The owner of the Segway company died in a freak accident on Sunday -- after riding one of the company's trademark two-wheeled scooters off a cliff and into a river.

Jimi Heselden, one of England's richest men and chairman of Hesco Bastion Ltd., was pulled from the River Wharfe in Boston Spa, near Leeds in northern England, local police said.

"Officers were called to the incident around 11:40 a.m. following a call from a member of the public," the West Yorkshire police said in a statement.

I worked with a team that made a fully automated sentry segway for one of my college projects. It could detect explosives, radiation, facial recognition, and curse at people. It was fun to use the campus wifi to drive it around campus and berate people with it. It had a webcam/speaker/mic setup so we could drive it all over campus without leaving the lab.
