Girl, 16, jailed at Merthyr after lying about rape
A 16-year-old girl has been jailed for falsely making a rape claim so her boyfriend would not discover she had cheated on him.

The girl, who had consensual sex with a 20-year-old man after a night out, told police that she had been abducted and attacked by three men, Merthyr Crown Court heard.

It led to all three being arrested.

The girl, who admitted perverting the course of justice, received a six-month custodial sentence.

The judge ordered the girl should not be named even though three men she accused were identified in court.

Prosecutor David Pugh said the girl had said she had been pushed up a metal ladder into an attic bedroom and attacked.

But, he said, the truth was uncovered when detectives viewed CCTV footage of her picking up the men in Merthyr Tydfil town centre and kissing one of them.

Mr Pugh said they returned to the man's parents' house and had consensual sex before the girl left and flagged down a police car, claiming she had been raped.

The girl was arrested and admitted making up the claims in June.

The man spent two months on bail before police cleared him.

Mr Pugh said: "The reason she said she gave the false account was she was scared her boyfriend would find out she cheated on him and it would lead to violence."

Alex Greenwood, defending, said the girl was "truly sorry"

"This is as serious an example of attempting to pervert the course of justice as one can imagine," he said.

"The three men were subjected to a terrifying experience in the knowledge they were entirely innocent."

'Absolutely vile crime'

He said that once she made the rape allegation, "a juggernaut was set in train" and the girl was too scared to admit she was lying.

Judge Mr Recorder Jeremy Jenkins QC sent the teenager to a young offender institution for six months.

He told the girl: "When a woman makes an allegation of rape, it has to be treated with the utmost seriousness.

"Rape is an absolutely vile crime and it's the duty of the police to investigate it thoroughly and carefully.

"False allegations of rape can have dreadful consequences to the men concerned.

"For innocent men to be confronted with an allegation like that, held in custody for 36 hours and subjected to intrusive medical examinations is a terrible experience.

"The police spent many hours and there was a substantial financial cost in investigating your wholly false allegations."

He added: "Every time somebody makes a false allegation of rape, the public has less confidence in the truth of other complaints of sexual abuse made by genuine victims."

Despite an application from the prosecution, the judge ordered the girl should not be identified publicly.

He said her age and "the long-term need for rehabilitation" meant she should be given anonymity.

Until women who cry rape falsely are punished severely for their crimes, women can never hope to truly and universally be able to seek justice for rape as a crime against them.

This is a lie against not only the men accused, but all women.

this is absolutly foul. for a girl to make a claim like that to cover up the sex from her boyfriend should be punished severly. the lives of those three men are now going to be tarnished for the a very long time. no matter how the legal system scrubs those records they will always have those arrests in thier file. I would hope that they sue the pants off of her and her parents civily. That is dispicable.

Seen crap like this a few times in the ER, one fessed up to the detectives at the hospital, the others after the fact. Its fucking pathetic, these guys get locked up and labeled a rapist for no reason, potentially ruining their lives and less importantly it wastes our time and the time of the detectives investigating these cases.

Now when a rape case comes in its a mindset of lets see if this ones actualy real and its bad/unfair to those who actualy were.

I believe this happens much more often than we know. If a woman says you raped her physical evidence is not necessary to arrest you. Her word and her tears alone can easily ruin your life, and all you can say is "I didn't do it." Even if you're not convicted your life is fucked.

I know its a touchy subject because rape is horrible and such, but there needs to be actual physical evidence before someone can be charged with rape. The court system should not be there attempting to protect women from being raped by siding with the accuser by default. Women need to take personal responsibility to protect themselves instead by being strong, learning how to fight, carrying a weapon that they're proficient with etc, etc....instead of relying so much on someone else to provide for protection.

Glad she got busted and glad she's having to pay even though I don't think she's paying enough. This makes it bad for everyone when situations arise in the future.

This actually happened to a very good friend of mine . . . well, except he didn't even have sex with the woman. She was trying to cover up for cheating on her boyfriend (with some unknown party) and told her bf that my friend raped her. He immediately called the cops and got the whole ball rolling.

I don't know what her sentence was for lying, but yes, she got in trouble and of course my friend got off, but oh what a mess the whole ordeal was.

Agreed, but the problem is a lot of women will wash off the physical evidence, then finally confess to it months later. Women just need to educate themselves that if they do get raped, you need to get to a safe place first, then a hospital. Then when at the hospital let them take care of you.

However I've heard so many women claim to be raped, I can't take it seriously. It usually starts off with "I was raped, someone slipped something into my drink". And by slip something "into my drink", she means I drank 18 shots of tequila then fucked a random guy. I've heard a lot of women claim to be raped, I know of only one who was literally raped in the classic sense and this happend to her at 12.

Seems like every deployment I've been on has this happen. Some chick gets with a dude and bangs him for a couple of weeks, then when the story gets out and she doesn't want to look like a whore, so all of a sudden this guy gets rotated out so she doesn't have to be around him or she gets to go home early. Now someone else gets fucked into being gone out of turn (and will have to deploy again when it is their turn, this is just extra time.) Now a guys career is pretty much over even if he's proved innocent, as that suspicion always leave the stain. All because the girl wanted to rotate out early, or didn't want her husband to find out she was cheating, or would rather be thought of as a victim rather than taking responsibility for their own behavior.

Every girl I know, and I mean EVERY girl I know has the story about how they got raped. I'm not going to say that a rape victim is lying, but is this some kind of rite of passage or something? Either ever man in America is a rapist or someone is a hell of a time manager. And every girl I know uses this as an excuse for some kind of psychotic behavior. Now I'm not minimizing the trauma of rape or abuse, but when does it stop being a crutch or a get out of responsibility free card? Bad things happen to guys too, ladies, and we don't whine about it nearly as much.
