategy to bolster the defenses of oil-producing Gulf nations, such as Saudi Arabia, against threats from Iran. Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states with majority Sunni Muslim populations, harbor deep suspicions about Shiite Iran.
Earlier, in the United Arab Emirates, Bush told a gathering of entrepreneurs and others that he wanted them to understand that America respects their religion.
"We want to work together for the sake of freedom and peace," he said.
The session was held in a conference room high atop one of Dubai's signature buildings, a luxury hotel shaped like a tall ship sail. The Burj Al Arab occupies its own manmade island.
Dubai has installed one of the world's most comprehensive homeland security and antiterrorism systems. Many antiterror analysts believe the threat of attack by Islamic extremists in Dubai is growing — fueled by the city's image as a bastion of Western-style capitalism and nightlife, its new status as home to the world's tallest building and the frequent port calls by U.S. Navy ships.
Dubai also is caught in the middle of the West's efforts to crack down on business in and out of Iran to protest its nuclear ambitions. Dubai, with a powerful Iranian business community, is eager to maintain its lucrative financial ties with Tehran, but wary of angering the United States and the United Nations.

That was a sarcastic aside. I think both Bush and Obama know from whence the oil floweth. If I was making a half assed redneck foxnews argument I would have said 'See, Obama is a muslim!'

I know.
I was actually about to make a joke about Bush and saw your post.
It is ironic:
All the anti-Bush-ers (and conspiracy theorists) constantly harped on how the Bush family and the royal family were in bed together. Here is a deal 3X's the size of the GW's and I bet we won't hear a peep from those folks. :idk:

Even stranger, I got $500 for a really beat-up M1 made by the most-common factory that built them.......In other words, about as rare as dirt or water. I don't understand the appeal of those pieces of shit.

60 billion huh? Coincidence that Obama is proposing a 50 billion dollar stimulus package that "isn't gonna put us in any more debt."

Those F-15's are definitely not old. They are getting a decent package.
Saudi's military doctrine is based on the premise of "Stall them until the United States rescues us"
We could sell them top of the line EVERYTHING, an aircraft carrier, F22's, German Leopard tanks...a fucking star destroyer and they would get there asses handed to them by Israel, Iran....hell even Italy could kick there ass.

North Korea would put about 100hrs on the airframes then park them because they have no clue on how to maintain a western aircraft. They would never hit a target with them because of the stupid command structure there.
They would mandate that radar be turned off and replaced with photos of their glorious leader who will telepathicly guide them to their targets.
Iran would probably have fun with them. The F-15's would fit right in. They are all about flying flying 5 feet off the deck/ low level attacks (They allegedly have gotten pretty good at low level).Iranians don't focus on dominating airspace. They are not a military that is built for offensives. Their strategy is comeplety defensive. If you fuck with us we will disrupt and annoy...disrupt and annoy.
Argentina would use them for awesome parades flyovers. Thats about 70% of the flight time they would get.

I agree with all points Paul. Korea would have a hard time finding enough skill for a whole squadron, Iran like Iraq would lose all its front line fighters as they sit in their reventments, not wishing to commit them, even in the inappropriate low level support role.. Argentina's tourism bureau would love the fly overs, and your take on Saudi's tactics are spot on.
I do disagree about the F15s age tho, they are pretty potent for an 80s front line interceptor but the composite structure doesnt age well and is why we are phasing them out. We have had several break up mid flight and have grounded them several times.

Are our leaders more frightened of their own citizens than foreign powers?I certainly hope so. That's how it should be.
Saudi is very important to our national interests strategy overseas in that part of the world, without them we would be stuck with just kuwait and manasas as friendly countries. Plus we need their oil or our economy shuts down

You are thinking of the A and C model F15.
The F15E and the model the Saudi's are getting are different animals.

You love to reference McVeigh.
Name 5 Christian terrorists (besides McVeigh) without Googling.
Yes, there are and have been terrorists and evil people in all races and religions.
In the last 100 years, which group would you say has been responsible for the largest number of terror based activities? Which religion has the most followers that are willing to commit these acts in the name of their version of the religion? How about on a per capita basis?
How about the last 50 years? 20? 10? 5?

The Crusaders were terrorists. They deserved the name terrorists. Other Christians that supported, cheered on or condoned the acts of the Crusaders all deserve a bad rap.

I think it is all how you define terrorist and religious or political views are an aside. We have argued it before about how you define terrorist. Is it armed insurgency? Is it someone that preys on soft targets? Guerrilla style tactics verssus organized force.
I just dont think they use F15s, although they would if they had access.
