Yesterday I winterized the Nightster and today I got it cleaned/covered and tucked away. And you can see that the HHRSS fits in the garage very well.

I have been riding all week to work on night shift. But tonights 36* out (going lower later) really shows not only in my breathe, but in the exhaust and frost on my seat.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/SU1HMDAwMzktMjAxMDExMDItMjMwMC5qcGc.jpg
Plus I have had the wife, mom, and neighbor wife all tell me I'm crazy for riding in this. But I figure screw it, it will be snowing soon, might as well get in some of the final miles in 2010.
What's your reminder?

I also have been riding. However, the only that gets cold is the outside of my fingers. I would like to get some heated gloves. Any suggestions? I have seen some but they mostly have the heating element in the palm of the hand and not over the back of the hand where its really needed to stop the chill of the wind from penetrating in.

I've got heated gear. I ride all year as long as there isn't ice/snow on the roads.

go visit derf and steal his one glove. rip it in half and use it as an extra outer layer for your current gloves. should be good for at least another week.

as for my winterizing. i did the boat, the lawnmowers and the VW bug so far. probably do her bike in the next week then it's just mine left to do. tucking everything away in the garage and sitting around the fire waiting for spring.

Put some latex or nitrile gloves on first under your riding gloves. Get back with me.

For me, the reminder is usually the Toys for Tots toy run....held the first Sunday of November every year. The last couple of years we've been lucky to have outstanding weather for the ride so it hasn't really felt like winter. The forecast is for it to be sunny and 70F this Sunday too....should be a good time. :dthumb:

My reminder (and one that GM hates) is that its too cold for 'pretty pajamas' so out comes the fleece. I love the fleece and flannel!

That's pretty much Texas winter. Once the road dries, we can go back to regularly scheduled riding...

The VFR is in pieces right now. :td:
Cold in the morn, but hits 70's in the afternoon. I don't hate riding in the cold. I hate having to cloth up for it.
This is what I left in this morning, pretty damn cold on the way north. But when I left CT it was close to 50, then dropped back down to the 40s as night came in and I got to NJ and MD. Then 15 miles from home it started pouring in the upper 30's.

I think I'm the one person where that doesn't work. I tried once and my hands actually hurt by the time I got where I was going.

I have a small, thin pair of leather gloves that work wonders, but really, any extra layer that doesnt easily pass air will do.

pffft - that thing probably has heated everything
Rather than using nitril glove liners, use silk liners (like these http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/37/796/ITEM/Tour-Master-Silk-Glove-Liner.aspx) theyll keep your hands comfy for another 10-20 degree drop.
I also have a pair of rechargeable battery powered heated gloves I bought at a MC show a few years ago. They have a rechargeable battery pack on the back of the wrist, are waterproof and insulated. They'll keep hot for about 3-4 hours; but I only turn them on when my hands start getting really cold and then turn them off again, so if I husband the charge, I can get a full day's ride out of them in decent comfort.
And there is always: derf, you can borrow one of mine.....http://burgmanriders.com/wp-content/forumpicuploads/HippoHands_Vetter.jpg

keep in mind I live in Wis, where annual snowfall is measured in feet I think. we had a guy from Germany down the road. he never in his life owned a car. only thing he ever drove was an old school BMW motorcycle. no heated anything on it. when cars were getting stuck on the highway and what not you'd see him come tooling up to the grocery store to stock up for the next storm. he rode in heavy snowstorms, ice, you name it.
i tried it one year here, I have no idea how he did it for his whole life. funny almost everyone around here who rode at the time knew of him. he passed away a few years back but people still talk about him.

Hehe, actually I rode from my parents house in jersey to Portland CT, then back down home in MD, and I did buy a new set of waterproof winter gloves to replace my missing one.
