View Full Version : AT&T to collapse in early 2011
http://www.tipb.com/2010/10/06/wsj-apple-making-verizoncompatible-iphone-years-newly-designed-iphone-5-2011/
This rumor is looking pretty true by all sources. Moreso than recent ones.
None other than the Wall Street Journal, and the notoriously well-informed Yukari Iwatani Kane, is saying Apple will have a Verizon-compatible iPhone ready by the end of 2010, which means if a deal can be worked out, Verizon could be carrying it by early 2011 (as numerous previous rumors have suggested).
The new iPhone would be similar in design to the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc. but would be based on an alternative wireless technology called CDMA used by Verizon, these people said. The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people.
Kane also says “people briefed on the matter” reveal Apple is working on a new form factor for iPhone 5, which would almost certainly be revealed at WWDC 2011 in June. Whether or not this is a new antenna design isn’t said, but it isn’t hard to imagine either.
Neither Apple nor Verizon would comment, so we’ll leave that to you!

And why would allowing the Iphone to go to another carrier cause AT&T to collapse? They had plenty of clients before the iphone, plenty now who dont have an iphone and plenty that will use them after the iphone is allowed elsewhere...

It's a joke, because plenty of morons swapped carriers to get the iphone and absolutely hate AT&T, but had to have the fashion item known as iphone. They will immediately leave AT&T for Verizon if the iphone is there.

Oh. ha ha.
Honestly, I know folks hate AT&T, but in the 2 years I've had them, I've had zero complaints. I had verizon, I've had sprint, and tmobile and AT&T is the only one I haven't had any complaints with.

Just depends on where you spend most of your time. I can't use AT&T 90% of the places I go, much less have 3G. If you just spend your time in populated areas, you wouldn't have anything to complain about.
Also, 4G is coming out soon, god knows how long it will be before AT&T can get that anywhere near me.

Honestly, I don't think the iphone is going to be much of a factor a year from now, even after ipone5. Recent sales data shows Android gaining massive market share very quickly. The iphone became hugely popular because it was a fashion statement or a status symbol, but that effect is wearing off and people are starting to figure out that both Android and BB are better platforms for actual use.
The iTards will still be faithful, but there are less of those lately.

AT&T is great for me, other than i have no service in my house.

I don't think so, I think they will shoot up in market share when iphone comes to Verizon. As many people that left Verizon for iphone are simply waiting with other phones on Verizon for it to come to Verizon. A lot of morons who can't figure out BB and Android will flock to iphone. Talking about dumb ass soccer moms and other assorted trophy women with no brains along with the Yes Men of the world. Walk into a Verizon store in the rich part of town. You will see the workers spending hours trying to teach these people how to use their phones. It's fucking hilarious.

I thought Sprint wasn't using LTE, and that their tech is incompatible.

Speed, connectivity, and stability. Better in pretty much every way.
It's too bad Sprint has such a crappy network and phone selection; their plans are awesome.
This is hilarious
Microsoft last week sued Motorola, alleging its Android phones violate Microsoft patents. Similarly, Apple has sued HTC over its Android phones, and Oracle has sued Google, and this week Motorola has decided to sue Apple for several patent infringements.
This is all over patent infringement.

unless you are getting the EVO 4G or the Galaxy S phone, it won't matter to you. You will still be 3G. Thos are the only 4G phone that I know about right now.

I'm going with the EVO. I did mess with the Epic a couple weeks ago, it was nice, but I don't want a slide out key board.

I know for sure the Epic's camera is a lot better than the EVO's when I tried both out. That's about all I know. But I hear ya on the slide-out keyboard, personally I don't think they make typing any faster, and they make phones feel squeaky & cheap.

Exactly, I don't like them. My shitty phone now has one.
I like HTC sense better than samsungs ui as well.

Its probably easier and cheaper to win a large judgment than to actually design, build, and sell phones people want to buy.

Word.
I love the slide out keyboard on the wife's Droid. I'm not your typical smart phone user (read: I'm techTarded) and I prefer to feel the keys.
Besides, the four-way-mouse thing makes it far easier for me to clink links than the touch screen.

Yup that's exactly it.... I've had AT&T since 2001 (back when it was Cingular) and never had a single complaint... always had good service and never a problem. Then I moved to the mountains here in NC, and I barely have any service period. I have ZERO service at my house and the surrounding 10 mile radius or so, and unless I'm right in or close to a town or an interstate, I have no service. And 3G service... good luck!
