Anyone have any experiences? I really don't like the cable company at my new house (charter) and considering other options.

Internet wise cable would max 5 mbps and dsl would max 3 mbps.

HDTV - Dish wins easy, but cable isn't effected by weather as easy.

I have satellite and it rarely gets fucked up by weather... and when it does, it flakes out for like 3 seconds and comes back... Only once in 8 months of hard Florida rains have I had it go out longer than that... and it was like 30 seconds...

My folks have the Dish and love it... they've had it for years and have never had it go out for more than a few seconds...

As far as your broadband is concerned... how often do you max out your connection now? As long as you're reasonably close to the switching station, DSL will be fine. That's actually the fastest connection I've ever had...

I have DSL at work and it's noticebly slower than my cable connection at home....is it the computer or the service .....who knows for sure ?

My DSL is just as fast as my cable was and I love my Dish HD. I rarely loose a signal and when I do it's less than a minute.

I was on 1.5MB DSL the whole time in Korea and I was fine with Xbox Live. I'm on a 3MB DSL now and it's the same.

The thing that matters with DSL is your distance from the source... a 1.5 meg line is only 1.5Mbps at the source. The further away you get, the slower the connection is going to be. Like I said earlier, my shit was fast as hell... but we were like 400 yards away from the switching station place...

I'd go with cable modem only, but get Dish HD for TV.

so when you say Dish HD, are youtalking about dish network with HD, or the DishHD package from dish network?

we were originally looking at the America's 200 then adding HD for like $60 or 70 bucks, but then we saw the DishHD package which is just 45 HD channels for $30....none of those other 200 channels I never watch. interesting.

Then for $40 we can add DSL ultra, tho I'm trying to see if the "extreme" is in the area yet

All depends on your location my friend. The fastest connection I ever had was DSL.

I've had DSL 3.0 for a week now, so far everybit as good as Time Warner Cable so far. Even the streaming video is smoother.
