Occidental prejudice. The vast majority of the up to 30 million people killed by the Japanese, during WWII, were from various Asian countries. Large numbers of captured women were forced into brothels, to serve Japanese troops, in occupied territories. As it didn't happen to Westerners, it was grossly under-reported.

But that doesn't explain why incidents like Bataan and Wake Island aren't part of the collective consciousness.

(scene--lunch, Chik Fil-A, stuck because of client's tardiness. I am sitting alone outside at my table, and next to me, another girl sitting alone.)

Girl: Thanks....Hey--are you Jewish?
