Erik and I went to watch last night. It wasn't what we were expecting but looks like fun. Drawback (or plus) is that if I want to do it, I need to purchase a new gun.

Any one here do IDPA?

I enjoy target shooting, but I have to admit, I've never heard of them before this thread; I had to Google IDPA. :lol

I've given it consideration, but I doubt I'm good enough to be competitive right now. I do go to the range about once a week though, but I'd imagine that's nowhere near enough practice to do well in IDPA.

ANybody can do IDPA!!!!!I shoot stock revolver and modified with my stock Python and have a great time!! I have a racegun (a slicked up Star PD) but I have more fun with the Python.
You don't need nothin' special to play...just a willingness to learn!!!

From what I saw last night, you'd be fine. Hell, I'm considering it!

Never heard of it, but interesting.

Might have to look into it.

I guess too many gun related hobbies isnt all that bad. Sporting Clays is my big addiction at the moment.

i didn't see the bad part of partaking. LOL new gun is always good. going to look this weekend myself at a couple new toys.

I have never heard of any of these events in our area. may have to look around, it looks like fun.

The bad part is that I've been wanting a new one, just no extra cash for one.

Depending on whether you are shooting PPC or IDPA, a race gun is a gun modified for speed, both in shooting and reloading:

low oz/adjustable travel triggers/sears, throated magwells, peened rails, lightweight hammers, special barrels, compensators, optics..yadayadayada..

the guns are matched to the loads, the load has to carry a heavy enough bullet at a high enough speed to produce enough recoil to be classified as legal in the catagory you are shooting, otherwise you'd have guys shooting walloping 357 or 45 rounds shooting against guys with wimped out barely-squib loads with no recoil.

This is a race gun (revolver).

I like that sharpshooter show that features alot of this kind of thing. I doubt I could ever do it, but it would be fun to try!

And a 22 pistol to play with, I havent found a handgun I wanted enough to spend money on. I can always just use of the hubby's.

BS is too crazy to have a shoot out with tho, he'd probably cheat.

How is this even possible?

The guys the other night were shooting at 30 seconds or so but it was a staged setting (ie. a box is standing on end to represent an ATM where you are standing, then there are a trees where bad guys are behind along with hostages). Not just target right in front of you like this clip. Pretty cool though.

I wouldn't cheat, I would just use tactics. You bring your shotgun, I'll bring my AR. We will have a shoot out 500 meters out.

Definitely looks like fun I would be up for trying something like that. I must admit; paintball would still be more appealing. I prefer to hear my friends scream when I shoot them!

This is cool and all, but it doesn't represent situations like what I saw the other night. They didn't shoot all that fast where I was at, but you really couldn't since you had to move around things. All in all both settings are pretty cool though.

You'll like this lady, then:

This is an offshoot, the Double Tap Championships...every target gets two fast rounds (the Double Tap), even two falling plates and two stop plates...lotsa shootin' and movin'

That is more like what I watched but they had cut outs with hand prints. These signified hostages so you didn't want to hit them. They were placed in front of the "bad guy" cutouts. If you did hit a "hostage" then you got seconds tacked on to your finish time.
