I've had my eye on this car for last 3 months....it was love at first sight after driving a '69 Camaro all through high school and college.
It took a bit to get THIS particular option set up to Wichita....but...it's here...the deal is done....and it is HELLA fun to drive. 6.2L, 426 HP, 6 speed manual with the Hurst short throw shifter makes me chuckle every time I give it some. :lmao:

Did you test drive the auto as well? If so how did it compare?
I was looking at them the other day, considering one but after driving the 6 and the 8 auto, they left me completely cold. And of course no local dealers had a manual. I mean really, who buys these things AUTO?!?!
The look of the car is great, and I love the design of the convertible, but I want the power its purported to have...and didnt find in the few I drove.

You would be surprised! I'm with you. Get it in an auto and you're a douche!! Sportscar and muscle cars should be a manual or a stick.
I ran into the same problem with Challengers... 4 dealers and none had a Challenger RT in a stick shift. When I told them that was stupid, they looked at me like I sprouted a 3rd head. I told them I want a "drivers car" not some F'in slush box.

I test drove the 6 speed manual with the V8....it was an 2SS convertible....bad ASS car....but...I'm just not in to the convertible thing.
I got the 1SS with the RS kit and the interior components that I wanted....Boston Acoustic sound system and the Hurst short throw shifter....I prefer fabric seats rather than leather...and didn't care about the "supplementary gauges" or HUD that was the included in the 2SS package. All a matter of personal preference, I guess. And I'm with you guys....I don't understand people who buy neutered "muscle cars".....V8.....6 speed manual....or it's NOT a muscle car anymore. LOL
It's funny....had been drooling ovah the car for months....was out on my bike in Old Town and heard a beast sounding rumble at a stop light....dude in a car just like mine looks ovah and says...pull into this QT...I wanna check out your bike..that is bad ass. I was like....for real...I wanna check out your car....IT is bad ass. That was a Thursday night...I was in the dealer making the deal Friday. And I bought it, 101....no lease. Made a pretty fair deal, I think.
They had to go get the car from a dealer in Green Bay, WI....so it added a week to the wait...but...totally worth it. Gonna try to focus on work today rather than all the goodies I want to get for the car....but....probably know how that will end up. :lmao:
I think it goes well with the bike...
Stuff a giant motor in it.....paint it black...and I'm usually hooked.

Nope, wrong, it can't. The vast majority of performance optioned Chevys in 68-72 had Muncies. The majority of performance optioned MOPARs of the period had slush boxes.
The slush boxes didn't dominate the Chevy performance lineup until the later 70s, and by then the performance era was essentially over...a huge number of Turbo 350 Late 75-82 Vettes were two pedal cars.

Personally, I'd like to section it, channel it; take at least 4 inches out of the whole thing, just below the beltline. I think it would look far more like the original Challenger, and make it lose that visual "fat" look it seems to have gained in its current iteration.

I'm gonna blame salesmen for that.
Went by Ford yesterday, want to test drive the new 8, they have NOTHING in stock at all. Told me he'd call me when they got some in, then asked if I had a preference on manual or auto. I asked him why exactly would I want a muscle car in automatic. Tells me thats by far what everyone wants. Maybe if the salesmen would explain to ppl that its sacrilege and they should be repeatedly run over by their own auto sportscar for getting it in auto it wouldnt be such a trend. But thats only my opinion.

Sorry, I don't.
You were looking down at the dude who owns the Shelby. He can go out and buy an Aprilia that comes OEM auto, BTW.
Lots of people don't want to deal with what they consider a hassle of a manual. A lot of the old timers and middle age folk that buy these cars, aren't going to see how fast they can make it to the pharmacy to pick up their hip medication. They buy them cause they look "cool" and remind them of their youth. There are a lot of reasons why auto is a perfectly acceptable choice (including the company that is making them will make a shit ton more money if they offer both.) Complaining about cars coming in both auto and manual is just plain dumb and you will always be in the wrong for that one.
I am actually having a good day.

That's pretty much calling anyone who chooses a muscle car with an auto a douche. Maybe not in so many words, but still...

My first car was manual, the truck I owned the longest was also a manual. I can drive a stick. Oh, and I can flat out beat the shit out of you on a motorcycle as well. Does it mean I am better than you? Fuck no. Does it mean anything? Fuck no.
I owned a 4 cylinder piece of crap auto civic for a long time. It was functional, got me from A to B, and got great gas mileage because of my long 50+ mile commute. The truck I own now is auto 4 cylinder. I don't need a stick truck or a MONSTER engine. I don't carry any load or use the truck in a manner that would require more. I buy automobiles that are functional in a price range I can buy without needing a loan. Plus, I don't have to prove my dick is big or that I am "cool."
I'll be honest Trip, for me, none of this is a penis extension, or to make me "cool". I just hate driving underpowered cars (got into musclecars early), and hate the lack of control you have in an automatic.
I used to think this lack of control was just when *I* was at the controls.
An Ex-GF from Brazil had a Honda Fit. I always felt rather unsafe in it. She had a slushbox in it. Took it to the dealer for service one day, and the dealer gave us a lift home in the shop vehicle; another Fit, this one with a stick.
Mind you, the guy drove like a nut, but I was still totally comfortable in the car, and it didn't feel like it was careening out of control, as I had felt with the auto-equipped car.
The lack of control was actually palpable from the passenger seat for me.

Unsafe and you ride a motorcycle, makes sense.... Most muscle cars have never been the most "controllable" cars either. So that blows that out of the water. You can get a little miata go cart that will corner on rails though.
Power is all about penis extension and being cool. If you just wanted to get from A to B safely, efficiently, and reliably; there is much more options for that in the lack of power department. Much more reasonably priced as well. You can argue against it all you want, but it will always be an image thing.

I have not tried to stop you from expressing your opinion. She said if I didn't like ya'll comments to leave the thread. I told her if she didn't like mine, to leave the board. I have not stopped anyone's opinion. I have just expressed mine.
I have not overlooked that, there is a lot of people that find it just as FUN to drive one with an auto trans and get this at very slow speeds not taking advantage of any of that power.
That is what this is all about, you guys writing off people who have just as much fun in the same car with different options.

I am not the one complaining about people buying automatics. I don't care if they buy manuals or automatics. I don't care if a noob wants to go out and buy a Busa or a rich dad wants to go out and buy his daughter a $500k mercedes for her 16th birthday. I simply don't care what people buy for their choice of vehicle. These people apparently do worry if someone whats to go buy a Shelby with an auto transmission though.

Because we were talking about image. There is two different topics going on now. Keep the fuck up. If you don't care about image and just want something that is fun, you can get a fun car for cheap that has a ton of power, but isn't pretty.
The other topic is people buying autos and you not liking that.

So do you regularly drive around the streets of New Jersey like that?
Actually, there's a few corners that are among my favorites. The left at the end of my street is one. Hard downhill 270. On mornings when my kid was late and missed the bus, I used to drift it taking her to school, as there would usually be dew on the ground. The car does this maneuver with absolute total control, and complete lack of any drama, pivoting perfectly on its inside front wheel, and barely making a sound if throttle is applied judiciously. It's actually less dramatic than cornering normally, and cuts a much more precise arc.
It's also fun as fucking balls.
The truth is that HP induced throttle steer can be applied without tire noise or smoke, if done in a controlled manner. Proper use of the manual transmission allows you to maximize the throttle response by keeping the engine on the powerband to maximize your control. It's precision driving, and not everyone can do it, but I was raised playing with very fast cars, and I have a lot of experience steering with the back wheels. In many cases, I can move the car in a smaller area and with far more precision "with the throttle".

You're on crack. No auto is more efficient than a manual. At cruise, a manual has ZERO slip. Auto? Not so much, unless it has a lockup converter (which sucks). Remember; fluid coupler.

I am not talking about a standard auto. I am talking more about something like dual clutch sequential shift transmission. You lose power longer every time you shift with a manual. This combines the best of both.

What if someone gets the same relaxation from an auto?
Remember that's what this is all about, you like manuals, other people like autos and don't get the hassle of manual. Does it really matter to you if someone gets the relaxation from something else?
It's not about what's best, it's about what someone wants... Some people just can't seem to grasp that... It's about image as well. Some people want a brand new camaro to ease their mind, others its a beater that's been suped up for the track.... Happiness can come from feeling like a badass on public roads with a brand new vette or from running a fast time in a 20 year old car. Is either better? NO, it's all what sets your mental image of yourself at ease.

And I am not arguing which is better, manual vs auto. I am saying it doesn't really matter. If a person wants auto, who gives a fuck...
The other part of the argument is image, some people want a new car, some people only want old cars, some people don't give a shit as long as it runs. It's all an image all of these people want to display to others or to themselves. Image is in everything we do, even the stupid emo kids in the mall that want to be social outcasts care about the image they portray. The live axle isn't bad in a high HP application, as long as you control hop with ladder bars IME. Until I had ladders in the Chevelle, it was admittedly pretty fucking ugly, though. Changed the fucking car. Made it much nicer.
That said, the IRS on the C4 is just damn nice. You can see in my burnout where I let off as I pass between my truck and garage, and the Vette, which had begun drifting to the right, snaps instantly back into line, with almost no over-rotation whatsoever.
Handles really nice, has great feedback, and not a horrible steering wheel given the fact that it has a fucking bag in it. Like I said, other than the bit of typical convertible cowl shake over rough shit (which can actually get fucking scary sometimes), it's rather nicely behaved. I dare say that the coupe would have none of this bad behavioral trait, and must be dead linear.
...and yes, it has a fiberglass leaf spring in it.

MOPAR guys. 727 disease. Ever notice there's a lot of auto MOPARS?
Don't know what it is with MOPAR guys, but they don't really seem to know how to shift their own gears. They should change the logo to a rainbow.
Manuals aren't even available on V6 Challengers. Which is funny because most companies put manuals in the basic or basic cars.
I like this guy's concept:
http://www.smcars.net/forums/attachments/work-progress-rendering-animation/116721d1294891936-charger-concept-charger17.jpg
What the Charger should have been. Two doors. They just used the Charger name to get sales by association with its roots. NOW, saying that... even though they are massively large vehicles, my buddy has an RT police edition, and the throaty V8 is pretty intoxicating. And comfortable to boot. Nothing like the 300C SRT8 I drove around in high school though... that was a monster.
I am still loving the looks and the interior feel of the Camaro best, if only I could get my hands on a decent one to test drive.
Chi I just was at the Ford dealer the other day testing a manual v6. Yeah yeah... the v6 . I would have never ever looked at a v6 until I got a ride in my boss' 2010 v6. He went ripping off and I had to look at him and say "this cant be the v6?". I can get into a lease for $210 a month, and it would save a ton of gas and ins. TONS of manual v8's around here though... I can't believe you're having trouble....

Today's clutches are all hydraulic. Super easy on the leg. The high effort days of a manual are past. They're very well behaved, and not much of a chore, even in traffic.

First time in this thread I agree with you.
Paddle shift may not be as fun, but it is a helkl of a lot cleaner and makes for better timed shifts once your used to it.
Because its doing the work for you. Yes its ultra fast, and removes the human error aspect. And its much easier in traffic. But it gets boring after awhile. The SRT8 had tiptronic stick. It was cool because you could let the engine rev out so much higher and make that hemi sing. But it just kinda got blah after awhile.
Artificial inseminations a heck of a lot cleaner than sex too but I doubt you'd wanna give that up
Motherfuckingthis!

So you would give up having sex with a super hot model that knows how to work your shaft and thus make you cum faster to be with an ugoh that can't work the shaft as well?

It all gets boring after awhile. That's why we have shit like motorcycles/airplanes/sky diving/hang gliders/bungee jumping/base jumping/helicopters.
If you want to be a fucking purist, sell your fucking car and walk. Cars aren't exactly old tech and part of the soul of being human. Walking is, do that shit. Otherwise, technology will continue to bypass shit. Manuals will go away eventually. Stop being snobbish pricks and let people drive what they want.

Not all of them, they are a shit ton faster than any human will ever be. If you want to race a F1 car, you will be using paddles.
That's the second or third time you've said that, but the people who like stick don't give a shit if paddles are faster. They still want stick.
Jeez, talk about "let people drive what they want"

Mazdas are known for good steering. Them along with Subaru and of course all the German manufacturers.

Another example: You say nobody here drives their car to its full potential, yet you say they should be upset that their stick shift is slower than a paddle-shift. Why should they be upset, seeing as how they don't drive it to its full potential anyway?

I don't think people who choose sticks over paddle shifting are idiots cause they choose a slower car, just like people choosing auto over sticks. I was just stating that paddle shifting is newer faster technology, why not go with that if you want fast.

I know the cars are in different categories, but its been a longer process of whittling down a long list. I was looking at,
Trucks: Ram 1500 or Chevy Avalanche
Four doors: the Lancer, the Maz 3, the Jetta, and the Chrysler 200
Two doors: the mustang, and the v6 Challenger.
I got rid of the trucks due to the current cost of gas. If i decide I want something to haul a bike I might just do what a buddy did and pick up an old beater truck for $1500. Due to the overwhelming negative reviews for the v6 challenger, that was removed. The verdict on the new "chepened" jetta seems blah. And I havnt had a chance to see the 200 up close. I've driven both the Maz and Lancer. The question is, do I want a peppy four door... or a 300hp mini-pony car? I probably wont pull the trigger on something until the end of year sales come round. And if I dont see the deal I want, ill wait until spring and come back with more cash...

Umm, sex is good HmmKay.
As for paddles yep. Faster, yep. Like the Nissan GTR just bloody efficient. but...
Isnt the passion of a sports car as important as the times for most people. IE people that arent trying to qualify at Mosport or Lemans. Isnt the joy of heel toeing into a tight corner, slipping the clutch for that just right combination of engine braking, tire slip, and revs part of the allure of a stick?
I learned roadracing on SV650's and Honda Hawk big bores and using the clutch entering a corner on one of those was an art...Something that slipper clutch I4 junkies could never understand. Up shifting was always done clutchless so moot point there as with most racing car stick shifts (non proddy models here)...

This...
Sure auto's are easier at the drag strip
flappy paddles are quick around the track
However, I don't drive on a track or drag strip. I drive on public roads.
Driving an automatic is a good way to drift off into la la land.
With the stick...no matter what car it is, I'm actually engaged in the process.
If I wanted to be a passenger I'd have someone else drive.
(and screw the 'drive in traffic' argument)
Automatic drivers...whatever suits you.
However the typical arguments:
"My gimp leg cant handle clutch pedal"
"You can shave .0003 seconds on your lap times"
"the new automatics are EPA rated 1mpg higher than the stick"
"EVERYONE ELSE is getting one"
They mean nothing to me
Again, if you want to do the whole driving is pure argument, get to walking. That's pure. Driving is technology. It progresses and moves on. Manuals will eventually disappear from the American standard car market, hell it's getting that way now. Sure it may be in used cars and some race vehicles. Look at NASCAR, they still use carbs and that's pretty much gone from new cars in favor of EFI.
This isn't a battle of which one is better. And fun is a completely unmeasurable quantity, because someone who likes auto or paddles will think they are a shit ton more fun than manual as opposed to you guys who think opposite. The passion of what someone wants in a sports car is completely subjective, your passion for manual can and is equaled by people with a passion for an automatic version.

Again, how is your fun any greater than someone who thinks manual is work and has just as much fun in a auto? The fun factor is the EXACT SAME. Your fun is no greater than someone who has fun in an auto.
Let's take this to motorcycles. Let's say I believe sportbikes and dual sporting a shit ton more fun than cruisers. You learn how to ride a bike better, you are faster, more capable, and can just do more than a cruiser can. Cruisers ARE NOT AS MUCH FUN, DAMNIT... The "fun factor" is just not in them.

Trip, you been riding that BMW so long your actually thinking like a German! Not everything can be quantified and engineered for. Fun cannot be defined, so let those with insight into that speak for itself. Standards will exist because some "get it" just as cruisers, hack pthooey, will be enjoyed by folks that appreciate them. There is not right or wrong here.

Uh, then why are you guys using fun factor as a decisive factor? I said fun is fun, I didn't give it a specific value, I said it's the same for someone who enjoys cruising slowly in an auto sportscar as someone who enjoys the manual control of a manual sportscar. The fun is the same for both people.

Yes, he is still having fun. The same amount of fun you get from your driving. A lot of cruiser riders have never taken the opportunity to ride sportbikes and vice versa. Both are still having equal amounts of fun. Fun factor helps neither side.

Uh, then why are you guys using fun factor as a decisive factor?
Because ultimately, that is the factor that brings happiness, reward, and positive feedback. The joy with which you drive your car, for most people, their second largest investment, is paramount.
Watch the American Top Gear episode where they test 3 Lambos; the Top End Murcielago, with AWD, and computer everyfuckingthing, the Balboni (RWD, pure driver car), and the Superleggera. The most powerful model, the one designed by the Lambo test driver that's driven every single car made, and the super-lightweight.
Overall, the light car won (anyone with an understanding of basic physics probably guessed that right), the most powerful car was next fastest, and the RWD Balboni, which although it was a great drifter, was the slowest.
When they interviewed everyone, and asked them which one they wanted, they all said the Balboni.
That should tell you something.
There was also a UK Top Gear episode, where they compared a few cars to a rarified Alfa, which this time was among the most expensive, and yet the slowest...but again at the end, was the car that everyone called pure sex, appealed to their every sense, and they ultimately just plain wanted to own.

Yes, the three guys on top gear represent everyone... Good sample population of the average driver. There are a lot of people that aren't speed demons or want to go fast or do the things that you consider fun, but they still want to own a sportscar. I know that is extremely hard for you to understand, but these people do exist and it good size numbers. A lot of sportscars also fall into 'Luxury' category. So people want the appearance of luxury and may not ever use that power.
Is their fun any less than yours? FUCK NO.

Fun is fun, just because you haven't tried something, doesn't lessen the fun you have with your chosen hobby.

I hate the idea that my car/bike will correct my inputs to what is mechanically feasable. People who cant see the car in front of them should hit it in my opinion. And if they drift over the line the car should not alert them. Send em over a cliff I say. Thats evolution for you, survival of the fitest.
My bike shouldnt sense lean angle and wheel slip and dial back the throttle bodies. People shouldnt need a weather alert on their I phone, just look up asshole! If I am boneheaded enough to squeeze to hard on the brakes then I expect wheel lock up and a slide, not a pulsing numbness to bring me back to reality. Thats for losers!
My car should not tell me when to shift or how to shift. It shouldnt automatically match my revs on downshifting. My shower control should not save me from scalding hot water. It should allow me to have whatever I request in case I am torturing a suspect!
My radio volume shouldnt increase when I am running 85. If I want it louder I know where the fucking button is. Eyeglasses shouldnt tint themselves when you step out into the sun. Get used to bright lights you fucking basement dwelling cyber geeks.

 You just described almost everything I love about my BMW. And, almost everything I love about their new 6. But then, I look at it as the headlight always finds horizon so I get a wall of light so I can see more of the road - and ride a better ride. DCT means that the bike grabs the road better when it slips, it grabs - so I can ride a better ride. ABS means that I know I can have faith in the tires ability to stop the bike which means when there is a panic stop there is no reason to panic, and I can enjoy the ride.

BTW, disk brake assholes? WTF are they thinking. Drum is where it is at! I also love me some canvas walled tires. And another thing! Fucking seat belts?!?! If you can't stop yourself from going through the windshield at 75mph by holding onto the steering wheel, you're not a man!
Also, I don't have a door on my house. I just punch my way through a new spot in the wall everyday as a man should.

Chuck Norris lives!
 At that point, I'd be walking.
I wont even ride on a bike with someone, you think Im letting a computer get me around. No thanks! But I might use that parallel park function if it came on a car. Since thats pretty much the only driving skill I havent managed to master.
But wait, what if its like that movies and they are on rails and really arent cars at all? Would that count as "driving"?
So no planes or trains for you, awesome, stay in the stone ages.
I dont like automatic. Anything. I wish a for a giant solar flare or EMP bomb would render technology useless so people would take a long look at their selves and how they live their lives.
It is all part of the pussification of our world!!!
I don't remember, but are you an engineer? If you are it's called technology. It's what fucking keeps us employed. Go back to a fucking slide rule or start using your little pinkies to do calculations. Get off the fucking computer pussy.
EMP bomb is technology, fail...
You won't let computers drive you places, but you all have no problem with them keeping up with your money, running your damn nuclear weapons/plants, and all sorts of shit that is much much more devastating than a fucking car. Great thinking guys, way to stand up and stop automation.

various weak arguments
There's a difference between stuff that isn't fun (like calculating interest) and stuff that is (like driving). That's why it's OK to let a computer do the former, but not the latter.

Actually a lot of trains are completely automated. Person is just there to push a button if shit fucks up. Especially on things like subway systems and hi speed trains. Ain't shit a person can do on a high speeder if it fucks up.
Planes are go on auto a lot. You should know that. Fly by wire is also pretty big now. Person may be at the wheel, but they are at the mercy of the electrical systems.
If all the shit failed, you would have much bigger issues than transportation.

reasonable, but I am sure you wouldn't mind letting a computer do the transporting when it's not for fun though, would you?

Never been on a train, no desire to. Rode the MARTA once.
They still have people, even if its all animated andthey jsut push a button. So when the shit hits the fan, they've got someone trained to try and save us. If it doesnt work, there will still be someone there. Same for planes. Still a fail. When it all goes auto computer, then you have a leg to stand on for that one.
And I am aware of the bigger issues if everything fails. All part of the zombie plan my friend. Cars arent even part of the equation as sooner or later there would be no fuel. Unless I hooked up with someone who could rig a solar vehicle but thats a different story. (And guess what, they'd still be operated by a person.) Still trying to decide where we want to put the concrete bunker for supplies and short term survival tho.

New jets are essentially one big computer. They may someone putting their hands on a stalk, but they are still relying on one big computer to actually control the planes.
If a human makes you more confident that the computer won't fuck up, you will always have YOU in the automated car to turn it to manual control and stop it from fucking up. I doubt they will get rid of that safety feature.
Personally I can't wait for the day I can wake up and get in my automated car and skip that whole commute bullshit.

Havent flown in years, but I repeat, theres still someone there that knows what the hell their doing and yes that does make me feel better.
I hadnt thought about that as far as the cars go, meaning the manual feature, but yeah that would be necessary and Id probably do the driving myself, depending on how things were (on rail systems or something would make cars pretty much completely obsolete, but if there were still actual roads, Id be driving.)
I can see the pros of having a car do everything, you wouldnt have to worry about idiots on the road in their cars trying to kill you, and you could get in plenty of sleep on road trips, but it would suck the fun out of it for those of us who like to drive just to drive and see what we can make our cars do. Goes back to the fun factor I guess. Whats fun to one isnt to another. I'll give you that.

I know some aircraft types with some airlines are required to let the plane land itself once in a while to keep the auto-land system certified. I once had a pilot announce before landing that the plane was going to do all the work. I still have no idea why he didn't wait till we were on the ground to say something.

I love how all here say there wouldn't own an automatic...but are we to assume that ALL manuals shift like Honda manuals? Try driving an Isuzu N-series truck with a manual....you will be wishing for the automatic in 2 miles..unless you like taking 3 seconds per shift and feathering the accelerator to get it to go into gear because the shift cable is 10 feet long.
Manuals are nice if they shift nice and have an easy clutch. Notchy shifting with a race clutch doesn't make it "fun".

Not trying to scare anyone. Its just sex on wheels to me.
Single axle would save money on tires and so on but I'm not sure. If I upgraded my license and got in the fire department I could look at trying to get some work hauling construction equipment with it. Then my toy could earn its keep. If that was the case I would keep the dual axles. Its a long way off so its not important now.
I could also put a dump body on it and work it that way and still use it to haul a boat.
