why the hell would you want one of these? They don't look that good and I didn't get to deep into the website (gallery only) but do they work? Whats the point of an old tv like this that doesn't work?:skep:

They work. It's not HD (duh).

Again, it's functional art. It's not the latest and greatest in fucking television.

I like it. I just wish instead of usig the tubes they were using LCD displays. Then it would be the ultimate. I like the throwback styling, and you could even leave it look like a tube but not. Who knows maybe they will do that in the future.

Exactly.

Of coarse, was at best buy the other day and they have that LED flatty that is maybe 1/2" thick. I've hung way way thicker picture frames!

I know it's not HD, but damn. I mean, I really have a thing for my 52" LCD. Much bigger picture and not so........OLD

But, to each his own. If you like it, dude, then by all means, rock it out.

Taste is great and all, but if it means paying $1,500 - $3,500 for a 24" tube TV I will happily be tasteless.

They picked up an original on American Pickers and I have to agree, they look damn cool.
Most compact picture tube of their time!
Didn't realize there they were doing reissues.
Hmm...
Oh, and I'm with you on the Meteor model. I love the way it sits.

The meteor would look cool in a game room with an old school jukebox.
Old school like with actual records and shit. My old man has one (Wurlitzer?) and it is cool as hell.

Good to see that some of you "get it".

No, it's not the replacement for the 52" Plasma in the media room...this is clearly something else...but in the right place in a home, more as art than as a media center?

This is cool stuff.

I'm going to amend this, id love another rig like the mcga monitor I converted into a tv in high school with a cast off vcr (tv tuner) and a set of pc speakers. Built it for free and worked fantastic.
Beast like that would have to live in the garage though. Wish I could find the pics of that thing, I used to have a great one of me watching the matrix on it while playing wing commander privateer

Lol at Avatard getting defensive over this ugly shit.

Not defensive, really. Taste varies, obviously...but I think Art Deco shit is cool as hell. I love old aircraft and Buck Rogers inspired styling.

I was born in 1960, so this shit was old when I was young...so to me, it's kinda extra funky...

...And yeah, I saw that Predicta on American Pickers, and it prompted me to look it up. A childhood friend had one stashed (non-functional) in his basement when I was growing up. Looked like something outta "Lost in Space".

I can respect that. Just not my style.. I actually like the functionality of something to be the main consideration in it's design, that looks appealing to me.

That would look like shit in the living room.

Where's the "Art" part? Oh wait, there is none.

It's pretty fucking clear you completely missed the point, son.

Nobody is more form-follows-function than I am, so much so that even my Art (where the function IS the form) usually still has a mechanical function component nonetheless. That was the point of this thread.

I don't know why it seems to be such a hard concept to grasp, but this is not something for the media room, or to serve as a primary TV viewing area; this is something that you could perhaps even put where a TV wouldn't even be normally appropriate, since it's Art first, function second.

It's just a cool fucking Deco piece.

Your house must be fucking boring as shit, dude.

You don't have any random cool shit? I have an industrial fucking Coke vending machine in my Florida room.

Well, I must not be as rich and lavish as you then. You must have a ton of space to waste on what "YOU" call art. I have a form over function as a reason of space as well. I don't think that you get he point of form "AND" function with that sorry, tired old tube type tv. It's a waste of space. Picture quality probably SUCKS, as all tube type TV's from the 50's-70's did. And it would really only serve as a show piece for you to attempt to impress your hoity-toity friends.
Wow, you have an industrial piece of crap coke machine!!! I have this cool thing called a refrigerator to keep my coke cold and it stays in my kitchen. I have a functional house not one that wastes space on a "Industrial Coke Machine" WHOA, I am so IMPRESSED :dvrofl: THat you have to have CRAP like that to impress your friends is laughable. I would have thought that a person that spends so much time on a motorcycle forum would be more into bikes and be out riding rather than sitting around trying to find stuff to fill in your sorry existence. If I am not at work, I am riding or with the kids or on the computer. I don't sit around trying to see what POS I can fill that empty bit of wall space with.
And, boy did I think I was easy to spin up. You are getting so wrapped up over something so simple. :lol You are so easy to anger and get riled up over nothing at all really. Well, I hope that you have a good day and don't get too mad when you see that I could really give two turds about your craptastic "Industrial Coke Machine.":dvrofl::lmao: No really impress me some more with something else you have mindlessly wasted your time and money on "Decorating" your house with.:dvrofl::dvrofl::dvrofl::dvrofl::dvrofl:

I can see both sides of the coin. Like I said, if they had a LCD display in there I think it would be the cats ass and would bring in those types that have to have the function over the form. Cause then it's function would rock.

That's some cool shit too. You have to understand mr cave, that some people are into art. They may spend $900 on a painting that you concieve as nothing better than a wall covering from Target or Walmart for $30. You don't have the eye for it, that's all. For me... I would totally do more art type stuff in my home. I prefer more engineering art, but the deco stuff is cool too. I like the harshness of the cold lines in some of those items Avatard link a few posts back. The play with metal for function all while looking super cool. But then again, I degress.... I spend too much money every where else to be cool enough to own such.

I wouldn't mind having one of the 60's-70's era bottle machines, assuming they'd accommodate the larger size Mexican coke bottles.
Failing that, one of the cooler style machines with the bottle opener on the corner would be great. :dthumb:

I wish mine was that cool.

Mine's just a newer Dixie Narco 180 I got off some guy in North Jersey. It was $700, which is about what I'd have payed for a decent second fridge, but even my GF thought it was too cool to banish to the garage.

Keeps the kids outta the fridge in the summer, too. It actually gets a lot of use, guests like it, no one has to ask to get a drink...I keep a bowl of nickles out (red, to the right of the machine), and have the machine set to take 5 cents.

It's not particularly "Artsy" or vintage, but it sorta looks like a big can of coke.

It usually has Dr. Pepper in the 3rd hole...most of the time, diet. I keep diet Tea (antioxidant), and Ginger Ale (anti-inflammatory) in the last two holes for myself, and keep Coke and diet coke in the first two holes, standard Coke machine style.

I have two other goofy "interior decorating monster house-style" ideas I'm considering.

One is a discarded Keith Black hemi block (perhaps send it out to be anodized) under glass, for a coffee table. My current coffee table looks like shit.

Another is to take an old Mac SE, and gut it, then put a new Mac Mini, and a small color LCD in it. Set it up to boot Windows 7. Pop it on the kitchen counter.

I like the coffee table idea.
The Mac idea would probably give Steve Jobs an aneurysm.

I'd like to craft a few steampunk style furniture/decorating elements. But everything I've seen that looks good to me would require me to spend a lot of time collecting crap to 'repurpose' and probably to have a more robust set of tools and a workshop area.
