For those with trucks.... would a family member get to borrow your truck?

Depends on the family member and how trustworthy they are, I would give my truck keys in a second to my parents or brother-in-law/sister. Heck, there are some friends I would let borrow it if need be.

Parents, yes. Brothers and sisters, no. Been down that road before. Sux.

Without question.
I offered use of my truck to the new neighbor after knowing him for about 7 minutes.
It's a truck. It's insured.

My brother-in-law is my mechanic, so if he screws something up, he can fix it. He wouldn't borrow mine anyway, he has his own. I just force mine on him to do work on it. LOL
Most of my family yes, some hells no

Agreed... it depends. Cannot think of any of my family who I wouldn't lend it to... friends, there are plenty.

Family yes, friends, not many.
Regardless of whether it's insured or not, it's not worth risking being without a vehicle or losing a friend because something happened and they weren't manning up to take care of it. Then again, I guess they wouldn't really be friends in that case.

Yep. I let my neighbor borrow it when he needs it.

Family? Sure, until they do something to lose the privilege. My mother borrows my pickup and smoked in it. She can't borrow my vehicles anymore.
OTOH I lent it to a friend, to drive down to Loudon and race.

I once kicked a friend out of my car, 100 miles from home, because he lit up after I told him that if he needed to smoke, just ask me and I'd pull over for him. Took him a bit before he realized that I was serious.

I don't lend my truck. I will offer to help and bring the truck, but I won't turn over the keys

I guess this is it. Someone asked my opinion, I would be hesitant only because the person that asked her doesn't take care of their own stuff...

Parents, yes. They have an almost identical truck.
Sister/BIL, hell no. Biggest thing they drive is a minivan. They just don't get big vehicles.
Friends, depends on:
1. how they treat there shit
2. why they want to borrow it
3. If the have experience driving a large vehicle.
4. If they know how to drive a diesel, or at least understand and follow directions when given.
Yes it's just a truck. Yes it's insured. BUT, it's not worth getting it wrecked and possibly hurting someone else cause they couldn't handle driving a vehicle of that size.

To me it's their attitude towards their own shit. It don't have to be a truck to understand. Even though it seems like trucks want to get borrowed more often for the "truckness" ability.
I for example... I am a neat freak to the craziest degree. I wash my cars weekly regardless of season. I take care of my shit, all of it. I'm also a car/bike guy, so they mean a little more to me.
For me family vs friends holds no wait. Reason being... my brother as an example.
He was high on milage on his lease, we were way way low. So we swapped. He doesn't take care of crap on his lease car back then. It was nasty inside and everything. I gave him our lease which was typical me, super clean inside & out. I had to clean out his car to even drive it. Now I figured he would at the very least keep up on my car. I was obviously taking care of his better than he did. NOPE! He trashed my car inside & out. I was pissed! We swapped back a few weeks later and I'll never let him borrow my car for more than a day, if for like something like his car in the shop.
I have friends that I would let borrow my cars and others I would not. I would let my BIL borrow mine as long as he needed cause he takes care of mine better than his own cause he knows how I am. That's just proper respect.
And yes there is the "big truck" aspect as well. If the person has no clue how to drive a bigger car/truck than what they have... it may not be a good idea.
Chosen family? yes.
Genetic family? depends on the person. parents, no problem. siblings... eeeeh.... beyond that, debatable.

i borrowed one truck out once. it came back needing much work. apparently I just need to haul.... quickly became hey this could pull out that stump etc. afterall it's just a truck they're supposed to do this right?
no loaner from me.
I never ask to borrow anything from anyone else though either. if I need it once I'll probably need it again someday so I just go buy it. and yes that would include a truck/trailer/camper whatever.
