Same here. My little cat who I adopted (stray) and nursed to health jumped out of my car at the vet's today and ran into the woods.. I made posters and set some traps and looked for a long time, but no luck yet. :(

That's tough... at least he/she should have some skills hunting/defense that comes with the experience of being a stray.

Yeah, I know he can do ok outside, I just hope he avoids the busy 4 lane right next to the shelter and it's starting to get cold here in the mountains at night. Hopefully he turns up in one of the traps soon. I've had a him for a few months now and was planning making him an inside only cat after I got him back from the vet.

Cats generally won't move more than a few houses away (it's actually rare to have any "homing" instinct, and try and navigate back home).

Go back, and look where it escaped. Bring food, treats, etc.

The traps out there all have wet cat food in them, so I'm hoping he crawls into one of those. I went back 3 times today, I'll go back again tomorrow.

I went back this morning and saw the place had gotten all of the traps up and I went in and asked and they said they'd moved them deeper into the woods. So I went down in there and called his name and he meowed at me, it was a pretty awesome feeling. Ran up into the woods and saw he'd gotten caught in one of the traps, so he's back at home now.

Lasers are gay for kittens. Maybe a 10GA would suffice. Though when it comes to maintaining the stray cat population I have my own preferences.
