Its more of a realistic look at a zombie outbreak and a look at how people would deal with it in a more realistic way. I kept getting asked about things like, why not get an armored truck or why doesnt he drive that tank and shoot them all with the machine gun, my answer was...He probably doesnt know how, like me or most people I know. I like it, I have been looking forward to this, now really jacked about the supposed World War Z movie in pre-production.

It was pretty bad ass, but one really stupid nit picky thing stuck out to me. None of the grass was long. He was out for at least a few days, and I got the impression it was closer to 2 weeks, but all the grass was freshly cut. Not sure why that stuck out but it did.

With how single-minded some of the people I've seen in the south are about their lawns, there are probably more than a few zombies out there with push mowers.

As far as the grass goes... We haven't gotten ANY rain in weeks down here... My lawn looks freshly cut because it hasn't grown at all... I mowed it 2.5 weeks ago.

In many instances this is due to the coordination of the set and production designer wanting to keep scenes consistent between large periods of time that may elapse between shooting scenes All grass kept short means consistency and less detail to keep in track during these lapses -budget restrictions perhaps

There has to be a certain "suspension of disbelief." If not, then you can toss out half of the season, as the heroes won't need to figure out things like shoot them in the head, break into a martial arts store and get some swords, and that chainsaws do wonders in taking out the undead.
You'd end up going straight to the bloodbath.

Maybe it's an "intelligent" show, where they assume that they don't have to tell the audience what they already know? For all we know, Sheriff Andy of Mayberry might be constantly thinking, "How the hell did the Zombie Apocalypse happen, without me being able to get to my stash?"

On January 21, 2010 AMC announced that a pilot was ordered for the show,[12] which will begin filming on 15 May 2010.[13] Cast members include Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Sarah Wayne Callies as Lori[14], Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes[15], Jon Bernthal as Shane Walsh, Steven Yeun as Glenn, Laurie Holden as Andrea, IronE Singleton as T-Dog[citation needed], and Jeffrey DeMunn as Dale.[16] Six episodes have been ordered as part of the first season.[17] [18] Greg Nicotero worked on the special and make-up effects.[19]

On topic, I liked the episode. I thought I was done with zombie shit, but this one has my interest.
Well, it was a total monster mash last night. The Halloween premiere of AMC's new zombie series The Walking Dead brutally devoured 5.3m viewers, the highest cable debut of the year. So does this mean that many of us identify with the survivors, with the people who live in exile from the witless hordes, or are we recognizing something in ourselves in those very witless hordes? I suspect it's actually something in the middle. We're the trees and crows and whatnot, watching the battle play out. [THR]

I said it before, I'll say it again...
Besides us zombie nuts, who the hell is really going to believe that a corpse can get up and start attacking people?
Cops have to deal with people on drugs and in various states of mental and physical distress that can produce similar behavior, so his first thought probably isn't going to be "zombie".
Now, admittedly, after he saw the badly decayed torso chick crawling on the ground, he should have gotten the fucking clue. :lol:
His only defense there is, he's been drug-addled and unconscious for a month or more and he was probably doubting his own sanity.
Case in point, the scene where he's on the floor of his house staring at his hand asking "Is this real?"
Lets consider however the shock the poor dude would be in, who gives a crap HOW it happened, all he wants to do is find his wife and son. And survive. Lets not forget that.

So a highly trained cop that should be prepared for situations such as this does nothing to question his environment and just bumbles his way along.

That talk Rick and his partner were having just before the car chase and shooting incident kind of led me to believe that his wife was already halfway out the door.
I couldn't tell if Shane was already involved with her and was probing to see if Rick was onto him, or if he was just sort of taking in what Rick was saying and realizing a possible opportunity.

Yeah, this is based off a comic book that's several years old.
For those that like more info, the bite causes an infection and kills a person and reanimates them. You can get bit and then cut off the part you got bit on and not become a zombie.
The zombies can be wanderers or stationary. The wanderers wander around and chase food. They will chase forever. The zombies will react to other zombies and form packs because they think the other ones are chasing food. The statinonary ones will wait for food to come near them and react.

Does the comic ever state how it started, though? Was it a man-made pathogen that was released? Was it a natural mutated-bug? etc.

They just need a nervous system. They will keep going as far as I know. They haven't found a cure to date and ended up fighting with a lot of other survivors.
Some of the characters take out the teeth of zombies (neutralizing their turn people into zombie powers) and keep them around. This one girl kept an ex boyfriend and a friend on a chain that way. She said they stopped attacking after awhile.

Pretty standard zombie fare.
In the comic book, it was not a predating the event affair. She only did it after and gets prego from it. She has the kid and eventually ends up dying from an attack by another group of survivors that have gone crazy. Rick ends up talking to her on the phone after her death, it's kinda weird.

They become animated skeletons.
Another thing is Shane is killed by Rick's son and they bury him. Never been bitten by a zombie. Rick digs him up later and finds out he has been zombified without infection. So there is something more to the zombifiying.

Okay, why does Rick's son kill Shane? I gotta know.
Okay, why does Rick's son kill Shane? I gotta know.
Lori and Shane don't tell Rick they shagged. Eventually Lori starts siding with Rick and goes against Shane and tells Shane that he should knock off any attachment he has to her and that it was completely a mistake because she was an emotional wreck and she loves her husband. Shane goes insane and goes into the woods. Rick follows him not knowing the whole story. Shane hints he banged Lori and points a gun at Rick and about to shoot him. Carl followed, and he isn't not happy to see someone kill his father and plugs him through the neck.
I am changing the title to spoilers

This has always been my "why I hate zombie movies" pet peeve. It is also my, "why I hate animated cords, sticks, rocks, etc movies". Was just given a second season of 12 episodes
There's plenty more shambling to be had — Frank Darabont's TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman's end-of-the-world zombie comic has been picked up for a second season! That's not all, the new season will have a total of 13 gore-filled episodes.
Here's the full press release from AMC:
(New York, NY - November 8, 2010) AMC announced today the renewal of "The Walking Dead" for a 13-episode second season. Since debuting Sunday, October 31, "The Walking Dead" has broken ratings records, with the series reaching more Adults 18-49 than any other show in the history of cable television.
Today's announcement also includes Fox International Channels' (FIC) global renewal for a second season, following record-breaking premiere ratings in 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. "The Walking Dead" was the highest-rated original series premiere ever to air on FIC simultaneously worldwide.
"The 'Dead' has spread!" said Charlie Collier, President, AMC. "No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as 'The Walking Dead.' This reaffirms viewers' hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back 'The Dead' again, across the globe."
Ratings Highlights for The Walking Dead - Episode 2, which premiered on AMC Sunday, 11/7:
* 10pm airing - 3.1 HH rating with over 4.7 million viewers;
* Adults 18-49 - 3.3 million viewers;
* Adults 25-54 - 2.8 million viewers;
* Men 18-49 - 2.1 million viewers.
Ratings Highlights for the The Walking Dead - Episode 1, which premiered on AMC Sunday, 10/31:
* 10pm airing - 3.7 HH rating with over 5.3 million total viewers;
* Adults 18-49 - 3.6 million viewers;
* Adults 25-54 - 3.1 million viewers;
* Men 18-49 - 2.0 million viewers;
"I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one," said Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP Scripted Programming. "'The Walking Dead' is a TV masterpiece on so many levels. We want at least 10 seasons, if not more. Kudos to AMC!"
AMC's "The Walking Dead" is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion and Charles "Chic" Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) serve as Executive Producers.
"The Walking Dead" tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The comic goes on to explore the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies who take a toll on the survivors, and sometimes the interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the zombies that roam the country. Over time, the characters are changed by the constant exposure to death and some grow willing to do anything to survive.
Shot on location in Atlanta, "The Walking Dead" is led by a cast that includes Lincoln ("Teachers," Love Actually) as Rick Grimes, Jon Bernthal ("The Pacific," The Ghost Writer) as Shane Walsh, Sarah Wayne Callies ("Prison Break") as Lori Grimes, Laurie Holden ("The Shield," Stephen King's The Mist) as Andrea, Jeffrey DeMunn (Stephen King's The Mist, The Green Mile) as Dale, Steven Yeun ("The Big Bang Theory") as Glen, Emma Bell (The Bedford Diaries) as Amy and Chandler Riggs (Get Low) as Carl Grimes.

Thats never going to happen. The story is never really about the infection and how it happened, or trying to solve it, it's about surviving the end of the world. The outbreak could have been any disaster, but zombies make for some cool bloodshedding moments

Because that hack saw blade would go dull after a few strokes. Hed have a better chance on that rusted threaded rod holding those a/c vents.

first 5 minutes, surprised they could show this much on TV
That's America's Puritan value system at work.........It's OK to give nightmares to kids with lots of gore, and to glorify gangsters and thugs, but if you show a nipple or an ass-crack, the governmennt comes knocking on your door.
but show a nipple or an ass-crack and all the old farts start bitching & moaning.

You know what I'm talking about dude. You pay for it, so there are different rules versus stuff that is broadcasted over the air.

Yes, but this isn't a network show, so what network can do doesn't matter in this thread. AMC can get away with a bunch of shit.

watched the first 3 episodes on amazon, a litlte slow moving in some spots but def entertaining.
If it stays true to the comic book, it's going to be slow moving. The zombies are just a prop to progress the apocalypse storyline. It's more to do with survival and how survivors react with one another including battles between different factions. The zombies are just a way for them to get there. It's not some fancy virus, there isn't going to be zombie animals, they don't mutitate to something bigger or boss zombies. They just rot.

The zombie part seems more interesting though, I am curious to see if there is still some sort of govt camp or just pockets of survivors hanging on.

There is a bunch of different type of pockets, they are currently trying to go towards Washington DC.
They lived in a prison for awhile til a war with another group of survivors made it unsecurable. They lived in another small town for a bit.
So it's LOST with some zombs?
yeah from the aspect of it's more to do with character development instead of secrets and mythology.

That is a waste of valuable dynamite. Fly fishing is a good way to have fun and eat. If I just want to eat I will make a netting machine.

I think it's because of all of the possibility in what people would do and how they would handle situations. It's entertaining to hear people's thoughts on it (both serious and comical).

Exactly, it's just the current incarnation of the hypothetical "what would you do" scenario.
During the Cold War, it was "if there was a nuclear war and you survived", and before then it was "if you were stranded on a desert island".
Those two still pop up occasionally but the zombie scenario is, not surprisingly, the most popular.
I could go into the reasons, but I think we've already adequately covered that. :wink:

Because with the Zombie apocolypse scenario, it's quite possible a survivor would get the chance to shoot their boss in the face and it would be perfectly acceptable. :lol

They played the opposite scenario in the walking dead. A guys wife became a zombie and he couldnt bring himself to shoot her when she was out with the rest of them

they can always add more, find more pockets of people hiding out in the woods or the city. I do loke how they set this in a southern area so they dont have to realy deal with winter. Not sure how zombies do in the snow ;)

It wasnt a disease. Its something in everyone that activated. The origin is not a concern for the comics. Its more about character development.
