If you think that me allowing my son to be a female character for Halloween is somehow going to ‘make’ him gay then you are an idiot. Firstly, what a ridiculous concept. Secondly, if my son is gay, OK. I will love him no less. Thirdly, I am not worried that your son will grow up to be an actual ninja so back off.
Bravo!

That link froze up my IE.
Yeh while I can understand her reason #9, I really disagree with her choice, and because her son is flaming. It's more an issue of social acceptance. I dont mind embarressing my kids, but I wouldnt let them make that decision. At 5 years old the only decision my kid makes is when he wants to go to the bathroom.
This is a case of letting the kid be the parent.
Even if it is not right to bully, 5 years old is not the time to let your kid take social stands for cross gender acceptance.

Who says the kid was taking a stand? His fave character is Daphne, so he wanted to be Daphne. He isn't wearing a billboard for gay rights or making any kind of statement other than dressing up like the character he wants to be. I'm with the Mom, if I as a lil girl wanted to dress up as Batman (or GI joe, which I did, Duke actually *gasp*) everyone would think it's cute, whats the difference? Does it make me transgendered to want to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle too?

First, where is the kid's Dad?
Second, the kid had enough sense once he put the costume on to realize that something wasnt right about him dressing like a girl but the mom convinced him to go ahead anyway.
Third, he might be gay but if hes not when hes older hes going to be pretty pissed that his mom let him dress like that, let him pose for a photo, and then posted it on the internet. Especially when the other kids in his HS find the picture.

He's not consciencously taking the stand, he doesn't know what the fuck he is doing. The mom on the other hand is having him take the stand by posting this shit all over the internet.

On that, I agree with you. Mom did take it to a whole new level with the internet posting, and he wont have to wait till HS to catch grief in todays day and age. I have to admit tho, I do agree with her handling of the biddies who took issue with it. The next generation learns it prejudices and vices from the one preceding.

I got a feeling that happened a little different than her bravado in her internet posting suggests. I am sure the biddies would tell a very different tale and then what really happened was much less than what either of them would say.
Is the kid's name Boo or is that just her nickname for him? That would explain a lot about her though.

I do not agree with her posting it on the internet. Not at all, well - other than for our enjoyment.
But, for the kid to where whatever he wants... hell yea. The kid is FIVE. And, if my child bugged me for that long to wear a costume - you're damn right I'm going to talk them out of the car in it when they have second thoughts. Life is about choices - and living with those choices.

Dumbass mom: "But it also was heartbreaking to me that my sweet, kind-hearted five year old was right to be worried. He knew that there were people like A, B, and C. And he, at 5, was concerned about how they would perceive him and what would happen to him."
Apparently her 5 year old has a better understanding of human nature than she does. Her lack of foresight on the issue is one thing, and going on the internet and posting about it with a picture serves as a nice demonstration of a pattern of cluelessness. I suspect "Boo" is in for a rough adolescence.

I could careless about the kid's costume choice. after all, like said, it's freakin Halloween. I knew plenty of hetro guys that dressed up as chicks for Halloween in jr & sr high school.
Just as the guy who you know is trying to be more "manly" and talk sports in front of other men that watch sports when you know he doesn't actually watch sports. he's acting in front of, because it will make him feel more accepted.
Why people do this is beyond me. Just be yourself and "Fuck em if they can't take a joke" (as the saying goes).

From a logical species standpoint, wouldn't claiming ones alternative orientation to be set from birth be equal to admitting you are defective? Why wouldn't you claim it as a choice based on environmental factors? Is it simply because its easier to court sympathy than to defend the single act that makes us human? Especially at the "movement" level.
Stupid.

If this kid does grow up straight, he will be a lil pimp. At 5 he knows some will make fun of him but he has the confidence to do it anyway, 10 or 12 years from now he will be bangin chicks who want him to do it while dressed as daphne... or bangin dudes, whatever...

I wonder what gays (assuming genetic malfunction as the reason and not environment) would do if we started to remove this feature from the gene pool from genetic manipulation at birth.

There are a lot of people who are born "defective," I was born with a heart murmur which is by definition called a defect. Considering there are many gay adults who exhibited gay tendencies well before they were old enough have any interest in relationships, let alone make a choice between hetero and homo, my opinion is that gay people are born that way.

Oh id imagine it wouldn't be pretty. Bout the same as if someone recommended an open policy of eugenics /euthanasia.

My girlfriend and possibly myself among them. That wasn't the point. It was about pride of action with a board rules compliant jest at theological irony.

You are building a kids mind and personality at that age, the hell if I would be influencing him to cross-dress. She most likely tells him all the time "you can be gay if you want to be" instead of reinforcing what being a guy is about.

You could turn a child into a monster/murder/rapist/thief if you influenced them that way. Genetics has little to do with any of this. Kids are a blank chalkboard and mimic and learn from their surroundings. If you think parenting is a completely hands off deal your a moron. "Oh he can do whatever he wants" GTFO. He'll do whatever he wants when he turns 18 and gets kicked out of the damn house.
Example of the "hands off" approach to parenting
