OK, first you don't go sticking your face at a strange dog. Second, you don't take you damned dog into a store (I hate that shit).
Owner charged after dog bites woman's nose off (http://www.torontosun.com/2011/04/18/owner-charged-after-dog-bites-womans-nose-off)
OTTAWA - The elderly owner of a dog that attacked a Home Depot employee in Ottawa on Friday, leaving the victim's face disfigured, was charged by the city on Monday.
"As a result of the investigation, we were able to validate the bite did occur," said Susan Jones, general manager of emergency and protective services.
The shih tzu's owner — described by the victim as a woman in her seventies — will have to fork over a $610 fine and keep her pooch muzzled at all times in public.
"We take a zero-tolerance approach," to ensuring community safety, Jones said.
Anne Riel's face is disfigured after her nose was bitten by a shih tzu while she greeted its owner inside a Home Depot store last Friday.
The mother of two kids, four and 16, has worked as a greeter and sales associate for almost one year at the Ottawa store.
"He literally jumped up and bit my nose off. It was bleeding everywhere," Riel, 39, told QMI Agency.
Plastic surgeons fixed her nose with seven stitches. At least three more surgeries are needed.
"I'm happy with (the action against the owner), but then what happens to the dog?" Riel said Monday.
She wants the dog put down after the incident, which happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Her shift was almost over and she had won a customer service award that morning.
The big box store has a no-pets policy.
But the rule isn't enforced and dogs are often brought inside the store, Riel said.
The attack was captured on video by the store's cameras, however, the company has yet to issue a statement.
The store's assistant manager on duty Sunday declined comment and referred comments to Home Depot's public relations department in Toronto.
QMI Agency's calls were not returned Sunday or Monday.
Signs reading "NO PETS (Except Seeing Eye Dogs or Service Animals)" are posted on the glass doors at the entrances and exits.
The shih tzu may be ordered to be destroyed.
"We haven't dismissed that yet," said Jones. "We're going to review the evidence and the injuries. We could very well proceed."
Riel returned to work Monday and said she's receiving a lot of support from colleagues and customers.

Fuck you.
I like my nose right where it is.
Says just about everything I've ever said about small dogs. If it was a pit I'm sure the cops would have executed the owner on site. How'd the little rat get to her nose anyway?

She leaned in to say, "Who's a good doggie" or some other stupid shit.

Doubly-so since, as a greeter, it was her job to enforce the "no pets" policy of the store.

Maybe that's what pissed the dog off.
"Oh, you shouldn't be in here, you naughty little doggy. You just turn right around anOWFUCKMYNOSE!"

it was a shitzu, must have been tired of not being respected as a vicious beast capable of ripping your face off, or at least a piece of your nose.
why destroy the dog for the owner being dumb enough to bring it where it wasn't allowed? That little tidbit would have avoided the entire situation.
I hate stupid people.

Pretty much standard procedure for a dog bite incident. Whether it's the owner's fault or not, you still have a dangerous dog.

does a shitzu realy qualify as adog though, I thought they were just big rats
Funny, I thought it was rabies vaccination, 10 days quarantine, and an evaluation of the dog.... unless the victim presses charges.
I'd be interested to see the store video.
Yes, little dogs can flip shit and be almost worse than big dogs... I don't believe it's as common though. You never hear about the "killer chihuahua"... but you will always hear about the "killer pit" or "killer rottie" or "killer boxer"

my dads neighbor breeds soem sort of annoying longhair runt dog. Couple of times one ran into the yard and started baring at me, one wa sliterally kicked back over the fence and I told the owner next time one comes over and tries attacking me I iwll make it part of my driveway. Doggie wont fare too well against a size 15 boot ;)
Tommy, I hear you completely.. it's still the human's fault for being stupid... not controlling animals, breeding a bad temperament, etc.
Please take your size 15 boot to said human's face :)

I would love to, the people next door there are real trash, now theres all sorts of people always around and the mother is a real shithead. Apparently these dogs are worth soem money and she tried giving me shit for kicking one and threatening to kill another, untill I told her I will have the county come in and see that shes not properly securing them and her dog came on my (well my dads property) and bit me. She changed her tune quite a bit after that. This was also when I had large pythons so I kinda implied that if the snakes got loose it would be all over for rover

My aunt had one that gave my sister a pretty big scar. She was just petting it and playing with it, not even rough or wrestling with it. It was more of a ripping bite, long and tearing, than deep. We all saw it happen and the dog was grabbed and chucked outside very quickly. It was always a nice dog, it freakin just flipped a switch and went psycho. It wasn't allowed around us after that when we went to my Aunt's house. She had to keep it outside while any kids were in the house.

The bigger problem is irresponsible pet owners. Most people allow small dogs to do anything, They jump on you, they bark, they snap but it's ok they are 'little' so it's cute. BS - Small dogs needs the same discipline as any other size dog and anyone that brings their dog in public is responsible for how it acts.
That being said, you have to also remember people are stupid, they will walk right up and stick their face to any animals face like it's nothing. In Dog language this is a threat....and they often react. They will touch and pet your dog without your consent or even bothering to ask, etc. So if you aren't confident in the socialization and temperament of your pet then don't take them public places. If there's any concern then muzzle them until you are sure...
It's a shame and I hate misbehaved animals as much as the next but it's not their fault at all. They weren't taught any different.

Exactly! And people's similar lack of control over their kids is what keeps us from bringing ghost out more often. Vic already lost one dog to some retard's kid running up and hitting it in the face. Don't want it happening again
