I live in a townhouse complex. There are a lot of kids in the neighbourhood. I just came home from work to find a note in my mailbox, from the property manager stating, "Your children are not permitted to Trick or Treat." It says that candy will be given out at the management office, which is about three blocks away, and any donations can be made there before Sunday.
And these fuckers think that their "...are not permitted..." counts for shit?
again, fuck organised non stand alone housing
I dont see how they can stop people from "visiting" other people.

They can't stop shit. An apartment building might be one thing, and that's where the management office that they're talking about is, but townhouses are something else all together.
I'm considering sending a copy of their note to the local newspaper. They're always looking for a good story.

Do it. Embarrass the fucking pricks. The nerve of people who like to tell others what to do...
Now, get on that right away, motherfucker!

Only thing I could think of is it could be considered soliciting.
Some cities have been banning over 12 year olds from trick or treating. I can kinda agree with that. Punks should be out getting drunk and causing mayhem, not scaring little old ladies giving out candy to actual kids.

is there an association? did you sign anything when you got the house saying that you would abide by association rules? They cant stop anyone from visiting friends on halloween in costume, but they might be able to forbide begging for food, which is soliciting, Especially if they get enough complaints

My sister, who lives across the street and received the same note, is probably going to take it to a local TV station that's known for running sensationalist stories. I can see it now: PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY HATES KIDS!

I got a note from one of my very religious neighbors saying his kids will be by my house on Saturday to trick or treat, since they aren't allowed to do it on Sunday. :td:

Send him a note telling him that on Saturday you usually have "full nudity day" at home, and that this would perhaps be an inappropriate time.

Most of the people I know who has lived in a townhome or apartment with kids just drops the kids off at a subdivision anyway. There are usually better pickings when dealing with single family homes. That doesn't change the fact that this is ridiculous though and I would still have candy anyway just in case.

It's pretty common around here for them to switch Halloween to the 30th when Halloween is on a Sunday around here. I liked that better cause no school when I was younger and cared about Halloween.

or perhaps ask why he allows his children to celebrate at all?

Research the history of halloween, trick or treating has some origins in something I can't talk about in off topic.

It was incorporated from other things that you can't talk about, to make the thing that you can't talk about more acceptable to people that they wanted to get into the thing that you can't talk about.

There are many examples of where we could of gotten it from, we don't exactly know where it came from. One could be from us covering up another something we can't talk about it. So it could be not trying to incorporate something, but to eliminate something.

12 years are already doing it.
Somewhat, Halloween the word originates from your something we can't talk about. It has origins in both.

While I'm all for lighting the torches and getting out the pitchforks (including me calling it ridiculous) has anyone actually spoken to the management company about the reasoning behind this?

Fuck that, who wants the whole story? I day ewer start up a class action lawsuit then go through their corporate office rape all their women, pillage their 8x11 paper stocks, and then throw in those other pussy christian kids who aren't allowed to trick or treat on sunday because all the bigger kids steal their candy and touch them in the bad place.
Its also possible that the management company is hiding zoey in an apartment and doesnt want her to be found

That's more dumb than issuing the demand letter.
When I lived in a condo - they gave out magnets that could be stuck to the outside of your metal front door. These said "not participating" for people that didn't want to open the door for trick-or-treaters.
That way, kids can go trick-or-treating and people that don't want to play aren't bothered.

You'd better stop making sense....don't you know we (and apparently our neighbors in the GWN) live in a hyper sensitive, it's all about ME society? You start taking away people's reasons for flying off the fucking handle into intolerable levels of being offended and there will be problems. :lmao:
I'm with you....don't want to participate? Leave the porch light off....put a sign on your door. Easy...why try to force your desire not to participate on everyone else?!

When we turn off our light - we would yell with the door closed when people that still ring the bell. "Lights are off, we're not playing"

yeah lights off doesnt work. I had every light off in the house and it look completely empty from the street and the fuckers would still ring it.
If it's a gated community, I wouldn't expect kids to trick or treat and would agree with the note. You live in a gated community to have privacy and security. Trick or treating invites people from outside the community to come in.

People still trick or treat in America? Seems like most people don't even know their neighbors names these days. They just pull into their garage and shut themselves in for the entire night. Not to mention most neighborhoods don't even have sidewalks these days, because they are a "new sprawl" development that wasn't designed for that.

Most in America want to feel like they are in a small town, therefore behave how they think people in small towns would behave [a la picket fences]. It's like weekend warrior riders behaving like outlaws because they THINK actual riders behave that way.
They don't have sidewalks in SF? That's weird.

Actually WE don't need to put up any signs. Lights off and no decorations? The kids just pass right on by. As far as I can tell this isn't about anyone complaining. It's about a company thinking that it can dictate social policy.

I don't disagree with you at all....that is exactly the point I am making. I don't understand why the company feels like they must get involved in making a decision that affects the entire community rather than allowing the individuals living in that community to make a decision for themselves as to whether or not they will participate in trick or treating. :idk:

Yeah, in the city there's sidewalks..........I'm talking about suburbs though. Seems like most suburbs these days (all over the country) don't have sidewalks anymore. I am talking about the newer suburbs/developments that were created in the last 20 years.

Piss in their mailbox.
My neighborhood has sidewalks and it's only 5 years old. Where I grew up, it didn't have sidewalks. Seems like there was a time gap that some subdivisions didn't get em, but they are becoming more common again around here. I think people realized it sucked without them.

Agreed, there was a huge gap in the popularity of sidewalks, but ive def seen them more and more in new developments
I am glad they didn't stick a event house/pool in my neighborhood. I hate paying for something I never use. They had that shit in my parents. They had to pay into it for upkeep through their HOA.

I agreed to participate with his kids, as long as mine can go to his house Sunday night. He agreed, so it all works out.
You think it's too late to tell him I was dressing up as zombie Jeebus?
