im spoiled, im used to riding with ppl that are faster then me or just as fast. ie trip and his friends, osp, to a point nighthawk and gramps, i love riding with pc its a chill moment. but since i moved to this area, let me preface this i am not fast, dont think i am in the least, ppl that i ride with are behind me, we stop they catch up and are like damn, your smooth, quick and controlled. i have no problem helping out new riders or ppl that are still in the learning stage, but speed is all relative. i miss following someone else and learning there lines, now i have ppl trying to follow me and i hope that my lines are proper and that im not teaching someone bad habits. there is a local guy that is supposed to be fast and i hope to meet up with him and see what the fuss is about with him, in short words.... god damn i miss riding with osp and trip:sorry:

Tell them you'll follow them and give them tips after, if you want to help them. As far as you being equal to or the fastest guy on rides, go to the track! I guarantee you won't be the fastest. And what I do when a faster guy passes me is follow them for as long as I can and copy their lines. I did this last track day, I couldn't get turn 5's line down for shit all day, until I followed a faster guy and copied him. Not only did I get the line down, I also cut a personal best. Head to the track, Drewps, you'll fucking love it. And save the lack of money stories. I know you just graduated and have ill student loans to pay.

If I remember right, early registration (5 days out) is $235 for the orientation school (what I'm doing monday, required if no track experience) late reg is $255
Regular track day is $165 early or $185 late.
NO REFUNDS, run it in the rain...

Not sure which i'm going to, but if you wanna go to one or both, I think I could make that happen.

one day.
August is a monday, sept is a thursday (wierd) they are usually on mondays.
Need to be there NLT 0700 day of.

fees for the orientation school do include lunch and snacks.

And they usually have tire vendors there, if you need new rubber after your trip.
It's all self tech inspection, but they say 50% or greater tread, and no flat spots.

06-10-2008, 06:01 PM

your current tires are good NOW, but you've got a few thousand miles of riding between now and then. Plus, strada's may not be the best for the track.

I know Darren, a tire guy that's usually there, sells race take offs for $50 m/b, if you bring him the wheels. He'll even put your street rubber back on at the end of the day!

Ebbs, you'll have the money and you don't need take-offs. Buy some new Pilot Power 2CT's. They heat up quick and they double for an awesome street tire, too. And you're not going to burn through them at your first track day at all. Not even close. You can thank me later.

There SHOULD be a Micheline, Bridgestone, and Dunlop tire reps at the TD

The only good Dunlop and Bridgestone tires are their DOT race tires. Well, the Dunlop Qualifyers are pretty good, too. You should look into those too, Ebbs. But Michelin has a good DOT race tire in the Pilot Race and an excellent street/track tire in the 2CT. The Dunlop 208GP or 209GP is suppose to be tits. I might try it next.

You should be able to save a bit of cash by buying at the track.

I wouldn't ride race takeoffs unless you got tire warmers, it's better to just get a set of powers or some shit. Especially being noob to track dayz you might not even be able to heat up takeoffs.

I don't know if the people are faster than me, but 90 percent of the time their bikes are a lot faster than mine.

Earlier this year I raced a TL1000R down Lookout Mountain. Horsepower don't matter much going downhill. On the switchbacks, he went into the opposite lane to shave the corner. Super unsafe and I hate it. I stayed in my lane and kept up with him all the way down. And we went very fast. At the bottom, I pulled up next to him. He gave me a thumbs up when he saw me on my old GS1000.

Tire vendors at the track is where they come from
Most of these guys are just getting started and are just a bit beyond normal track days.
Generally they are qualifyers or whatever the bridgestone equivalant is, as bridgestone and dunlop are track sponsors.

I get challenged at stoplights and on twisty roads quite often (and I challenge others too). Both by hot cars and hot bikes. Depending on location and traffic conditions, I usually accept. I can't be the only one this happens to. In the late 80's, I raced a GSX-R1100 that had a wheelie bar. At least I was able to quickly turn off the road after he blew my doors off, because he couldn't. But at my age, I take any race I can.

Me and a friend on a 1000rr were riding the other day. We pulled up to the stoplight and just revved a little bit joking around. Next thing we know, the two cars in front of us (late 80s civic type shit) were revvin hard and raced once the light turned green.

Yeah, I was riding down here with 2 guys on R1's and we pulled up to a light next to an older Taurus. Light turned green and he stomped on it, sqwaked the tires a bit... without trying we still beat him to the next light, laughing our asses off the whole way!

The last time I raced anyone was with my old 500R... At a stoplight, some joker pulls up in a TSI, revs it, I nod, he takes off and I sit there... He gets half a block away, I dump the clutch, catch and pass him before the next light. We get caught at the third light and I smoked him from the start... Something about being able to ride your bike and not being able to drive his car.
