View Full Version : I Always Said My Hitch Was Like a Battering Ram...

...for those who don't pay attention. The lady that rear ended me at 60MPH while I was at a stop found out the hard way. She was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with lacerations from her seat belt, possibly more. The deputy told me she had just gotten her car back from the body shop; I can only assume she was in a previous accident not long ago. You can see how far forward she moved me, and that was after I slammed into the Frontier that was stopped in front of me. Something on 400 was slowing down traffic and the people ahead of me were at a stop.

Considering my Xterra is 7 years old and value is somewhere between $7-10K, depending on if the insurance company uses trade-in or personal sale value, it may be totalled. Quite a bit of frame damage in the rear and plenty of body damage all around.

I'm OK but banged up; getting sore all over now that a few hours have passed. Just very happy my son wasn't in the truck with me. The X has been very good to me; will be sad to see it go, if that's the case.

My thoughts exactly.

Give it a few days and then see a doctor.

With an impact like that, you're bound to have some shit out of place.

LOL, if somebody hit my truck doing 60, the hitch would be in their lap. My rear bumper would shave the roof straight off.

Glad you made it out. Here's hoping her insurance takes care of you and that she can't afford another car for a very long time.

If she has insurance...

I hope it is written off; I don't want it back after this. My right shin area is swollen and sore as Hell and numb in some areas. Might have to go to the Dr. in the morning to have it checked out. Other than that, just some bruises.

That looks bad but it could have been a lot worse. Glad you are OK. Enjoy the expense and hassle of having to get a new vehicle. See how you feel, but as others have said if you aren't feeling better PDQ you probably want to get examined.

Glad your ok. Don't worry they would be crazy not to total that.

I agree with you getting checked out. At 60 mph that would be some impact.

Lee, I'm so glad you're relatively OK. Please go get checked out, if just for peace of mind.

Def go get checked out man, you never know what damage you dont know about that could come back to get you down the road. At least having a record of a medical visit you'd be covered for future visits related to the matter, and her insurance should pay for it.

If it had to happen, best that it happened while you were alone in your truck...not in the truck with your wife and child....or on your bike.

Go get checked out....ounce of prevention > pound of cure and all that.

And your truck looks like a goner. :/

Hey dont let them just steal the car from you. Go get that mother and part it out. Thats at least 10k in parts man. well worth it. All the expensive parts ook to be intact. I doubt your radiator even busted. You could have a lot of money if you part it out. Hell ill buy the AC Compressor from you. Mine is shot in my Frontier.

I was in an accident like that. My sister was at a stop sign and I was in the back seat of her cavalier when a ford explorer smashed into the rear of our car going 55mph. Said he never saw our car or the stop sign.

Got the Sherrif's office accident report; she was cited for the accident with following too close and being inattentive. Turns out she was in the left lane and was coming over into the right lane when she nailed me. How anyone can not notice a line of cars 30 deep at a stop in the next lane over when the road is on a slight down grade is beyond me. We both have the same insurance company - Allstate, so there won't be too much hassle in getting things done.

Just waiting for the collision center to get the estimate completed today and sent off to the claim agent. I expect to get their initial offer on the vehicle buyout early next week. Got a look at the truck and the damage is worse than I originally thought. Radiator is crushed, air intake plastics are all destroyed, frame damage in the right front and the right front fender well is crushed and against the tire. Even the front doors are out of alignment, just didn't notice it at the scene.

Spent half the day yesterday getting checked out at the Dr. No fractures, and no blood clots in my swollen leg. The meds they gave me are helping alot.

They say its better that way. If you know its going to happen you tense up. My friend was asleep in the back of a Volvo that got into an accident. He went out that little back window and bounced down the road. Besides road rash and to devil lumps on his head he was fine.

When I got rear ended I seen it coming. It didn't feel good at all. I had my foot on the ground by the time the car stopped and started running to kick some ass. Lets just say I wasn't impressed with being hit.

They finally declared the Xterra totaled yesterday morning. Got the check this morning and they were more than generous with the value. Picked up the new ride this afternoon. Absolutely love it. Wanted the AWD but they are too hard to come by and the dealers aren't as flexible when dealing on those. The FWD is still rated to tow 3500 lbs. - more than enough for an enclosed trailer or small boat for the lake some day. I'm still a little sore but feeling better each day. Going to ask the insurance company on Monday for some kind of compensation for pain, discomfort and inconvenience; will be interesting to see how that goes. Not looking to take advantage, just feel like I should get something for all of my troubles related to this.

DFon't know anything about the pilot, but the ridgeline (which I believe shares the same chassis) is a pretty good truck. Nice buy

I wouldn't think of compensation until you are feeling good. It doesn't take much for your pain to come back. I would give it a bit of time first.
