Video from my first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament yesterday in Denton Tx. I did a very poor job controlling my adrenaline surge and reacting to it accordingly. In fact, the rush was more than what I got from skydiving, so much so that from about the 1 minute point on I was afraid I was going to puke.

Performance wise I did pretty well, I was way ahead on points until I lost. At 2:05 I make a critical mistake that cost me the match, very disappointing.

BTW, my wife competes as well and won Gold in No-Gi and Gold in Gi at the Houston Fight to Win tournament a couple of weeks ago.

Almost makes me want to come out of retirement and stop being a center judge and get back into the ring.

Almost.

Wouldn't be possible if my wife and son didn't enjoy training and competing as well. The amount of time I put in to make weight and train would take away from family too much if they weren't there with me.

You're prob too old to compete anyway right? j/k man

5-ish. I've been teaching for well over a decade. Took 3 years off when we had the little one and now I'm back.

One of our purple belts is a Pan Am Jiu Jitsu champion and is 45 years old. Take care of yourself and age really is just a number.

I do take care of myself but aging still sucks when you've got 19 and 20 year olds throwing back flips into their kata

Well I did much, much better this time. The past weekend was the Europa Fight 2 Win Tournament in Dallas. There were over 800 competitors and my division was STACKED. There were over 20 guys in the adult 155lb division. I had 9 fights and won them all via submission in under 2:30min (rounds are 6 min long)!! All that training definitely paid off this time. I broke one guy's arm for trying to slam me, but unfortunately I don't have that on video. Anyway, here's a couple of vids.

This was the fastest submission of the day. (I'm in the blue gi)

My wife took Gold in gi and silver in nogi in her division, she kicked some serious ass.

Very, very fun weekend and our school won the Team Cup for most medals in a huge tournament that brought out lots of schools and competitors! Bubb Rubb says WOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOO!!!
