As a Canadian, im proud that they did this, but im also fucking shocked. Our governement is usually so worried about offending people, that they give in to almost any silly demand.

If it wasn't about Iran (or North Korea), they probably would have caved. But since nobody likes those two countries, its fine. Im glad they did it, I just wish our elected and appointed officials would take stances like this more often.

Iranian embassy asking a film showing Iran in a negative light.
No big deal...they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't ask.

Death Threats - meh...everyone gets death threats nowadays for every little thing.

Library and Archives Canada dropped a showing of Iranium at its Wellington Street location in Ottawa on Tuesday because of what spokeswoman Pauline Portelance called a "series of threats."

Portelance has acknowledged receiving a complaint from the Iranian Embassy and a request to not show the film, but said that request was denied.

Portelance said the screening was only cancelled on Tuesday, following threats that culminated in the discovery of a suspicious package at the library.

Understandable - Dont want to put people at risk. Its one thing to show a movie, its another thing to organize additional security. Was the cancellation done so that they could reschedule (and incorporate additional security)

Mixed feelings about this. Yes its awesome that he said "fuck em...show the movie" but what steps did he take to mitigate the increased risk factor?


It doesn't look like they bowed to the Iranians. It looks like they canceled because they received death threats and couldn't guarantee security at the screening (in response to death threats and suspicious packages).
