for anyone interested, they have rescued and adopted out several of the dogs from Michael Vick (the POS). check them out if you're interested in trying to help some deserving dogs. http://www.badrap.org

I'm sure you'll get it. At the shelter I worked at they just did a home visit to make sure it wasn't rat-infested and a quick interview to make sure you knew how to take care of the animal within their ideals. Good luck in any case, she's cute.

Hope you get her and provide her a good home and remain a good responsible owner as well.

I've owned a few Pits in my life and NEVER had an issue with people and only had one issue with one of my Pits and a neighbor's dog that dug under my fence and wanted to be dominant over a male Pit of mine...BAD decision. http://www.twowheelfix.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Luckily for me and my Pit there was a little old lady living next door that saw it all happen and stepped up for me when the owner of the other dog went ballistic and tried to have me charged with maintaining a viscious animal.

Very pretty dog, good luck. A note about adopting, if you happen to feed any kind of "exotic" diet, or do any kind of real training don't mention it to the rescue. I've been denied adoptions twice from Pit Bull rescues for such reasons.

thanks all. i'll let you know as soon as i do. their adoption process seems pretty thorough. they require you to meet the pup a couple times, i think they do a home inspection, and you have to agree to bring the dog in at least 2/month until they feel comfortable.

Kane, what do mean by 'exotic' diet?

He means most anything outside of a normal diet of kibble and scraps..:)

don't mentioned a Raw diet if you use it or plan to......or anything that's not considered pretty normal and commonplace.

interesting. i thought the raw diet was now mostly accepted by people familiar with dogs. but thanks for the heads up.

I've honestly never been around a pit bull. Not once. I'd like to meet a well trained (read, a house pet....not mistreated and used to fight) pit bull though....to judge for myself what their demeanor is really like.

You would think so.

When our dog's groomer heard us mention it, she was shocked!

She kept asking us if it ws safe and how we keep the dog from getting salmonella. :wtfru:

Yup exactly. And if they ask you if you want your Pit to have the ability to guard your house say NO! Act appalled at the thought of a dog protecting your home.

It'd be hard to judge from one dog alone.

I've been around a few. Some I'd trust and some I wouldn't. But I could say the same thing for some other breeds.

It's the same as people thinking all small dogs are yappy. Stupid generalization that isn't always true. My parents have two small dogs that never bark and when they do it's not a yap. And my own pup hardly barks at all and probalby never will. Whereas I know 2 huskies that constantly yap.

Good luck with the rescue. Dogs like this need people like you. :dthumb:

I thought some locations were restricting ownership of PBs?

No restrictions here yet, but they are no longer adopting them out from the Ft. Worth animal shelter. In fact, I think we got one of the last ones. Pretty sure Denver outlawed them.

Shameless plug for my guy

They're not allowed here either. Banned in the province.

thanks. :)

there are a few cities/counties in the US that have bans. some of them also ban all bully-type dogs, including American Bulldogs, so i'm already not allowed to move there. dumbass politicians and their misguided beliefs.

as for guarding the house, that's what my firearms are for. in any case, my AB does a pretty good job at that already. if anyone comes walking down the drive, he goes nuts. it's pretty funny - people are terrified of him, but if i welcome them into the house, he's suddenly a 90 lb lap dog.

cute pup, Kane.

That is amazing....

Vick did the Pit Bull world a favor in that he had the money to pay for those dogs to be rehabilitated, and therefore show the world (or just those with Discovery Channel/Animal Planet) that even viciously treated, fighting Pit Bulls can make excellent pets, companions and even therapy dogs.

Vick's Pits helped a lot of people see that these are just dogs like any other. I've personally rehabilitated a VERY animal aggressive dog (Mastiff/Boxer), its not easy and takes dedication...but it can certainly be done.

They rightfully won't let him adopt vicious animals because he plans on feeding them RAW MEAT (probably throws some gun powder in there too) and baby feet. Plus he most likely goes down there high!
