Holy cow, watch the video at the link for some craziness. Glance in your mirrors people, when you are breaking...

I agree with the article rear brake no no and escape route = win.

a driver with no licence and no insurance.

THERE's a big freaking shock.

I was watching and cringed when the rear locked up - either way, that was ending badly.

Yeah he wasn't crushed... if you look closely he was thrown slightly to his right and to the right of the car that hit him. But still got smoked and F'ed up.

And you always "get the big picture" and "always leave yourself an out"

2 keys he didn't do.

This is the reason you need to learn to split lanes when traffic is stopped.

I would have just reacted by swerving between the cars instead of locking up the rear like this guy did.

I kept staring at the white HHR about 6 cars back take a complete nose dive. The first time I watched it I was like "shit, shit, shit". I thought he was going to plow into somebody and start a chain reaction.

I think the punishment in such situations should be much more severe...

I used to work with a woman who was permanently disabled after a girl ran over her and her husband on their bike... She pulled out of a 7/11, t-boned them, and ran them over trying to flee. Turns out a cop was RIGHT there and witnessed the whole thing...

No license, no insurance... She ended up spending a few months in jail, and that's it... They tried to sue her, but she didn't have anything... so they went after her parents (who freely admitted that they bought her the car and paid for her gas, knowing that she had no license/insurance)... no dice.

Her husband is pretty much fully recovered, but she's on a walker the rest of her life (in her late 40's) because her humerous was pretty much completely replaced by a titanium rod and her one leg is like an inch shorter than the other...

They still ride though... :rockwoot:

have a buddy that rides a trike because of being run over from behind.

had it almost happen to me in stopped traffic, heard tires squealing and I just instinctively pulled up between two cars. looked back to see a young woman parked where I had been with a stupid I'm sorry look on her face.

A car crash sandwiches a motorcycle driver, thrusting him onto the highway and leaving him with a broken rib.

That's why I never ride in the center of the lane when I'm in traffic.

As usual the cattle stop and stare. You never let me down cattle. Keep up the good work.

Theres really not much the rider could have done except for swerving onto the shoulder. If he would have used his front brake he would have stopped faster and gotten hit harder by the car behind.

Yes there is... it's called FOLLOWING DISTANCE... AND LANE POSITION. had he had both... he would have given the POS behind him time to take his eyes off the texts.. and given him a escape route as a last resort

The thing I see... is Yes it sucks that you have No insurance/license drivers out there... but it's OUR responsibility to mitigate as many issues as we can by riding INTELLIGENTLY. Like OSP's example... we can't eliminate it... but we can reduce the incidences by controlling what situations we put ourselves in.

This was a large reason I gave up my sport bike... it just asked to be pushed... putting you in situations you need not be in.

Thought I was going to get nailed like that yesterday on the bike. traffic stopped suddenly around a curve, I was hard on the brakes and heard the car behind me lock it up. Was able to look back see he had plenty of room to go before hitting me and was already planning to lane split through a few cars if he was still comming.

This has saved me a few times from idiot drivers
