When is the last time you saw a “Will work for food” sign?

Around here we have: Lost it all / Disabled Vet / Homeless and Hungry / Need help /etc. followed with a please help and/or God Bless.

Some don’t even bother with a sign and just hold out a hat.

Has the old “help me out because I can’t get a job” given way to “give me money, this is my job”?

Or "FOB...no place to live, need shelter for my kids"

Meanwhile they are shacked up in a decent home with 10 other Vietnamese/Salvadorans/whatever

It is well known that you are more cultural than the rest of us, Mr. dun.

Now please answer the question.

Now please answer the question.

You asked 2 questions, I answered one.
If you are going to be greedy and demand answers to both questions, at least address me by my real name.

:lol

I've seen several recently that I too thought were kind of daring, or even demanding and thought :wtfru:

The ones here all seem to be white males between 40-70

Mom saw one a few weeks ago that she actually didn't feel like finished his "shift" and walked over to a parking lot and got into a car to drive HOME, and ran up the road to get him a hamburger. He had a sign that said "Hungry, Please help" She came back to the intersection with a burger in the bag and handed it to him. He said "I don't want that shit lady" and threw it down :td: if the curb hadn't been so tall I'm quite certain she'd ran his ass over after that.

The local news followed a few of the "homeless" around here and caught a few in upper-middle class homes with plenty of money, one guy using his kid to help get drug money, one using his buddy's kid and one guy they thought was a laywer who drove off in a Mercedes or something. The ones I usually see are lazy fucks that live in a trailer park a few blocks from Virginia Beach. I followed one pair to see them buy beer, Chinese food and wax for a bitchin 71 Dodge demon. Around here we have more jobs than bodies to fill them. The best I saw was "Student, broke needs beer...future of your country", he got a laugh and a fiver.

Now that the weather is cooling down here, I fully expect them at every major intersection. I have only seen 2 so far.

The local news did a story last summer where they dressed a guy up (long mangy wig and beard) and had him hold a sign on a busy intersection. He got $350 in just over 8 hours. The next day they gave him a new intersection (and a dog), and he got almost $500, and a 25lb bag of dog food.

I just ignore street people...walk past them as if they do not even exist.

The "homeless vet" thing really pisses me off. Every single bum on the streets of San Diego was a "former Marine," I'm sure it's the same for "former Rangers" at Fort Benning and Fort Bragg, "ex-airmen" on the streets of San Antonio, etc. etc.

This is how it is around here. It's BS and why I don't give money. F'em.

I only give them money if they can do tricks. If can't you learn to do something funny or cool with a life of nothing but free time go fuck yourself.

We had a group of CoEds from UT test a theory - they wore bikini tops and shorts at an intersection with a sign that said "Hi, give us money"

They got money.

Go figure.

The smelly, dirty, "homeless" guys that usually work that intersection were pissed

This.

Some problems could go away if you ignore them.

some problems wouldnt be problems if society allowed us to whack them repeatedly with wiffle bats.

My mom used to work downtown at Nationwide plaza when i was real young. She told me stories about the usual bums she saw walking from her parking lot to the building. They would as for money and she would straight up tell them that she knew that all they wanted it for was booze and cigs, but that if they really wanted something she would take them to the deli on the corner for breakfast sandwiches and coffee. She rarely got a taker.... ungrateful fuckers.

There is a famous bum that hangs out on the Ohio State campus. He is the "rapping bum" from youtube. He walks High and Lane most weekends walking up to students smoking outside of bars and freestyles about the Buckeyes and such. I've seen him twice personally. He always carries a large Taco Bell cup. There is a rumor going around that he is actually married and his wife is a rich lawyer from north of the city. Not sure if its true.

My dad approaced on here back in 1998 or 99, and told the bum he would give him $10 an hour and buy him lunch for probably 2-3 days worth of work. All he had to do was come to our office and organize and clean the yard to our shop. We have a 2-3 acre yard with pipe and fittings laying around, and at the time a huge pile of trash. Trash in a dumpster, and fittings / pipe organized on pallets. Would have been easy work, but nope. The bum acted insulted that dad was making such an offer.

Seen the rapping bum. Hilarious to listen to when your trashed, and pretty good from what I recall.

I use the same approach with Bums and street people as I do with the Girl Scouts and Cheerleaders harassing me when Im trying to walk into a store.

Don't make eye contact! EVER! I find they are less likely to approach or talk to you if you dont look at them.

I always find it funny that you are supposedly broke but always have money for a sharpie

I'd argue 90% of panhandlers/homeless people are con artists.....this is how they make their living....period. I refuse to be conned.

The other 10% that are mentally ill or truly down on their luck have other options available to them for help....shelters...job training, etc. The fact that they are too stupid or too lazy or too drug addled to take advantage of the safety nets available to them is not MY problem. They can go fuck.

Hahahahaha, I would to.

I actually had a guy ask for money for food while going to a restaurant. I ignored him of course. A few minutes later a couple bring him in and sit down and have dinner with him. White Guilt FTW!

The exit near my apartment is notorious for having bums begging for money. I've gone by it enough that the bums recognize me and just pass my truck when I pull up.
