So the upperclassmen girls on a high school soccer team get caught hazing the underclassmen and get suspended before the State tourney. A shit storm erupts....one of the parents actually filed a lawsuit to get the girls re-instated.

I have been reading this story for a couple of days now and have my own opinion about the actions....and consequences...that led to the controversy.

What do you think?

Sounds like it was all done in good fun, based on the article provided I find the suspensions to be ridiculous, absurd and completely expected.

Agreed.

Pies to the face, leading around with dog collars, singing songs, and being forced to say something nice about the upper classmen.... Oooooo terrible.

The first two aren't even 100% verified, but if that's the worst it got, jesus... take the pacifier out of your kids mouth and let them build some character.

It takes experience, good and bad, to build character... As long as the kids weren't being brutalized or demeaned in a personal manner (ie. calling the fat girl 'tubby' and poking fun of a girl's acne), then there's no harm. In fact, everyone probably thought it was all in good fun until someone's mommy got overly defensive of their precious little drunken mistake.

So which was it? Pies in the face and dog collars or "thinking something nice" or singing songs?

I see 2 sides. There are usually 3: one side, the other side, and the truth. I haven't seen the third side so I can't offer up an opinion.

four seniors and one freshman have been suspended after at least two freshmen girls were reportedly blindfolded and pulled around on dog leashes while hit in face with pies.

Either way that's pretty tame stuff... seems like an over-reaction to some harmless fun.

Gotta dissagree based on some questions. Does the school have a no hazing policy? Were they ever told not to haze? I agree that its a pretty crappy set of charges and nobody got harmed but if they were specifically told not to haze then the school is in the right

"reportedly" sounds an awful lot like "alleged"

And from the original article:

He said his daughter told him that she and other younger girls were asked to do silly things, such as think of something nice to say about the senior girls or sing a song in front of the group.

It was a “misguided attempt at team bonding,’’ Bollas said.

“I don’t condone hazing or bullying; I am [a] pretty attentive and protective dad,’’ he said. “Nobody was pulled around the field by a dog collar. There was no one with a bloody nose.’’

So again, whats the 3rd side? One side says one thing, one side says another.

You sure have a lot of posts for someone on their first visit to the internet.:lol

You mean the truth isn't out there?

X-Files was WRONG! :lol

Probably not, but that isn't what I meant. This is the internet. You don't have to know a damn thing about anything, much less the truth, in order to give your opinion. In fact if you actually do know anything about anything you are probably biased anyway. You just compensate for any deficit in knowledge or facts with excessive insults and vulgarity and you will be just fine!:dthumb:

Oops, I'll work on a biased one-sided opinion based on incomplete and/or inaccurate information and get back to you :D

They need to have hazing where they stick fingers in, or hit them in the face with penis. Then it is newsworthy.

Definitely. To be newsworthy it must involve cheerleader Jello wrestling or water balloon fights, and lots of pictures. After all, it's Sweeps.
