With the trend of people trying to become more healthy I am thinking about opening a fitness center. Nothing big to start but I would like your opinions.

Here is the poll.

Which would you rather do...

Sign a contract for a certain amount of time
or
Pay on a per visit basis

Personally I like the pay per visit idea, with the option of signing a contract for a lesser rate. If everyone is like me they don't want to be locked into a contract and they don't go enough to pay for it.

The location would be Halls, and if all goes well maybe I can get it up and running before the RUSH starts their renovation of the old grocery store.

Please vote and feel free to express your opinions and what you would pay on a per visit basis or on a monthly contract

Here is a very brief marketing strategy:
Monday- Bring a friend 1/2 price
Tuesday - Ladies Only
Thursday - Ladies Only

I would like to cater to a unisex atmosphere but would also like to encourage the ladies a time when they could come out and not feel "intimidated"

Monthly or pay per visit. Give a discount to those that do a full year payment.
And have it open available long hours, with like key cards or something.

I'd say by the month, with a discount for yearly contracts.

The least attractive option to me would be the pay per visit, if only because it'd be a pain in the ass to have to hassle with stopping to pay at each visit.

Sitting back and thinking, have all three options would be a really good idea. With the per visit price being the highest, then monthly, and least expensive would be the yearly.

 Ofc its a really good idea only every other gym, tanning bed, etc does the same thing. Cant believe this was even a poll.

very few clubs, if any, do the per visit thing. Court South does, but it is $15 per visit which is aweful high. I was thinking more like $5.

What are your suggestions on a marketing structure?

I work for a fitness equipment manufacturer so getting the equipment that I want will not be a problem. Creating the marketing scheme and business plan will be.

What are the top 5 pieces of equipment that you use, excluding cardio (tread, elliptical, etc.)

Olympic sized bench press and bar. Dumbbells. Squat racks. I'm not much of a machine guy I prefer my free weights. And every gym around here also offers a 1 week free membership to first time users just to see if they like the environment, equipment, etc.
