Purchasing an extra phone #

My husband is on a ship somewhere in the Indian Ocean and he can make calls to only one area code. I don't have a phone # with that area code.

I know you can get one through Google Voice, but they don't have any available for that area code right now. I asked my service provider and I got a very simple: We don't do that.

Anyone know how else I could get one? The other option is him using a calling card or if I bought a cricket phone or something like that. I'd rather not do either. Any suggestions are appreciated. :D

Cheap prepaid cell in the area code you want.

VOIP. Check with Skype, VoipYourLife, and Magic Jack for starters. Any of the above should let you pick your area code, but whether or not that one is available is going to be hit-or-miss.
