Fuck that. I don't even like standing on the roof of my house... or anything above the third step from the top rung on any ladder for that matter... Fuck that.

I wonder what has a higher percentage of injury/death....mountain climbing or riding a motorcycle on public roads?

Nope, 100% real. That guy climbed up there with a mattress and box springs, slept the night, and made it to the top the next morning.

Dunno what the accident rate is, but I can guarantee that sleeping on a portaledge is one of the least risky parts of big wall climbing.
I wish I could remember where I read it, but some crazy dudes in the 70s or 80s used to make it a matter of pride to hang their ledge from the sketchiest anchor possible. Of course, their own harness was roped into a bombproof anchor (and the ledge had a backup with a bunch of slack), but apparently it was still quite a wakeup call if the main ledge anchor let go in the middle of the night. :tremble:

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Shocked at the number of females in the pictures too; that may be worth as many hot points as when they throw on a set of leathers and kick ass on the track.
I'd try it if I didn't have to do the climbing part.

It's not the risk of death... it's my pathological fear of heights. Put me on a ladder I start to get antsy. Rappel tower (at least the last time I tried to climb one, post-bad-experience-falling-whilst-rappelling) = hyperventilation. I'd probably just have a heart attack on the side of a mountain.

In an odd psychological twist, I actually love flying. Love roller-coasters too (except for the elevator-drop style rides). Only one time did flying bother me - flying into San Diego, the pilot did a hard bank over the city, and being close enough to be able to make out buildings and feeling like I could fall through the window (even though, logically, that wasn't going to happen) made me nervous.

I'm exactly the same way... except the hyperventilation part... I can usually control myself for the most part... skidmarks not withstanding.

Is it any dumber than riding a motorcycle? There are big wall climbers all over the world, thousands of them, and per capita, there are far less deaths than on motorcycles. I know this because a rock climbing article I once read on climbing safety, actually mentioned just that, specificly using MC's as an example.
I have a harness, climbing shoes (YES! They do make em in a 15!), chalk bag and belays and caribiners, and once in a while I go out to the 'local' (about 40 minutes away) wall (man made, not an actual rock wall), and its one of the hardest things to do, just on an advanced practice wall, that I have ever tried. And thats while top roped, not carrying and installing safety gear.
I have a ton of respect for the people who do this stuff, it takes a ton of endurance and strength, as well as mental fortitude.

I was chuckling to myself exactly how many of us fearless motorcyclists had the same immediate reaction to this:
FUCK THAT!
Different things scare different folks, I guess. I guess being a motorcyclist means you're not afraid to fall...3 feet...but beyond that, YMMV.

A lot of them use tubes they put over their cocks and just slip down the bottom of their pant leg. Then they clean it out with a shot of water (or im sure some dont clean it at all), coil it back up, and your on your way. I imagione its much more difficult for women, but thats what they get for being female..
