So Trip, what's it really like man? You run this badass forum that is responsible for all this great discourse, that has spawned numerous friendships, helped people in hard times, and saved countless CF refugees from internet limbo.
You've got to deal with all the crap that comes from open opinion, people you disagree with, and all that. Why do you do it and what do you get out of it personally? I mean, I know what the members get out of it...but all I have to do it click on a favorite and I enjoy all the fruits of your labor without any sacrifice..
I like forums and I like arguments, that's pretty much why I did it. I also like having an owner who will consider all ideas without disappearing for weeks and never give us a straight answer. IE not sell us out to VS without even telling us. I enjoy this place as much as you guys. I appreciate you guys coming here and posting even though I am an asshat.

Anyway, I was checking out TWF for the heck of it and see that site is dead. The ads are all over, there is no traffic and all that work I put into that site wasted. I was going to post a thread and saw this one, so I don't wanna hijack. I was kinda looking forward to coming over here and railing on VS but if y'all still think I'm a POS then fuck that.

You weren't the only one to get fucked by VS and you weren't the sole person I was talking about with that quote. There were several forums I was on that got sniped by those bastards. TWF was and always will be my favorite that was lost to those fuckers though.
I completely understand why you did it. You did what was best for your family, they are more important than us. I can understand that, but it still sucks that we lost that forum to those asshats.

Yeah, they didn't even try to work with us. I talked to the new guy some when they snagged SVRider that took over for the guy that got fired after the mess with TWF and gixxer.com. He is pretty decent. He didn't seem to have any interest in reviving TWF. Just was satisfied with it being a lost cause.

theyre doing ok. We had a Cf 10th reunion rally in PA labor day weekend. They were supposed to come up but couldnt make it. theyre still sorting some stuf fout from the accident. A few of the CF guys still talk to them with some regularity. I think some fo the CF guys may still migrate over since a lot of us are here already, and i see a bunch on FB.
We still use the NY forum on cf to plan rides and gathering sthough so theres some activity just not a lot.

I had heard Rez was bitter over the exodus that took place after the site was sold, but knowing what I know about Rez I had trouble believing it. I just always assumed he was forbidden from joining other forums for a while or something...

I miss the CF days but CF was more about the people than the domain name. There's a similar flavor here and it isn't a bad thing.
We found a "home" after the whole VS thing. For that, I am grateful (though I'd enjoy hearing from Rez and Lorilye at some point).
I briefly toyed with the idea of putting a small local forum together but I could never compete with places like this so I never bothered :lol:
I got out of the mod business when another local forum (unrelated to riding) went under - that was fun while it lasted :lol;

I personally feel most people are crazy. But this one takes the cake!

Our plan was to spend the night so of course I start drinking heavily (is there any other way :lol: ) then in th emidst of the weirdness jay an dchris tell me were leaving so I gotta sober up fast. I followed them out of MD then when they split off on the jersey tpke I hit the first rest stop and went to sleep. This was around 3am, I woke up around noon with a major headache and neck and back pain :lol:

What got me was she made it sound like oh I got a little tipsy and that was it sort of thing.
She gave chris (cbrrider1) a realy hard time saying he was a child molester and stuf flike that because of his sig. She never mentioned or apologized to him about that. I just left it alone since she had an armyof leg humpers at the time. There were several other CF members there as well to confirm that this indeed did happen.

I think there were a few crazy ones in the females only section too. I recall that mv brutale girl kept getting banned and comming back and a snake pliskin who stirred up a lot of shit.

I was actually kind of glad that CF fell down. Not because I wanted to see anything bad happen to the owners or anything, but because I felt the forum had run it's course and needed a new start (whatever that would be).
I was also happy to come over here, even though I'm pretty the invitation certainly wouldn't have been extended at this point in time.
It's nice to meet new people and make new internet friends.
Forums are the same bullshit everywhere though for people being crazy, not being allowed to say anything bad about mods, batshit crazies (Excessa takes the CAKE!), etc.

Rob and Nancy are good peoples. Rob brought me in on the ground floor of CF and made me an admin when it started....and he was very gracious and respectful to me. But I had to step down after I figured out that I took things way too personal to be in a position like that.
To be a site owner or hell even an admin you can't let your personal beliefs, emotions or personal life come into play at all. People tend to see "ADMIN" or "OWNER" and either want to crawl up your ass and be a yes-man or immediately put you in their cross-hairs and take as many snipes at you as they can.
It’s a lot like being a public school teacher. You can’t ever CHOOSE who gets put in your class, and you have to do your best to corral the little bastards, despite some of the trouble makers best efforts to rattle your cage. And just like public school, you can’t take their little smart-ass out into the hall, and smack the shit out of them to make them straighten up. He was saying that he was going to have to stay with it for a while after the buyout as a condition of the sale, and he wouldnt be able to start another forum for a year or some time period like that. Rez was gonna help somebody else that was there, a larger fellow, that everyone except me was familiar with was gonna learn how to set up another forum. Over a few beers at the table during kareoke they were talking that he had reserved a domain name, cafeforums.com or something like that. I was pretty drunk and really dont remember much else except those conversations, and wearing that one girls bra while singing a very bad rendition of kryptonite.

The CF story? A couple of good folks, who own a motorcycle accessories business and a forum, get hit while driving one day by a chode of a drunk driver. While they're taking weeks (months?) to recover from their injuries, their business suffers and the medical bills pile up. Creditors are knocking on the door and ringing the phone off the hook, while said chode ducks the financial responsibility for the mess he created. After trying like hell not to have to do it they ultimately sell the forum to VS, to try and pay some of their bills. They were, are, after all, responsible and good people who don't feel right owing people money.
Due to the mess many of us have seen when VS has taken over other forums, many of us decamp rather than stay and watch our "home" go to shit. Perhaps a self-fulfilling prophecy, perhaps not.

Yup, it's high school all over again. Sucks because it was so close-knit, and I was attending events at least every few weeks. I've made a number of good friends through it, and now sadly after 10 years some shithead mods decided they were done with me so I had to leave. Great job, guys. I'm sure I deserved it.
I post to meet people and make friends. I don't understand people that get off on antagonizing people or ripping on people till they run off. What positive is it bringing to anyone? Don't like someone, don't talk to 'em. No one's paying to sit here and berate people.
I should probably take my own advice and stay out of here before I get kicked out again.
