wish youd got the shot head on but from the head shape id say it was not a huge worry. maybe a black rat snake? kinda out of their range though

from what I can see of the shape of its head I am thinking some sort of bull or gopher snake, def not anything venemous though.

Rat snake had my vote too. You can see that he has a bite out of his side so he may have been injured. He had a fair amount of trouble navigating on the concrete so I helped him back into the grass and he took off. He had a pointy tail and a small head. When I got close to him he began twitching his tail...

Most snakes mimic the rattlers and shake their tales if theyre scared/angry. I am going to need to do some research on this now, its a nice looking snake though so you know I prolly would have taken him home LOL

I owned a few reticulated pythons, granted theyre not venemous but are equally as vicious. But I do agree with ya on the cotton mouths they are some nasty buggers.

most garter snakes are pissed off. I caught one when I was a kid and my parents freaked because it bit me, if they only knew what laid ahead

king snakes do eat other snakes and I know the cali kings eat rattlers. I dont know if other species of kings eat rattlers orother venemous species

I can't verify, but I know that my grandfather (who normally kills most snakes he encounters) expressed regret when he accidentally killed a kingsnake with the lawnmower. Apparently it had been living on our property for a while and he was happy to have it there. :idk:

All Kingsnakes will eat other snakes, poisonous or not. North American kingsnakes are immune to the venom of North American poisonous snakes (rattlers, cottonmouths, copperheads, even corals) but not neccesarily poisonous snakes from other places. They are very good to have around to keep down the populations of other snakes and rodents and they can get pretty big. I saw one in Osceola National forest about 6-7 ft long laying in the road and when it saw me it literally launched itself from the edge of the road and cleared about a 12 ft wide ditch to land and disappear into the woods.

See, that's what I had always heard and why I can't subscribe to the "ALL SNAKES MUST DIE!!!" mentality.
I figure a snake that helps police its own deserves my respect. :dthumb:

So youre endorsing canibalism then

people dont realize most snakes are good since the eat rodents and other pests :)

I absolutely do!
And yeah, places that don't have at least a moderate snake population have issues with rats and other vermin.

I don't believe we have many snakes in michigan and we don't hv a big rat issue. Maybe in detroit they hv a mild rat issue (mild compared to like ny).

You snake haters do realize that if you kill all the snakes, both good and bad kinds, that we'd have waaaaaay worse issues right? Moles, rats, mice, all those nasty birds ppl hate, etc would pretty much overrun things...and since vermin carry disease, hello plague, etc.

You realize I have no issue murdering the shit out of them too. I am just as likely to kill all the snakes as I am the vermin.
