Water is always a good choice to rehydrate after working out, but researchers suggest beer is better

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Forget water or Gatorade. The drink of choice to rehydrate after a workout is beer.

Researchers at Granada University in Spain found beer can help retain liquid better than water alone.

The results were published in the British newspaper The Telegraph. The study involved a group of students. They were asked to work out until their body temperature reached 104 degrees.

Researchers then gave beer to half of the students and water to the other half.

They said the bubbles in the beer help quench thirst while the carbohydrates help make up for burned calories.

A cardiologist with the Real Madrid football team told the paper he has long recommended beer to professional sportsmen after exhausting activities.

Awesome! I should be joining a gym tomorrow. They have a juicebar, a kitchen and a beer on tap.

Every cyclist here around town who writes reviews for roads or trails to bike on, usually has a beer review that follows the actual routes'. Also I swear I think some of the bike shops sell microbrews as well.

There is a HUGE following between pedal and beer.

My team used to booze out of the back of our goalies truck after evening hockey games. I swear I got buzzed so much faster after a game. Higher heart rate maybe?

I love the comparison...water to beer.

How about giving that same person creatine, grape juice and whey protein then compare against alcohol.

Besides, alcohol acts as a diuretic.

I'm the only person with a shaker cup after our rides... I like a beer and allow myself more than I would normally, but 10+mi MTB followed by a day of MX practice that lasts 5 or so hours, the calories and diuretic effect are hardly noticed in an EXTREMELY caloric-used weekend.
