My first internet provider was Compuserv on a Dos 3 Ibm clone I used to check weather and some bulletin boards ; took 20 minutes to download the weather radar map from the Nat Weather Srvc.........

Now it takes me longer 'cause my lousy Comcast hookup is down more than up....

LOL. Not a good group to be in. LOL. My numbers don't look good but my internet moves along ok. The only thing I really download would be videos on websites so its not too bad. Everybody always wants it faster but its not bad. Right now I can blame it on my older desktop. Once I find the money to replace this and my laptop I might complain about the internet.

I'm only paying for the cheapest cable internet available, as you can clearly tell.

In my case, it's the only Internet available. Windstream DSL is my only option and the lines won't take anything faster. The good news? I'm the only one on that hub so I never have to worry about peak usage times.

Rangerscott

I'm 10.5 up & 1 down.

It's funny. If you get just cable internet you get 20mb down, but if you add anything (phone,tv) you only get 10 down.

Pretty crappy - got worse when I changed browsers too - this one was with Chrome, it was a little less with Mozilla, and half this with IE.

If you take that number and divide it by 8 that will give you what speed you will download stuff at. Most people are used to seeing in MB/s not mb/s.

MB - Megabytes
mb - megabits.

8 bits to a byte.

So your download speed is about 2.5MB/s at MAX. Not a bad speed. Question is, do you know what speed you're paying for?
